Another thing to note; in that final area filled with corpses you can find the Nomadic Merchant's Set. The description states: "These merchants once thrived as the Great Caravan, but after being accused of heretical beliefs, their entire clan was rounded up and buried alive far underground. Then, they chanted a curse of despair, and summoned the flame of frenzy". All those corpses *are* merchants and the ones above ground are just the remnants of their tribe.

You can also unequip and reequip weapons and armour to clean off blood, but (it worked like this in DS3, but I haven't really tested to see if it's the same in ER, although I'm pretty sure that it's safe to assume that it hasn't changed) only rain, puddles, lakes and soap will clean blood off of the body.

Sentry's Torch will reveal invisible enemies even when you have it on your back (2handing your main weapon), even though it doesn't give off any light when doing so.

The Sentry Torch is "bestowed with a special incantation that allows the bearer to see assassins *cloaked in veils."* Interestingly enough, the Black Knife armor set provides stealth buffs that make your footsteps completely silent, but only the chest piece... and if you alter that piece (which removes the veil), you also remove the stealth buff. So it's literally the JUST veil that provides their invisibility and stealth.

There's still a lot of wiki pages that haven't been filled out because we've only barely scratched the surface. So far the only thing we know about the three fingers are what their motivations are.

Little useful side note about Sentry and Beast-Repellent torches. You dont have to have it out in your off-hand. You can actually 2H your main weapon and still get the effect of the torch while its hanging on your back.

@@AMBATUKAM11111 You accept the frenzy before setting the tree on fire,Melina will tell you she is disappointed and goes to sesrch for another tarnished. You beat the giant,set the tree on fire thus she gets to live. Now since you accepted the frenzy you are stuck with that ending unless you reverse it in Farum Azula's secret dragon boss room. In order tk reverse the flame youd need Miquella's needle which you get after finishing Milicents quest and beating Malenia. You use the needle as soon as the boss fight in Azula starts and the flame is reversed thus giving you the option to use any other ending. Unfortunately you dont see Melina again

The last secret is by far the most sinister and involved lore. I walked through those doors without any research and found myself in a state and with an ending I was not for. It’s like Miyazaki knows how the human brain works and introduced an out just in case folks don’t like being tricked into an unresolvable ending. Excellent way to make players journey a very unique quest to get rid of the “infliction”.

If you follow Hyetta's questline to the end, she will be in that room before the mysterious door. There she will give you a hint on how to open the door, which was how I was able to figure out how to open it. She says something along the lines of: "Go to the door ahead, after divesting yourself of your possessions. It will surely open..."

For the invisible assassin's they're quite aggressive in how they approach you. I found surrounding yourself with the black flame incantation that circles you an ideal means of stunning them. They'll aggressively attempt to get in closer once their position is exposed by them walking straight into the flames

A tip you missed! You know those crystal darts that you have building up in your inventory? Throw them at any kind of stone machination, such as the cat statues (or even the little flying imps) and they’ll start attacking each other!

@@chrisparker9672 illusory wall and floor yes. The volcano wall is not illusory (and therefore is not dissipated), it’s just a bug/non intended wall you can crumble. It doesn’t bring you to any new place, nor open any new path (unlike illusory walls/floors)

Fun fact. I remember when I was scouring through Stormveil that I had hit one of the hawks with a Radahn Spear Greatarrow, and because the arrows emit gravity magic when they're fired they have the same effect as gravity spells. Kinda neat how FromSoft thinks of all of these little details.

The quality of locations is also tripping me out I expected most dungeons and caves to look the same. I haven't ran into a single copy paste cave. So far every small crack has ended being a badass trek into the darkness. The Flame effects of actually having to use a torch was quite the small touch that makes a small mechanic stand out so much.

@@guillermolopez1377 I've noticed like 6 walls that looked like auto generated dead ends, but that's nothing compared to the hundreds of secrets I've found poking around in every corner. The game rewards you for checking thoroughly and sometimes it feels deliberate. Like you stumble past a prison and the game says "Hey we know you've checked every single cell you've walked past since you left Undead Asylum so we hid some cool little lore stuff in a few of them for you. Can you find the shank and journal that one of them was hiding?"

As for the note to miquella's needle, there is an easier cheese to break the shack: stand next to it, quit out of the game and load back in. the spawning animation of the player deals a lot of environmental damage and breaks most breakable environmental objects, so that the player doesnt get stuck in them. sadly doesnt work for the statues that requires trolls/bears to break :(

@@AidsTiger Yeah I don't get why she's viewed as the one good ending. She literally caused this insanity in the first place by getting Merika's favorite child "killed." Fair enough. The Golden Order isn't necessarily moral. Order without any chaos stifles growth. But it's heavily implied she gets her loyal followers killed once she no longer needs them. And forgoing responsibility isn't a moral outcome. I think the standard ending is ironically the best ending for the regular people and species. You could rule as benign. Perfect order and definitely Perfect chaos would be worse.

