Defiantly the kissing. I know it's weird for people in the US. But kissing your female friends or relatives on the cheek really is no big deal.

Wow! We African Americans used to do that when I was a kid in the 70’s. The more wealth we got the less we do this. And we adopting more of the white American culture. I hate it. That’s why I loved my trip to Mexico so much. I think I’m going to retire there! Our cultures and natural tendencies are the same. We love music, celebrating, talking loud and passionately, laughing joking, dancing and we believe in “Live and Let Live!” And we hate all the freaking rules and control in America!

I really like what we call "sobremesa" which is the time after you finish your meal and you just stay there talking, drinking coffee or whatever just resting. Which is related to what you said about restaurants not pushing you out. I think that as a Mexican if I ever felt they were pushing me out or promptly giving me the check and the waiter literally next to me waiting I would either tell him to come back later or just stop going to that place. We Mexicans love food and the whole process of eating. 👌. Cool videos!! Keep it up! I'm glad you like this beautiful country. Btw I really like the US too. Peace!
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
Oh cool, thanks for sharing that word. Not sure we've ever heard that before! Do you think if a server was rushing you to leave multiple times, would that warrant lowering the tip? We agree though, any place here that sorta gave that vibe, we probably wouldn't go back either.
@numenoriany2k6 жыл бұрын
Tangerine Travels lol glad you like the word hehehe and yeah at least with me I usually leave 10% of tip (be careful to exclude tax on big tips) but if the service really sucks I could leave less, but at the same time if the food is good and the service is good I'm willing to leave 15 or 20% maybe even more in exceptional cases. But yeah it would influence alot on the tip and on me coming back or even recommending the place. Cheers!👌

I have been in Mexico for a few years now. Something I adore about the culture here is the family time. On weekends full families go swimming at th beach together. Birthdays are important. Parties are done with love and they aren’t afraid to spend money for a birthday. Family is really important here. I love that.

I like that they still believe in family. In the usa so many families only get together for the holidays if that. In mexico it's a pretty common thing to have dinner together or even stay a weekend together
@momothinks92926 жыл бұрын
This is my personal opinion. But one of the reasons Mexicans seem to work to live rather than live to work-as it is generally the case in the United States- is because a great part of modern Mexican society was essentially based and highly influenced by the customs of Spain and France (our once conquerors). And, in addition to that, you have the roots of a humble native society that is generally open minded and welcoming and respectful. Basically, we have taken to heart Benito Juarez’s proverbial quote that “respect of others’ lives ( no matter what that might be) is the key to peace.” Or in Spanish: El derecho al respeto ajeno, es la Paz . 100% of Mexicans learn that phrase the moment they become literate and most (unfortunately not all) tend to live by it. This is why we tolerate each other when we know you are just trying to get along, no matter how annoying that maybe. Great video.
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
What an absolutely beautiful phrase to live by. And although maybe not everyone does, it seems like enough people take that to heart and society is better off because of it. And it might not mean rainbows, sunshine, and not being annoyed with people...but it’s a whole lot happier way to live! 😍 This was a great share, thanks Momo!
@momothinks92926 жыл бұрын
I’m glad you think so. But I totally reversed the words on the famous quote. Oops, bad Mexican here. It should be: El RESPETO al DERECHO ajeno, es la Paz....I live by it, just don’t get to write it that often. My brain suffered massive failure. But it’s correct now.. Cheers!

You are so on point with the Spanish / French Thing. I went to Ireland last year and i loved it but the relationship with food sucks!! they eat very unseasoned and don't take the time, it's a very rushed thing. i thought i was crazy, but i was at my hostel for 2 weeks with a spanish girl, and she had been there for a year, she told me the same thing, after that, we got used to take our time to cook (she even had her own olive oil and serrano ham from spain) and we would sit and enjoy our food while talking. A lot of people would comment on how great the kitchen smelled or how nice our plates looked ( i was cooking literally just steamed veggies and chicken, but with spices and sauces) My friend is married to an Italian guy and he has the same mentality, he needs to find time to read, and to unwind and to really enjoy those moments. The industry here in mexico is more "american like" you live to work, he literally quit his job at a big corporation and got a small gig as a teacher because he just couldt keep up with the lifestyle, he hated it.
@mariaarroyos97236 жыл бұрын
Ay Mono just because a few pirates came to Mexico, doesn't mean we adopted their way of living. Actually Mexicans resemble more Italians in their culture and they didn't invade our country. Tangerine Travels this is an example of Mexicans not appreciating their culture which is changing by seeing people like you guys appreciating our country :)

