Another element to scalp tension....a lot of people don't realize they can learn to relax their scalp. Tension in the scalp muscles is a common reaction to stress. And it's the kind of thing which might appear hereditary, but could be the result of learning unhealthy stress management practices from your family. This video discusses it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5bLnJKelLqdbM0

The hair on my head began falling out significantly after an extremely stressfull time I went through. So, I researched the internet & chose to experiment with a hair oil called litttleextra coocoonion and a comb made of neem wood. The results really made a difference. Now, I have long, thick, black hair which has reached my waist and trimmed on three occasions since I began using it. Simple & good. Also, just as good is massaging the scalp - it encourages hair growth. You just have to do this weekly. Pretty soon, you'll see new hair starting to grow.

Saw results within 2 months. After 45 months of use, new baby hairs became visible. I simply used Cocoonion shampoo, hair conditioner and oil along with Reaactivate hair growth serum.

I had an emergency brain surgery and minutes after I woke up from anesthesia, a nurse came in and tossed a ziplock bag in my bed and she said "your surgeon wanted you to have this. Sometimes people like to make wigs with it or whatever you want" and then I looked at the baggie and it was full of hair. Slowly, i touched my head and all my hair was gone. My head had been completely shaved in surgery and that was the most traumatic way I could have possibly found out. For the year+ while it was growing back, my confidence was completely shattered. It's nice to hear someone say no matter the state of your hair, you're still lovable and attractive. It seems like such a small, common sense thing but in the moment it feels terrifying and soul crushing *edit* just to be clear, I don't blame the nurse. I'm sure she thought I had already been informed that my head would be shaved by the surgeon

i was able to stop my hair from falling out and make it stronger by doing these things: 1- i ate more foods that have a lot of protein and vitamins like lentils, avocadoes, berries, chia seeds, nuts, beans, plain greek yogurt, spinach, soy bean, and so on. 2- i did yoga or exercise every day for 15 minutes to make my blood flow better. 3- i ate more protein and less junk food. 4- i started drinking 6-7 glasses of water every day. 5- i stopped using my old hair products and started using LitttleExtra’s coconion anti hair fall kit. 6- i only put oil on my hair in the evening because during the day it gets dirty from dust and pollution. 7- i stopped using a plastic comb and started using a neem comb. so by taking care of my habits and using the right products, i was able to solve my hair problems.

So Mama Doctor Jones has a video about this, but during pregnancy your body shuts down non-essential processes - like normal hair shedding and regeneration. So your hair follicles go into a type of stasis, and all the hair that would normally be shed during the course of your pregnancy starts to come away 6-12 weeks postpartum. It's completely normal and natural - and certainly very frustrating. But there really isn't anything you can do about it that's medically proven - some doctors do give advice like increasing protein etc, but as it is a hormone driven process nutrition doesn't have much impact. I hope that anyone reading this and struggling with pregnancy related hair loss takes it with the intent it is meant (from a midwife in training) and remembers Jonathan's advice about stress management - that really is the most important thing you can do for yourself ❤

My own hair growth success story I did this below: 1. Fragrance-free shampoo. The Korean cosmetics industry understands why we are still behind years ago. 2. Taoist soap for hair growth 2x per week: stops further hair loss and stimulates new growth (to some extent) can find it online but do this whole regimen not just this. 3. Nettle tea at least twice a day to remove hormone residue in the liver and further support the hormone balance. Fresh leaves seem to work better, but if you cant get the plant, just buy the dried leaves they are found anywhere. 4. Scalp massage for 30 minutes a day. Don't skip anything, just massage slowly and firmly with your fingertips. Proceed gently at first as there may be some pain the next day. Vessels in the scalp get blocked easily, even when we are younger - they are so thin, only 1 blood cell can pass through at a time. but they also get unblocked easily if you do this regularly as a habit. 5. Collagen powder 2x a day with one tablespoon each. Do not take pills as the dose is not high enough. Yes collagen breaks down in the body, but its absorbed in the right ratios the body needs to produce its own collagen, this is what many don't understand. Better nutrition for you, and more important than biotin in any stage. 6. Rinse cold water directly on scalp. Do not let cold water run on your neck or head, otherwise you may get sick. But once a day or a few times a week works wonders.Its to do with inflammation in the scalp. Helps sooth it - you don't need to do this all the time, but once every day or once every 2nd day is fine. You will see an instant effect in the amount of hair falling off after 2-3 weeks. I learned this from my brother who has been searching for answers for years. Now, at 38, he has a full head of hair. But at 23 he had very thin hair all over his body. I also had thin hair. Stick to the regimen, I promise you will see results. Hair growth requires many angles of approach at the same time and consistent for long enough - takes about 1-2 months for even severe older people let alone someone in their 30s. Please do share with family and friends.

