That little tidbit about the helmets glowing when you use the Erudition gesture actually does have a purpose in-game. There's a specific puzzle that requires you to use the helmet and the gesture to "light the way" and open a door.

@@lynackhilou4865 In Liurnia, just east of the Black Knife Catacombs. If you look at it on your map, there’s a building structure RIGHT next to it on the area above. If you have the Frenzied Flame Village Outskirts grace, then it’s pretty easy to get to. It’s called the Converted Fringe Tower. Hope this helps a little!

@@lynackhilou4865 Converted Tower has a memory stone but you can bypass the erudition gesture puzzle by just climbing the outer walls to get to the memory stone. Converted Fringe Tower, on the other hand, requires the erudition gesture since there's no bypass for the puzzle and you get the cannon of haima and the gavel of haima spells for the trouble.

If you roll in scarlet rot puddles your clothes will get soaked and the rot meter will continue to rise even on dry ground. Using the craftable soap item allows to cleanse your clothes (also much cheaper than using the boluses).

Hey about the getting souls with holy damage think that may just be an overkill bonus. in dark souls if you kill an enemy with an attack that does 150% of their health you will get extra runes

That might be true,i was testing at the Vulgar Militias, my main weapon deals around 3000 if i stealth kill them and they drop something like 2600 runes, i did the same with a weaker weapon that dealt like 1000 damage and i gain more or less 2100

Fun one for those of you who missed From's obtuse hints: If you find yourself facing the boss of the Volcano Manor with melee (without the unique weapon given to you within its arena) you'll be constantly flinched and knocked down because there is a constant area of magma around it. The makes the fight a nightmare. The solution to the problem is shown to you earlier in the level of you have progressed a certain quest enough. If you have progressed Iron Fist Alexander enough he will appear chilling in a lava lake around the manor. He will not be flinching, but you will be while talking to him. That's the hint. If you use the iron skin perfume during the area boss fight you too will no longer flinch or fall from the lava around it. As a bonus, most of the boss's attacks are ranged. This leaves you free to smash it up close with whatever weapon you want without really getting hit.Thanks Alexander.

Fun fact and probably an oversight: While Revenants and Royal Revenants take damage from any mass healing spells, they DO NOT take damage from Warming Stones, those little consumables that when dropped on the ground emit a small AOE that heals you over time.

Since I already knew all of these, let me hit you with a contribution of some really obscure facts! 1. The Omen Armor Set has a hidden bonus that boost the Omen Bairn and Regal Omen Bairn items, as well as the Unique Skill Shriek of Milos, which the Dung Eater wields. The savage combo attacks get boosted further and hit a lot harder. (The Roar Medallion also boosts the skill) 2. The Passive Skills of certain staves and seals that boost specific spell types aren't exclusive to the spells cast with them. You can hold them in your offhand with a stronger catalyst in your main hand and still get the bonus damage. This applies to the casting speed bonus of Azur's staff as well. 3. Many enemies have different resistances to status effects, and some have particular weaknesses as well. The Godskin Nobles, in particular, are extremely susceptible to sleep, and will doze off with a single sleep pot. While many enemies react to sleep by being briefly stunned, the nobles straight up tip over and become open for a riposte. 4. On the topic of the Godskin, the Godskin Noble chestpiece specifically boosts the Noble Presence incantation. By quite a bit, at that. It's a bit of an unpopular incantation due to its slowness, but it is there nonetheless. 5. When fighting Radahn, summon signs appear beneath giant spirit warbanners. There are a total of 10 warbanners, with a specific loadout of characters each. You can only use each sign once. Castellan Jerren is limited to phase 2 and is good backfill for when you've exhausted the others. 6. To add to the revenants being damaged by heals, using the spells Blessing's Boon and Blessing of the Erdtree, which gradually heal you and your allies, will apply a damage over time effect on them. 7. Since ripostes are performed with a single weapon, builds that rely on powerstancing weapons with a high damage output can often get more damage by spamming L1 at a downed enemy rather than going for the critical. 8. Runebears are very dangerous enemies, and fortunately there is a way to dispatch of some of them quite quickly. For the ones you find inside of caves, if you mash out of their grab attack, they will end up out of bounds and fall to their death. This can be done intentionally or accidentally. 9. Some enemies are completely deaf. The Gargoyles and Black Blade Kindred will never aggro you if you are outside of their line of sight, no matter how much noise you make. This is why they're normally placed guarding specific things, with their backs to walls. 10. For spells with odd requirements for their type, such as Law of Regression being an Intelligence based incantation, you can cast them with any seal, even if you don't meet the requirements. This reduces the damage of attacking spells, but buffs remain unaffected. That's all off the top of my head, hope this helps! I'm always happy to contribute, and I hope that everyone managed to learn a little!

