Videos like this and on the source filmmaker site only make me want this software even more (This official public release not the broken outdated version from the 2007 TF2 Beta). It looks so awesome from what I can see so far. I like how Valve is starting with TF2 but will branch out to other games over time. Can't wait to get a beta key or it's official release depending on which comes first (It will likely be the latter for me).

at 5:15 you said we could possibly render the scene unusable if we mess around too much (that's gonna be a problem for me...) will the SFM files have a human-readable interface so that we can fix it using a text editor like the VMF file structure? it depends on how they built it. the source engine now is native multi-platform, but we have no clue what modifications they have made to the core engine for this. it may technically run on a mac, but many things may (will) be buggy from release, due to differences in graphics processing. I assume this is what the beta is for. as most of valve's computers are exactly the same, they only try it with one set of hardware. so the beta lets them test a wide variety of hardware to eliminate bugs

it is editable by the public, yes, but they do get a final say on it, and they can work on it internally if they choose, and since SFM has never been officially released, the SFM wiki is mostly valve work (there's a couple things that the beta leak users have contributed, but a lot of it is outdated by now)

I'm a lowly zoid working this 3D animation in Photoshop CS4. As you guys know the first successes with lighting are a real kick...and I'm still at that place. Here's my problem. I'm animated an easily rendered car through a 40's night photo. I'm not using any infinite or point lights. They always (99% of the time) lock with the car, and travel with it. How do I keep my lights stationary to allow my car to go through their beams? They represent neon signs, etc, it passes by...