GET A BLOOD TEST! I lost a lot of hair. Turns out my heavy period caused anemia. I was also low on vitamin D. So always check in with a doctor. It may be a simple fix like needing more iron. Also, have patience. Hair grows 1/4 inch-1/2 an inch a month. Which sucks when you’re trying to make it look more filled in and you have to wait months to see a difference. Another thing that worked for me is a purifier on my shower head. I am mildly allergic to water and getting rid of the minerals help my scalp issues which ended up helping my hair in the long run.

Going to the derm is the best thing you can do. I noticed my super long, thick, curly hair was suddenly not looking so long, thick and curly back in 2019. It took me soooo long to figure out why. At first I blamed my shampoo brand, but after switching, the hair loss continued. During Covid it only got worse. My job was full time virtual fall of 2020 and I noticed myself scratching the back of my head on camera like every 2 seconds (something I didn’t seem to notice myself doing off camera). I saw my primary care doctor in the spring of 2021 and she did some blood tests, which all came back normal and suggested I see my dermatologist about my scalp itching. So, finally over the summer or 2021 I went to my dermatologist 2 years after this ish started and was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. She had me use Head and Shoulders Classic Clean and Clobetesol steroid foam, which helped the immediate inflammation on the back of my head. A few months later, she started me on minoxidil, which really did kickstart some regrowth of my lost hair. I used the topical serum, which was a little messy a resulted in hair growth on my neck, ears, and face. So, please apply with caution! My sebderm had been horrible over the past 2 years though. I get frequent flares ups- they are pretty constant, and I’m still trying to figure out how to tame this damn thing. The regrowth I gained had all been lost and my scalp is constantly inflamed. I think I’ve finally got a grasp on what works and what doesn’t. My best advice for managing seborrheic dermatitis is: 1. During flare ups alternate between medicated shampoos: Head and Shoulders Classic Clean, Head and Shoulders Clinical Strength work best for me. Others like Nizoral, T-Sal, T-Gel (the point is that the malassasezia gets used to the active ingredients and they become less effective over time, so switching it up often limits the fungus’s ability to adapt) 2. Coat your scalp in Head and Shoulders Classic Clean (this is hard to find/ I get it at Wegmans) 3. During active flare ups, wash your hair every day if your hair can handle it, or every other day. 4. If your are not in an active flare up, use the medicated shampoo 1x a week and a “sezia “ safe shampoo inbetween. I like Odele Ultra Sensitive Shampoo and Conditioner, which are fragrance free and approved by the National Eczema Association. 5. If you can, blow dry your hair and don’t let the scalp sit wet for too long. 6. Before your buy ANY product, plug the ingredients into the sezia database at sezia . Com. This will tell you if a product is safe to use for seborrheic dermatitis or if it will “feed the fungus. Unfortunately, most products targeted for scalp care are not safe for sebderm. 7. Watch your diet. Some people’s sebderm are triggered by dairy, sugar, and gluten. I keep a tracker to monitor my flare ups, triggers, wash days, etc.

Great advice, but you failed to mention oral minoxidil as a medication option. Propecia is only safe for men and amab people. Lately, oral minoxidil (as opposed to topical) has been getting increasingly popular (New York Times even wrote a piece about it recently). Studies have shown it to be more effective than topical and it's so much easier (and less triggering) taking a pill every day vs putting chemicals on your scalp every morning and evening. Oral minoxidil is safe for all genders (consult your dermatologist first though) and works absolute wonders. For women//afab people with androgenic alopecia/hereditary hair loss, spironolactone is also a good option to supplement the minoxidil since it works by suppressing the production of androgens that cause hair loss. Lots of trans women actually take it for that reason lol. And what's also great with spiro is that it makes your skin look amazing (sometimes it's just prescribed for that reason alone). Anyway, I'm no doctor, just someone who's been struggling with skin and hair issues for years 🙃 Huge fan of yours Jonathan! People like you make the world a better place edit: Just want to add that if you're afab and taking testosterone, spironolactone might not be what you're looking for because it can increase the production of estrogen, but definitely ask your dermatologist first 🫶