Easier tip on the dungeon pillars: Mohg’s or Margits shackle will raise/lower them from a pretty great distance. So you can effectively active them from cover very far from any danger.

It works on all of the glintstone crowns that have crystals visible on top I think; so the ones already mentioned and also Olivinus and Karolos Glintstone Crown, but not the Haima Glintstone Crown (part of the Battlemage set) for example because that has a hood obscuring the top.

@@primeEmu16 Yeah, there's a broken wall along the back side you can climb up to jump into the balcony. If you use the gesture you instead get a glowing white ladder spawned that you can use to reach the same spot.

This one probably too obvious but I find it strange how beast repellent torch is never mentioned - it pacifies all "mammal" type enemies (tyranodogs, wolves, rats, doesn't work on bats tho... weird...) and even works on "spirit" versions of them. This can make good portion of exploration easier, and getting it is only a matter of 1200 runes and beelining your way to the merchant on the hill near Caelid Tower (available right from the start) and going there does not unintentionally progress any NPC quests.

If you have consumables as a selectable item and you use your mimic tear, the mimic can use those items without actually using any of them up from your inventory. This can be handy with the perfume that gives you armor or warming stones Also warming stones can stack in the healing recovery speed

The previous souls games had a mechanic where killing an enemy with enough excess damage in a single hit (for example, if the enemy has 1200 health and you do 1900 in one hit) would give you increased souls/runes. I believe that is also what is happening with the holy damage soul farming. Due to the weapon art dealing significant damage in one hit, it gives the increased modifier. I have now gotten to Journey 4, and due to the increased base health of the enemies I now no longer get the added bonus even when killing them with holy damage. I may be wrong obviously, but thought I would share in case anyone is doing more in depth testing!

You get more runes off enemies if you defeat them in one attack that does more damage then their health bar. You get around 20% more, and I think the attack has to do about 1.5x their health.

Sentrys torch reveals cloaked assassins, that cave has a cloaked assassins in there as a hidden boss. It's likely the function responsible for invisibility is the same one used on the assassins model texture so you're switching it on and off. Off for the assassin, on for the walls. But probably only works with an assassin nearby

You can also use Margit's shackles to operate the flame or ice pillars. Much easier than using bows. And you don't have to be close!I trapped a watchdog enemy between two pillars to kill it easily. You can also use them to destroy the chariots in auriza hero grave without actually going through the trouble to actually find the pillar to send the last chariot to destroy the first two. And once destroyed the chariots don't come back👍.

Sentry’s Torch literally has a passive ability built in that is meant to reveal anything hidden (assassins, illusory walls, etc.) it’s in the description.

It doesn't usually reveal illusory walls, just the assassins. Chances are they played around with having it revealed illusory walls but decided it would be too easy to find secrets with it. But there as a glitch with the removal which is why it only works in Sage's cave and instead of having an effect that shows walls dissapearing when you get close it just automatically removes all hidden walls there even if you're not directly holding it.

The getting more runes from holy damage works the same as it does for killing skeletons and not letting them respawn. Most sources of holy damage just kill skeletons like normal, even the coded sword which does pure holy damage doesn’t work but pure holy projectiles seems to work fine.

The thing about the holy weapons not killing skeletons seems like an oversight to me. If not, then it's been a weird choice by Fromsoft. The condition for no-revive killing of skelies is that your weapon needs to have a *'visible'* holy element at the time of attacking; i.e. holy projectiles or glowing from (imbued by) holy buff. That's why a pure holy weapon won't do the job while using 'sacred order' ash of war will. This wasn't the case in previous Souls game. It's weird they decide to do it this way.

The shackles do some sort of AOE across the entire zone or room that does the type damage / interaction needed for... interact-able objects like hidden walls and the mentioned fire pillars in the video, I believe the jars to take out the Chariots, etc. They are low-key the actual best items in the game.

7:00 So I did a bit of testing and so far it seems like only the Sacred Blade Ash of War , and the Golden Order Greatsword perma kill skeletons. For Sacred Blade it only works with the projectile and when the buff is active. I tried a couple other things - Coded Sword, Halo Scythe, Holy Grease, Sacred Relic Sword, Marika's Hammer, a regular weapon with Sacred Affinity and none of them seemed to have this effect. There might be other things that work, but it seems specific to certain weapons/ashes of war.

Hey Arekkz I think I should clarify this 3:07 , as Souls vets here said, it's because of the damage that kills the enemies that makes more extra runes. I tested this myself, if silver Albinauric dies by Sacred Relic Sword +10 holy damage, it will drop more runes than the red Albinauric, because it has less health. If you want the maximum runes from silver and red Albinauric, here's what I do : 1. My character is at 70 attribute points from Strength to Arcane. 2. My Talismans are Radagon's Soreseal, Ritual Sword Talisman, Sacred Scorpion Charm & Gold Scarab. 3. Wondrous Physick Holy-Shrouding Cracked Tear is a must. Silver and red Albinauric will have the same amount of rune drop and I'm on NG+ 3.