Regarding the secret area within the underground area, it's tied closely with Hyetta's questline. If you follow it, you'll eventually meet another NPC who will tell you how to get here and then Hyetta herself will tell you how to open the door in a super obvious way (I was actually surprised she didn't phrase it like Vaati did, but the NPCs seem less vague in ER than other FS titles).

Sadly, if you look up Hyettas quest online, there are lots and lots of people that were locked out of the questline. You're supposed to be invaded at this one shack that's full of the health item that grants poison. It happened to me as well and I'm really disappointed because the reward for the quest is an item I desperately needed for my build. Even on NG+ people are still being locked out of the quest. Killing this invader grants a grape and without it you can't progress the storyline. Hopefully will get patched soon.

I found that I pretty well had the Beast Repellent Torch equipped in my offhand slot a lot of the time so I could stroll by all the beast type enemies and they would just leave me be. It was very helpful at lower levels and even further on in the game

I was just fighting some of the fire monks near the lake and I noticed something really interesting. It was night time and as I engaged in combat with the monks the erd tree disappeared. It became slowly became more and more dark around me. After the battle I looked around for the erd tree and caught it slowly fading back into view. I'm wondering if it's a thing to help with the loading during combat or an actual story or lore thing happening with the monks.

In regards to the Sentry Torch, if you use it to reveal the hidden assassins in the Ordina Liturgical Town evergael, you can put it away afterwards and you'll still be able to see the assassins. So if you want to use a shield or a second weapon against them, that's possible. This might work with the other hidden assassins, but the assassins in Ordina are the only ones I have tested it on.

So I've done something on ER. I've made a Great Shinobi Owl build. I throw poison pots and daggers to throw off the enemy, I use the firecracker perfume to keep them distant, Ive even found that the Albanauric Pot keeps them from using flasks for a bit, I've found the kaiden chest piece and gloves look good for this build, and I swap between 2 different Omen Cleavers (Curved Greatsword) for different ashes of war. One for lions claw, one for bloodhound step. Such a great build

Trick with this is not to back off, if you don't have enough reach to land the guard counter you won't be able to stagger lock them.

I love how this game is just... logical. Fighting an enemy made of crystal, and your sword isn't doing much damage? Just hit it with a club or hammer - logically it's easier to shatter a crystal with a hammer than a knife. Monster with a backpack of bombs? Light it on fire and watch them explode. Undead enemies? Heal them. Big, armoured enemies? Knock them over and hit the soft spot. I'm so used to games where it's just "hit until it dies" that this kinda stuff blows my mind. This is the first time I've really played a Souls game, and it's amazing. Thanks for the video, Vaati!

if you're an Alchemist like me, and need your ovaries from land octopi. You can kill them quickly and nerf their damage and range by slicing off their long front tentacles. You can cut both of their arms off allowing for an easy kill. It also does massive damage allowing for quick farming. so cool

The Haligtree was actually trying to become an Erdtree, being watered with Miquella's blood, but failed. I doubt it's the same as the Great Tree. You can find this from the Haligtree Crest Surcoat description.

nah, the Haligtree is an imitation Erdtree that Miquella/St. Trina planted near the Giant's area to possibly cure Malenia's Scarlet Rot, the "Great Tree" is Probably the other Tree that you see underground in Stormveil Castle and the Wide area/Fia's last location in Deeproot depths, you could see two large tree roots in that area, one under Lyndell for the Erdtree, and the other connected to Godwyn's corpse, with a serpent and where you get the mending rune of the death-prince.

The roots at the end of catacombs are usually geographically located beneath the minor erd trees you see throughout the overworld. It is another neat world design by From connecting those minor erdtrees to the catacombs around them. One of the items (forgot which) also states that important people / beings / creatures were buried under these minor erdtree roots to honor them. That's why the powerful mobs / bosses are located there. As for deathroots, you find a majority of them outside of catacomb roots anyway.

Crystal darts can actually make enemies mad and make them attack anyone in sight. This is very helpful on some twin bosses, like erdtree watchdogs, one cat just kills the other in a few hits. Not sure on how many enemies it works, so go and try it out for yourself.

Crystal Darts are a consumable item like the throwing knife, the recipe book for it can be bought in Liurnia, should be one of the first merchants you meet in the area. It seemingly turns enemies against each other, I haven't used it personally, but I've seen people use it for the Watchdog and Crystallian fights, when there's two or more of them. There's also an item called a Bewitching Branch, which actually says in the description, that it makes an enemy into your Ally briefly, using FP. You can choose this as your starting item, or later on find a recipe book for it, I haven't used this either, but it would be good to see if it worked on dual or triple bosses.