I have alopecia areata... 4th autoimmune condition to show up 🙄I went out with some friends with a full head of hair at the beginning of the night, then had a bigger-than-palm-sized bald spot 4 hours later. Having had autoimmune conditions since I was 5 years old, alopecia areata was one of my biggest fears. I've had five bald spots over the last couple years, the last one being about a year ago. I had a little bit of fallout around my hairline a couple weeks ago, but I haven't found any actual spots, so 🤞🏼 Not that I'm JVN at all, but I have some insight in case anyone is dealing with this, knows anyone who is, might in the future deal with it: A) Regarding alopecia areata specifically, root cover spray in a light brown/dark blonde saved me from shaving my hair off. Spray it directly on your bald scalp to camouflage that bright never-seen-sunlight scalp color poking through your hair. I have bleached blonde hair, but light blonde spray didn't offer enough coverage for me, which is why I usually used a light brown. And, btw, my dermatologist told me that having my hair bleached didn't cause it... that usually(!) causes hair to come off in the mids-ends kind of area, not baby-smooth bald spots. And when my hair started growing back in, it was even more fine and almost clear it was so white. It gained color as it grew in, which, again, my dermatologist said was totally normal. 2) A slight precaution for minoxidil: it can (and probably will because it's awesome) work, but it can also cause hair growth on the face, neck, chest, and rest of the body. Is that the worst thing in the world? Absolutely not... I mean, an abundance of hair can be great if you're trying to fight loss of hair! But it's just a side effect some people may not want to deal with. D) Lastly, if you (meaning people of the world, not like JVN or anybody else specifically 😜) know someone who's lost their hair and is upset about it, just go with something like, "That really sucks." Definitely do not say, "At least it's just hair and not something serious." Because it's just hair until you don't get to choose whether or not you still have it. I know I'm great whether or not I have my hair, but it's my frickin hair, and I want it to stay on my head!! But, like I said earlier in this very long comment (sorry about that!), developing alopecia was one my biggest fears, and I cried nonstop for an entire week and a half, but four years later, I've been through three bouts with it, and I'm still here, so it's not quite as scary anymore 💝

Thank you so much for such a responsible take on this topic. I'm in remission from thyroid cancer and on thyroid replacement medication, and I've struggled with hair loss and growth and loss and growth for so long that I've just given up lol, I don't have the energy to give a f*** anymore. As long as I'm healthy and alive, that's all that matters to me. But I completely understand that it's not so simple for others, and my real point is that it's SO IMPORTANT to make sure you check your health before anything else because 1. if it's health-related, no magical serum or product will help; and 2. your health and well being is worth more than ANYTHING ELSE in this world. For those in the US, if you can't afford to go straight to a dermatologist, yearly wellness checks are completely charge-free (or at least they should be - if your doctor is charging for that sh**, you run as fast as you can and get yourself another GP), and that is the perfect time to bring up that health concern. They'll usually send you to get blood work and check your levels. Even if it'll be difficult to afford care after that, you'll at least have some baseline work done to see if further help is needed. And to your second point, ABSOLUTELY. Human beings are a miracle in itself; what an incredible thing that we get to exist and love. It's not easy to shake off all the societal expectations we've grown up with, but it is possible. And there are people in this world that will not give a f*** about your hair loss - those are the people worth your time and energy. Thank you again, loved the video.

Over a two year period I experienced a COMPLETE hair change...from stick straight (wouldn't even hold a curl) to super duper coily from the crown down and the crown so coarse and kinky that it will literally stand up on its own AND on top of that, I started losing hair on the crown so much so that I have to "camouflage" it with my hair. THEN I suddenly started having scalp buildup even though I used "clean" shampoos & conditioners. It's insane!!!! I just wear it in a bun all the time because it's so schizophrenic. No cancer, no med changes, menopause over for years. No hairdresser can figure it out.

I come from a family of women with AGA and thinning hair. Not fully losing, but gets very fine and thin -- not until their 40s and 50s, usually. BUT, I got covid and almost died. Like, respiratory failure for a few days in a hotel room because it was the very beginnings of covid and the hospitals were only taking you if you were LITERALLY about to die. Then I miraculously recovered, with the close watchful FaceTime eye of my doctor. Then, about three months after, boom, hair is falling out in clumps. Crazy, crazy shizz. I get diagnosed with telogen effluvium, start taking prenatal vitamins, and the hair starts growing back. It's pretty traumatizing, but I take deep breaths knowing it's coming back. Then I stop taking prenatal so it will just grow back on its own, and a ton of new hairs start falling out again. And then of course I'm stressing out, which makes hair fall out more (a sick joke), and after about two years of TE turning into repeated bouts from any stress exposure, I just give up and get Rogaine. It's definitely been helping, only on it for 9 months now, but I'm still not where I want to be. Don't like seeing as much scalp as I can, but I'm trying to be thankful for what I do have, and still having mostly good hair days when I'm not too critical of myself. I'm 34, by the way, and single, so feel like it'll be harder to meet someone with thinning hair, but I have faith Rogaine will at least maintain what I have for quite some time, My best advice to anyone with TE or any sudden hair loss: 100% go to the dermatologist, even through your fear and denial and upset. Get to the bottom of it because there's a saying in the hair loss community: TIME IS HAIR. It truly is. If I would have started Rogaine RIGHT after the first TE like I was told to, I probably could have recovered most of my hair. I'm hopeful I still might be able to, but with time and every loss, it's likely that you will just lose a follicle altogether. Once the follicle is gone, that's it. Don't be afraid to go on minoxidil. I was, have very sensitive skin, etc. I use the unscented foam and it's easy peasy and gentle on my skin. Not much issue at all. Sometimes a little itching, but I counter by using nizoral and have a liquid steroid from the dermatologist to use on my scalp if itchy. It's okay to care about your hair and do what you can to maintain it.