One of my favorite spells in the game is Dragonbolt Blessing. I never see people use it but in pvp or an area in the game with fast striking enemies it is glorious because the enemies weapon bounces off of you and it interrupts chain attacks from light attacks or one handed heavy attacks. Basically anyone dual wielding. You take damage from the initial hit but they can’t combo you allowing you to get away or counter attack. Very useful ability.

Here are a few tips that I think will help. 1. As most of you know the Braid set adds damage to your dodge rolls but, if you roll into the annoying Cartwheel attack of the Red Albinaurics it will cancel their attack animation and save you from being killed. 2. Another annoying attack is Malenia's Waterfowl Dance but did you know that you can throw a Freezing Pot at her during the attack to immediately stop her from using it! 3. Certain spells and Incantations can actually "combo" together, reducing the casting time of the second or third spell/Incantation respectively. For instance if you cast Beastal Sling and immediately switch to Honed Bolt you can combo them together and bypass the long start up of Honed Bolt!

I wanna say there's a "stealth attack" bonus involved with the Rune amount discrepancy. When testing damage (target is the blood zombies at Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance) I found I did the most damage when they are just wandering. But after I hit them with an incantation and they survived, I did slightly less damage on a second cast of the same incantation. I speculate if they survived the first attack, they aggro'd to me (even though they have no direct attacks) since I can't teleport when they do and I am no longer in stealth. But when they are just shambling and ignoring you, you are technically in stealth. How this relates to the "Faith gives more runes" is because those frog men don't aggro to you until you hit them. So when you use the WA that fires a faith projectile you one shot them while technically in stealth since they aren't aggro'd on you. I would like to see this tested by someone with credibility as it's just speculation on my part.

You're getting more runes per kill not because of holy damage but because of an old mechanic from Dark Souls 1 called Overkill Bonus. This triggers when you kill an enemy by doing 150% of their total HP in one shot. As to why it happens "randomly", it's because sometimes you stealth surprise attack the Frogmen, doing the 150% one shot via the holy projectile, sometimes you get too close and aren't in stealth anymore (even if they don't attack, they're aware of you) and w/o the stealth bonus the projectile doesn't do the 150% one shot.

Hold B to slide down a ladder. Tap B to jump off a ladder. Mounting and, maybe more importantly dismounting, your horse gives s. I start a lot of fights by dismounting into a jump attack, it's a very safe way to get in close

Margit’s Shackle. Use it once at the beginning of a cave or catacomb and it will open all of the illusionary walls and lower the pillars. That can be a problem in the sense that you won’t really know if it is a wall or not if it’s the first time you’ve been in a cave. Try it out, it’s awesome.

The Sentry´s torch were invented after the Night of the black Blades happend, to make the Assassin´s visible who weren´t when they sneak into the Capital to kill Godwyn. So that something like this do not happen again. Also if you want to entrance the other ring of the capital, there are those two Threesentinels guarding this place. One of them has this torch equipt to avoid Assasins from sneaking into the city again.

For the fire pillars, just use Margits shackle. It effects hidden walls and pillar traps. In a huge area.

The sentrys torch description states its used to reveal black knife assasins to prevent a night of the black knives from repeating. The sages cave contains multiple black knife assassin items, including the concealing veil which is used to hide their presence. Would explain why the torch works for this cave only as its so deeply tied to the black knife assasins.

This is from my testing before patch 1.04 so I'm not sure how accurate this still is. Not all holy weapons can disintegrate skeletons. From what I can tell holy weapons that can buff themselves can do this but the only 3 that have this ability without using an ash of war are the Twinned blade, Holy Order Great sword, and Golden Epitaph. Just because a weapon has holy damage (eg Malikeths Black Blade) does not mean it is capable of disintegration

Those are the only 3 that naturally have that power, because they belong to Those Who Hunt Death. You can get the same power by equipping Sacred Blade on any weapon, USING the ash of war, and then hitting with the weapon while it has the buff. Also because it's an Ash of War of Those Who Hunt Death. It's lore tied. Edit: forgot to mention, you don't even need to change the weapon to holy when using Sacred Blade. As long as you used the Ash of War, the weapon now instantly kills skeletons.

Fire pillars: spells work too. Projectiles. 👍 Short long jump: u can also use an empty item and jump. Worked for older souls games also.

You can use Margit's shackle, or Morgott's, to reveal hidden walls or trigger those pillars spewing fire or frost. Range is surprisingly long and it works around corners as well.

The bloodhound fang L2 attack also gives the 2453 runes as well. Not sure if it requires a 1-hit kill or not since I can't test a 2nd swing. I can assure it works 100% of the time

3:05 They drop more runes because of a mechanic called "overkill". If you kill an enemy in one hit doing 150% total hp dmg, they will drop 20% more runes

The skeleton one is super SUPER old news. That's been a thing in all the Dark Souls games and Demons Souls. The only one I didn't know was the impaling thrust one at the end.

