Thanks for this! There's loads of resources about comedy and performing but not as much about getting booked so this was really valuable

Took notes on all of these so I can ensure I do not accidentally get myself booked on a comedy gig. Thanks Hoss!

Greetings Matt! I truly appreciate your video, very informative and encouraging. I recently reentered to comedy world with my one of a kind Blind Dog comedy act! With the finally being my dog stands on my head while i play a 12 String guitar and sing a song about people misgendering him. I’ve been booked as a musician for 20+ years and now to share our comedy. It’s truly one of a kind, so naturally the next step is how to get regular comedy bookings. Peace and much gratitude🙏

Thanks mate! Really appreciated. It's also meant to be helpful to professionals too, as they make a lot of these same mistakes, and it can impact them being booked for a paid gig! So it's important to get into your good habits :D

Some good pointers for a noob. It seems that this is a saturated space and there's a lot of legwork to get booked. Without sounding arrogant or over confident, say I done a top notch vid straight outta the blocks on an open mike. Obviously it's a bit like how longs a piece of string and depends on how good you are, but let's say i pulled it off and it was a good gig would it be a case of promoters getting in touch if they think you're really good or is it a slow hard slog contacting promoters to get established? cheers

Hey brother, I’ve done two open mics out here in L.A. and got a booked show next month. My question is Should I scrap my 3 min and start over with a new set or should I just add to that set to make it 5 min?

Hey Mate, great question and maybe something I will cover in a future episode. But I think it depends on how your 3 minutes went down. If it went pretty well - Keep it and add to it. Hone the material you have. If it didn't go well, well mayeb try to figure out why things didn't work out in the way you intended. If you died regularly, maybe work on some new stuff. I would lean to: add to it. Because you should always be looking to grow your sets. adding extra lines and editing the bits which are unnecessary. This takes time. It's always a great feeling to make a broken joke work. Hope this helps, feel free to DM me if you need more help or comment on here Thanks Matt

@@matthosscomedy well done. Thx for the response. I will keep adding to it taking out the bad jokes that don’t work. More mic time. Hurray…. I enjoyed it so much. Booked on new faces of comedy. Excited to where the journey leads me.

You can honestly do as much as you want, and if you are in a certain place for a certain time, sure, fill your boots. But sometimes less is more when honing your craft. I would recommend not doing more than one per night, but if you can get multiple bookings, go for it. My key advice is that: reflection is your friend. Look at your show, look at what works, and try to fix or omit the things which don't work. You need time and self-awareness for that, and that can be hard if your racing from gig to gig (initially).
