My little biography. Once upon a time I was a New Products Engineer at Black & Decker. I was approached and asked to be on a new program and that I should say yes. So I accepted. This turned out to be a relaunch of a product line that had been burying here in the USA. So over the course of 7 years we grew the DeWalt Product Line from zero to over a billion in sales. Next up Porter Cable. B&D purchased Porter Cable and we went on to grow that product Line. I was a Sr. Advanced Engineer throughout this entire decades long endeavor and I loved every day of it. Cheers!

What!? Wow! That is so neat. Well thank you for your work! I'm honored you took the time to share that. What's the main difference between DeWalt and Porter Cable tools in your opinion?
@InvisibleCitizen
@InvisibleCitizen 5 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Sahlstrom The same professional tools engineering group in Connecticut. B&D merged Stanley Tools and is now Stanley Black & Decker. Another bit of history; B&D invented the hand held drill, Milwaukee invented the saws all, DeWalt invented the radial arm saw and Porter Cable invented the hand held belt sander. And Skill invented the worm drive saw.

You did pretty good with PC . Did you market them to DIY or to pros ?

I started with the Porter Cable drill/driver combo in 2012. I have since purchased the complete 20 volt line. The driver is the tool I use the most. Having a hobby farm, I use the tools on a regular basis and have built several decks, handicap ramps, and other projects. No complaints! Again, the driver has been used a lot and no issues. I got the 18 gauge nail gun, works fine. The only tool I don’t have is the orbital sander! I scored huge on batteries as Lowe’s was phasing out PC tools and I grabbed 4 larger batteries for less than a $100. My opinion on the 20 volt lines is they are all pretty good and cordless is the wave. I do still buy corded power tools because there are times when corded gives more power or fits a need better.

Great review, thanks! I own most of these tools but the brushless Ryobi version. I bought the majority refurbished except for the brushless hammer drill. I really like the 2-in-1 inflator / tire compressor… with a 4ah battery I can easily add plenty of air to my 65 psi truck tires!

Great review. Very informative. Special thanx for the steady image of the operating drill with the long bit where chuck precision can be assessed.

I use Porter Cable myself and found them to be very capable at doing what they do. Burnt my first drill up after 5years of heavy work. Things are so cheap I just bought a new one instead of repair. Don't have the big flashlight joblight or the radio but love that little flashlight. I'm a plumber and it's great for under sinks and tight spots. Adjustable head is fantastic. Thanks for the video.

Cool tip with the grinder. I had to hitup a Restore to find the tools to change discs on an old grinder. Unfortunately, there is no push-to-lock, so its a pain-in-the-butt even with the thin wrench. Nice review.

since they are inexpensive they are great tools for work. drop a drill off a lift or ladder and it is cheap to replace, same thing if they are stolen. the down side is that they are not as powerful or tough as mil/dew/makita tools. my milwakee tools were worn out and to replace them was going to 3 times the price of buying all new pc. pc are adequate for a job, and great for the house.

Craftsman has basically moved Porter-Cable right out of the arena. But I've used them for over eight years. I still use them to this day I think the batteries are way better than Craftsman.

Yeah DeWalt, Black & Decker, and Porter-Cable are all subsidiaries of Stanley. I'm not sure the batteries are interchangeable, I really doubt it; I think they change up the pattern of the plastic ridges and metal contacts to force you into a brand.
@BenjaminSahlstrom
@BenjaminSahlstrom 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I have seen a few places that you can use the Porter Cable batteries on Black & Decker tools by breaking out a little plastic tab on the B&D tools and then it works great. I'm sure that they don't really want you to do that though so that you have to buy more batteries!

lol my porter cable drill still looks close to brandnew after 7 years because it sits at home and used for home DIY. However, my impact driver looks like it has seen better days. Been using that thing 5 days a week for the past 7 years for my job. Still working fine but the batteries are starting to not hold a charge as long.

I have a crazy mix of systems Kobalt mostly XTR stuff, Bauer from HR, Metabo HPT and Ridgid. I saw this set and thought about getting it for my daughter who purchased her first home, is this the brushless set or the brushed?
@AndonJamesTyler
@AndonJamesTyler 3 жыл бұрын
This set is brushed and since porter cable line is no longer being added to brushless porter cable tools are limited to a midsize impact (647) and variable speed drill (607) and only a few other options in the lineup. Most brands now have a good 7 1/4 circular saw and much brighter work lights and much more powerful impact drivers. Dewalt is probably the leading 20v set for home & DIY. That being said I have many Porter Cable 20v and I love them. I use the brushless 647 impact almost daily and it is probably my favorite tool. These days you can buy whatever tool you want and get an adapter to run whatever battery you want.

Most of the time you dont need the wrench to loosen the blade on the grinders some times they do tighten up pretty dam hard and a cutting blade that is very thin you can't just grab cutting wheel like you grab the way thicker grinding wheel but you will break the way thinner cutying wheel doing it like that plus wen y put some weight down on that grinder and really make them work they get tight so I dont recomend to throw the wrench away because if your like me and use more cutting wheels the grinding wheels your going to have to use the wrench or like I said if you dont care avout the wheel put your glove on grab it firm and break it loose and install a new one

Affiliated with DeWalt? That's like saying Chevrolet is affiliated with Buick. Just like Chevrolet and Buick are owned by GM, Stanley Black & Decker Corp. OWNS Stanley, Black and Decker, Porter Cable, DeWalt, Craftsman, Irwin, Facom, Lenox, Lista, Mac Tools, Vidmar, Bostitch, Sonitrol, Proto, Paladin, CAM, Pengo, AeroScout, Stanley Healthcare, and probably more. With a few modifications, batteries are interchangeable between Porter Cable and Black and Decker.