I don't think wearing one can prevent you getting the hidden bad ending, as you have to get naked to open that door shown in this video. And once you have the Frenzy Flame's marking, only Miquella's Needle can remove the mark. The mirror helmets likely add some sort of status resistance. To tie an ending to an obscure piece of armour, would be unheard of in a FromSoft game.

It's quite a bit more straight-forward than the standard Souls lore, but it's not a clear-cut story. There are things that happen and you know who did it, but then you don't know HOW exactly they did WHAT, how far back it was, what the implications are for the future etc. It's still very much a "community-driven" lore, in the sense that a lot of the things can be interpreted in different ways and it's up to the people to decide what something might mean.

@@unclevivid9028 Exactly what makes this whole thing confusing. Land octopi are stupidly weak to poison, and as a brand new character only poison is likely to touch them. So when coupled with the land-squirt note, the instant connection becomes "this thing is weak to poison, land-squirts are weak to poison, this is therefore a landsquirt".

Sadly in DnD5e thats not the case anymore... just special spells do that, Cure Wounds and Healing Word for example just dont heal undead but dont damage them anymore :/ It got somehow convoluted and streamlined at the same time.

Nothing stopping you from homebrewing that a Cure spell can damage undead or an Inflict spell can heal them, aye. Probably just didn't want to make it a universal rule for all Necrotic damage since that'd restrict design space down the line for what they can do with Necrotic spells (case in point- Chill Touch, a Necrotic cantrip with special additional effects when used against usually resistant Undead enemies)

How does that make any sense? They were locked away down there by the Golden order because they were accused of heresy. They couldn't get out to give her the eyes. They're holding their eye sockets because that's where the blessing of the frenzied flame impacts you - the eyes. It's why every frenzy incantation shoots from your eyes. Hyetta got her grapes from random frenzied followers in the lands between - she notes at one point that all their fingers were meek and trembling because everyone in the lands between is disheveled

Sup V, I got a kinda trippy detail that might be of some use to you on a future list. Did you know that the eyes of the first puppet on the left in Seluvis puppet room will follow you? I think he is the only one who does this, meaning he's only partially finished with the puppet process? Super creepy, but you got to love Miyazaki's attention to detail. I don't even bother to look for this kind of stuff in other developers games lol. I hope this is of some use to you. Love the channel, keep it up!

@@briskzilla9439 Spoiler, obviously: Behind the door are the 3 fingers, aka Lord of Frenzy. A cutscene will play during which they embrace you and scorch your body, giving you permanent scars and dark yellow madness eyes (can be toggled off at cosmetic mirror in Lia's room at Roundtable Hold). This will prompt Melina to leave the player permanently. Upon beating the final boss and not using Miquella's needle to remove the frenzy curse, you are locked out of choosing an ending. Instead, where you'd get to choose the endings it only says "become Lord of Frenzy", arguably the darkest and most desolate ending in the game.

I spent over 100 hours on my first playthrough which is nuts for a game like this. I spent no time farming anything, it was all exploration and fighting strong enemies. Im also kind of proud to have found out about everything from this video, except the poison and the torch for the assassins by myself. This game is awesome and I want more games like it.

10:16 You can also quit out and load back in next to them. The loading in animation deals object damage so you don't get stuck in something loading in, true going all the way back to DS1 where it was used to take out the breakable wall in Sen's Fortress during speedruns

The Frenzied Flame questline is the coolest and most interesting work that FromSoft has ever created, even going way back to King's Field. The amount of lore is insane, and it really is the most important subplot in the entire game. And if you walk down the path to get that specific ending, it answers a lot of questions and then poses a few new ones which will REALLY make you think about the world and what could potentially be coming.

@@timmccrthy It's coming in the dlc, no doubt. The whole thing is left wide open to not pursue it in dlc. From an awakening Miquella to the Lord of Frenzy, the giant Albinauric woman at the Apostate Derelict, the giant death statues in the underground areas, the coliseums you can't enter all over the map...so many questions left open that will make great dlc imo.

@@timmccrthy I was surprised that there wasn’t a hidden ending or variation if you saved Melina by kindling the Giants flame yourself, and then removing the frenzy with the needle. Since removing it requires so much optional content I thought there would be some reward or at least some unique dialogue but there isn’t any (that I’m aware of)

Interesting note about the Sentry Torch. If you put it on your back when you two hand you main weapon. The torch will go out, but it'll still reveal invisible enemies.