@@FreddieHg37 Wow! I am happy that you recognize the African and Arabic influences. I am both and when I went to Mexico, I could see the same behavior. Que espantoso comentario. No voy a escribir en inglés. Hay mucha gente en México que no tiene los recursos ni el tiempo de comer sanamente. Astrid Go H.: Why so upset? Irony is because processed food is expensive poor people have to eat healthier options. And I find Your second sentence somewhat puzzling. If You say "a lot of people don't have the resources (I'm assuming You mean money)" What are their options? Eating greasy food from a stall? As a matter of fact, that's the most expensive way to eat ( with 2 pounds of meat You can make 50 tacos). Nice try to be a SJW.

Only thing that I didn't like was the half pretended call of U.S. citizens rats? Not that I think it was intended but through lack of analysis on what you are writing it was actually implying that, and it is good to analyze what we write in order to be more effective when expressing our selves, and to reach to someone else in the intended way what do you think about that? 😊 have a good night 🌃 and better day tomorrow.
@guillermoochoa73456 жыл бұрын
fabian flores “rat race” is a saying/frase that means when people care about money and having more money above all else so its like they’re in race against each other to have more money and show off how much more money they have. This in no way is calling any US citizen or anybody for that matter a Rat!! I’m a U.S citizen by the way.. born an raised in the USA and am proud of that too.. But this in no way means I’m a sheep and don’t see what the USA has become! I’ve seen the many changes that have taken place in the USA over the years. If you or anyone else( not saying you are, reason I used the “if”) is into having the “latest and greatest “ where money is more important than anything else that’s cool who am I to say your wrong, if that makes you happy.. But All I can say is get your shit straight before you call someone out and saying they called someone/some group of people rats... sayings don’t literally mean what they say!! Take that for lack of “analysis”!! 😂 have great day 👍✌️

I would say that americans are more individual, I dont see families doing stuff together as often as in Mexico, this may be my assumption but teens tend to leave their houses as soon as they're 18 while in mexico people tend to live with parents sometimes even if they get married or live close by so they can check on the parents, and I have never heard of any assylum (spell?) in my city because everybody takes care of their people
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we agree with that! In the US, it has definitely become more focused on the "self" than others, family, community, etc. It's a major flaw in our opinion. In Mexico, you're right... it does seem much more common to live with family and spend quality time together.

@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ren! It really does, right? Like be careful, if you step just slightly outside the imaginary line, you're breaking laws/rules/regulations. Ugh, who needs that. And absolutely... we didn't elaborate on that more, but people in the US are just constantly looking for the next thing to buy...car, clothes, appliances, etc. instead of seeking memories and quality time. We really love that it's not like that in Mexico. Obviously getting something for yourself from time to time is nice, but it shouldn't be what life revolves around.

As a (literally) starving college student I found a purse with about $200 in it at a restaurant where I was waitressing. Management tried to get me to give it to them, but instead I put it in my employee locker and went around looking for the woman who could describe the bag & its contents. Ended up belonging to one of the other cocktail waitresses and the money was all of her earnings for the day! I was living out of my car during that time & I truly needed that money, but the complete shock and happiness on the face of the girl who I returned it to has been more rewarding to me over the years than that small amount of money ever would have been. If it had been $10K & I knew it was the pocket change of a multi-millionaire, I would have kept it in a HEARTBEAT :) Sorry, not sorry.