Pro Hidden Tips that are Unknown : 1- The Soap you Craft in the Crafting Items section , its an Item where you use to Cleanse Rot or Poison when you roll onto the Swamps that can keep you Rotted/Poisoned for the Limited Duration.... Using a Soap will Clean your Character from being infected by those Status Effects. ( Using a Soap will also Clean your character's Gear if you were Bloody dirty from killing enemies or after a Combat... This is a very Hidden mechanic but it does work lol. ) 2- Just like in Sekiro , every Mechanic is applied in Elden Ring aswell. ( You could Jump evade any form of Swipes or Slashes that could go under your Jumping Range , so simply avoid being Hit.... This applies to any Enemies or Bosses by their unique attack. Only difference is there aren't any Perlious Attack Prompts unlike how Sekiro does it ). But this Should help , the Jump is not just for Jumping it also helps like Dodging and i think Jumping in Elden Ring has a very slight I-Frames to evade all sorts of attacks. 3- You could Heal Health or Heal the Madness Build-up by creating those Crafting Yellow Stones , One has an AoE Heal and the other has a Madness Heal by a small Area i think enough for 3 people to get affected by those Heals. 4- Torrent can be Healed by your Crimson Flasks rather better and Faster then those Crafted Rowa Berries you could Craft from the Crafting Kit you have. 5- Any kind of Grab attacks that Hits you , you could simply Mash-up and rapidly hit Buttons to further decrease the Damage taken and shorting the Animation in which you are grabbed. ( Force Mashing buttons will also massively reduce the Damage you would take.... You could also Mash buttons to Escape from any Animation , like being Parried by someone , or being stuck in a Torrent death animation or when you fall off Torrent basically ). Hope these little tips help out , but there are bunch of more aswell 😅💯 Goodluck folks. 6- Night time in Elden Ring massively Reduces the Eyesights of all Enemies.... Which could help for sneaking and Crouching your way thru certain Areas. ( And sometimes at Night time , the Erdtree releases yellow leafs that grants your character a 20% Increase of Rune gatherings... This is indicated by those falling yellow leafs from the Major Erdtree in Lyndell. But this only tends to happen Night or Dawn time in Elden Ring ). Enjoy 🔥

The gesture works on ALL glintstone head pieces (which is also for a puzzle) and here is a 2 for 1, the shackles (mogh or marget) will drop the pillars AND reveal hidden walls, floors, and any other illusionary objects.. be warned though they do tend to have a good range

For the sentry's torch, I don't think it works specifically on those walls, but it's weird that other hidden walls don't seem to be affected (not that it matters, mohg and morgott's shackle items are much better for wall hunting). Anyways, the real use for the sentry torch is to reveal hidden enemies. It even hints to that in the description, how it was specifically designed to reveal the invisible so another 'night of the black knives' incident never occurs again.

You can also use heals on the fire/ice spitting pillars, it will count as a 'hit' as well to lower or raise them

The torch one is because of the black knife assassin that's hiding in that cave. It is actively invisible as well unless you have that torch. So in a way it's the game telling you VERY indirectly that that torch will be useful for that fight

Someone’s already said it, but I’ll reiterate. Elden ring benefits from a mechanic already seen in previous games- called “Overkill” which is a mechanic that nets you 20-30% more runes if you deal more damage than an enemy has health in one hit. It functions with practically anything that deal one shot or more damage than an enemy has health.

You can activate and deactivate the pillars by using Margits Shackle. It even work from relatively far away. This is extremely useful to get the Tree Sentinel Armor Set.

the more famous use of that torch is killing black knives in Ordina, it can reveal the hidden enemies if you want to kill them. The name sentry torch may be referring to it can reveal invisible enemies~

The lore behind the torch is that they were created for the sentrys in the capital after the night of the blacj knives as it reveals the black knife assasins. They were created to prevent the black knive assasins from killing any other demigods

The torch reveals the stealth of the Black Knife Assassins and since a boss of those catacombs is a Black Knife Assassin (which will be revealed by the torch as well) it is likely that lorewise the Assassin used the Black Knife concealing technique to create the walls and therefore the torch can dispell them

Sentry's Torch reveals invisible black knife assassins and their illusions, the Sage's Cave is the location of one of these assassins. in the lore these torches were created with a holy blessing from the erdtree so soldier could patrol and fight off black knife assassins after a god was slain by them

In case anyone finds this, don't bother using a bow to take down those fire towers, use Mohg's or Morgott's shackle instead, it has a MASSIVE AoE and even though it doesn't do any damage or stagger, it will reveal hidden walls and will take down all towers within a huge area from you... even through walls.