Unfortunately in the US I only see young complete people standing with a sign 🙄...to me that is pure laziness. Okay that’s it I’ve made up my mind! I’m moving to Mexico! Heartwarming! ❤ You're so right... standing there with a sign is just lazy. And that's how _almost_ all homeless/bums are in the US. Just looking for a handout. What an exciting decision! So, the first year of our marriage he kept telling me that, no you can't do that, because that is illegal! And again, and again, and again! One time I was talking about serenading our mothers on May 10, and he said that again and I told him. "Do you know what I think is illegal in the US? BEING HAPPY is illegal in the US!" Hahahaha! Of course he doesn't understand that, or does not appreciate it. Until lately (after almost 14 years of marriage) he is starting to feel tired of all of the foolishness around those lines in the US. I am hoping we can move to Mexico one day because I really miss the noise, the people, the freshness of the food, how open the spaces and people are... I have had the same experience while traveling Mexico. They don't seem as worried about you trying to harm them. They seem to be a lot more comfortable deescalating situations by talking rather than by force.

You guys should visit zapotlanejo its located about an hour away from Guadalajara. You can find all kinds of cloths and shoes and other stuff all over the place. The whole city is kind of like a giant shopping mall. Cheap and very affordable.

So you found the 2000 pesos I accidentaly dropped the other day... 😉. I think, if you find money and the owner is nowhere to be found, you can just keep it for yourself. Jordan sure made the day of those employees! You forgot to mention that in Mexico there are "tienditas" and convenience stores at every corner, so if you feel like having a snack, all you have to do is walk one block in any direction, no transport needed!
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
HA! What a crazy coincidence you frequent Chai too. 😋 I'd like to think that the person who lost all that dinero went back to find it, but most likely those employees are having a great time this weekend haha. Ah yes, very true. Though there seem to be a whole lot less here in GDL than some other cities. Do you agree?
@SillyLion6 жыл бұрын
I have the habit of accidentaly dropping money all over the city 😋. I disagree, tienditas are everywhere in GDL! There aren't that many in your area? that's strange. 🤔
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
Silly lions must not have very deep pockets. Drop a 5c coin for me next time? lol I still haven’t found one of those 😆 It doesn’t seem like it, or maybe we don’t know where to look? The closest convenience store is about a 10 minute walk to OXXO.
@SillyLion6 жыл бұрын
But you have seen the smaller, tiny convenience-type stores called tienditas right? Hmm... 🤔

Great vid...🌟 O yes to hot sauce..muy bien🔥..Street food everywhere I have been in MX is so terrific. You are so correct about not being scooted out of a restaurant. Have had to ask for bill several times from time to time since I was rushing to beach or my ADO for a bus day trip..😎 MX seem way more loving. Had great interaction with a 19yo busboy trying to learn English. He, gf, plus female manager type roomy and two other friends invited me to go with them to a Cenote the next day. After I bought breakfast we piled into roomies car and drove an hour. Best day ever. Couple days later walked by place he worked to thank him and give him a little gift. Sees me from other side of restaurant as he is carrying large tray of food. Balancing try on one hand and without missing a step he comes up, hugs me and moves on to deliver the plates. Whole restaurant was in amazement as was I . Laughing my butt off I said trabajo trabajo. 💖

The "sobremesa" which comes from having a family and friends oriented culture. I love that about México. OH! And their openness to hear other people's stories and count them as new friends, not just an interesting stranger... If I think on something else I will definitely come back to comment

Keep up with the videos, they're so good! Something I really want to know, (I don't want to look like a pessimist person, it's just plain curiosity) after all this time Mexico has been so great and beautiful to you guys but I was wondering if you've experienced some bitter or bad moments in our country, (I know about the situation that happened recently in Guadalajara) but i'm talking about things like corruption, bad cops, discrimination... Things that really make you sad or angry about why such things happen and exist in Mexico.

A very quick way to tell how long tourists/ visitors have been in Mexico is if they still don't clue in that what they call "limes" are actually green lemons ("limones"). Limes ( "limas") are greenish on the inside.

I'm in KetchUp mode on your videos. I loved this one! And you nailed all the important aspects of how different life here in Mexico is compared to the U.S. What I would add, as an old fart, is that my experience, as an old fart, LOL, is the acceptance of my age group by the younger folks. I mentioned this in a previous comment on another video. This is the one thing that just floored me about living here (Ensenada). Most of my Mexican friends are half or more younger than I am, and they treat me just like one of them. In other words, age doesn't matter, and your character and desire to assimilate as a foreigner is truly appreciated. Kudos to you to both. I started to watch your videos last year when you just got started, and I wasn't impressed. But you both have morphed into incredible knowledge sharing professionals on a very interesting topic. And you are quite entertaining as well. I'm glued to your channel. Thank you profusely for what you are doing... Saludos de Ensenada...p.s. I just became one of your Patreon members, aka David S Moore

Come to Monterrey, and of you have chance, stop by Santiago. Monterrey is a city, so you can experience what is like to live here. It's not like really nice because pollution and traffic, but still and experience, and there's tons of stuff to do. Santiago is a small town beside it and it's the complete opposite. There is eco-tourism and it's what we call "pueblo mágico" which makes it sort of a heritage-protected town.

Best custom in Mexico: I don't know if someone already mentioned this but I truly love how Mexicans will tell you "bien provecho" when you are eating, or "enjoy your meal". Total strangers will say it. I just think that is the best custom ever. I apologize if I am joining this discussion late as I just recently found you. I agree with almost everything you shared in this video which, by the way, is a great topic. I will disagree with your comments about the Mexican police and Mexican drivers but everything is based on personal experiences so I won't question your accuracy here. BTW the police where I live in the U.S. are pretty cool. Keep up the great work you two. Mexico is awesome!

Mexican cop meeting someone: I have a gun, this guy isn't a threat, lets help him and de-escalate. US cop meeting someone: I have a gun, this punk doesn't, lets shove him around and make sure he knows who's in charge. It was very weird when I went to Mexico City to see friendly police. Where I was they were armed to the teeth, even saw some behind turret mounted machine guns. But they would stand there and chat with you like they were your cousin and it was a family gathering.

A quality restaurant in Mexico is in general better than in the US . . Besides you can have a long relax time with no rush, the plates are generous in size, in the US you get small plates . . It feels like scarceity . . I recall Hawaii 5-0 Restaurant in Monterrey NL . . what times my Lord when I was a young Software Engineer and got to travel with my office mates to several cities and dine at the best places . . there´s so many good eateries in Mexico

Jordan and Mangoes! hahaha. I enjoy the fact they deal with fresh fruits. It is something I know I will enjoy when I visit there too. That is so true. I haven't noticed anyone staying aloof on the street begging for money. That is so commendable. I love people who really work hard. I don't like sitting down in a restaurant hahahaha but I can when we are two and it is good to know you can sit as long as you want. Same with here. People order for water and just sit down for hours having a mini meeting and all. super cool. You always have a good heart. I hope the employee will do something good with it by reporting it to the management. You two are just awesome. Good one guys. I noticed they are also kind in Mexico. Most people you come across, always and willingly want to help. That is really commendable. Good job guys. It always get better with you guys.

Oh yes, tropical fruits are a real treat. :) What are the common ones in Nigeria? We love hard workers too! Both of us agree that we'd much rather help someone out who needs money if they are actually working for it, rather than someone who is just begging. Sometimes, we'll even give money whether we buy the person's product or not because they're just working their tail off! Jordan did the right thing with that cash. Hope the employees do their best to find the rightful owner.

We have more of Oranges, Watermelons, Carrots (when in season). They are very common on the street, but when you visit the mall, you get all kinds of fruits; seedless grapes, lemons, limes, watermelon, strawberries, carrots and the likes. Mangoes are very common right now and i have eaten myself to stupor hahahahaha. Yes, i would rather give money to someone making efforts, to encourage them, rather than someone who would be expecting without doing anything. Situations determines what i do most times.