Try using a natural shampoo for 3-4 months. A shampoo that doesn't have sodiu laureth sulfate and has no parabens (I like Avalon Organics with lemon scent, but there are other good products out there). These cost 3-4 times more, but it solved not only hair loss in the shower (I'm a male) but also completely got rid of dandruff (after being mislead by the Head&Shoulders product for years). You can even go with Johnson's yellow baby shampoo - it doesn't foam so just gently rub your hand on the scalp and rinse, it leaves the hair perfectly clean. I don't have any issue with the ph either after 2 years of use

really appreciate this video for helpful and realistic tips- so many of these lists have unrealistic advice like “don’t brush/wash/blow dry”. If anyone reading the comments is in need of help with hair loss due to thyroid related issues, I have found after five years a few things have been super helpful for me: - regular blood tests and looking at some secondary trackers like ferritin and not just biotin/iron/usual suspects - being pushy about getting the right medication for me. Doctors often say “well it’s just hair loss” “you’re getting older anyway”. You know what feels right for you and what you want to feel like -rosemary oil- it actually works Good luck to everyone managing this - hair is a huge part of how we perceive our own appearance and hair loss is associated with many illnesses. If you’re losing hair, your body may be telling you something else is going on. Allowing myself to mourn my hair and say it is ok to be upset about hair loss was a huge help for me.

I think hair loss can be seasonal too. I notice that I lose quite a lot of hair in the autumn, but grow it back again over the remaining part of the year. It just adds to my seasonal melancholy. When it gets dark at 4pm, it's cold and miserable outside and my hair is falling out...ugh. In the spring of 2022, I purchased one of those laser therapy caps and it's seems to have curtailed that seasonal hair loss. I hope it lasts.

Could it possibly be linked to lower vitamin D levels?
@zenobiaw831 Жыл бұрын
@@hannahmitchell87 Maybe. I do wonder if those who live in more sunny areas year-round suffer from this? I know I'm not the only one. Maybe it's just like when our pets shed or grow their winter coats and our bodies detect that the sun won't be making an appearance for several months and we won't need as much protection on our head?
@hannahmitchell87 Жыл бұрын
@@zenobiaw831 This was my top search result for 'vitamin D hair growth' 😮 "Vitamin D stimulates hair follicles to grow, and so when the body does not have enough, the hair may be affected. A vitamin D deficiency may also be linked to alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition that causes patchy hair loss." I knew people in northern latitudes should supplement Oct - March but didn't know the relation to hair growth! Hope this helps x

I suffered with hair loss due to stress in college and it was horrifying. My hair was coming out in clumps and bald patches were noticeably and rapidly forming. I’m not sponsored in any way, but Vegamour hair growth oil totally saved and transformed my hair to being even better than before the hair loss started. My bald patches completely filled back in and I still use it for maintenance. I use their extra strength formula, it’s a little pricier than their original hair oil but it saved me. I highly recommend it (No shade on JVN products! I just haven’t tried them yet and wanted to provide some advice I have firsthand experience with. I’ve been a fan since the first season of Queer Eye so please don’t come for me, I’m just trying to help 😂).

I've been having hypothyroidism-related hair loss for basically the last 25 years along with the brittle hair structure that often comes with that condition. To add the cherry on the top 3 years back after a traumatic event in my life I also developed alopecia areata which kept reoccurring at different spots on and off ever since. Sigh. But yeah, most important is to make sure to have all your nutrients in place, have a lot of protein, meditate (if you can), and most importantly... as hard as it is... don't stress out about it. It only makes matters worse. Thank god, nowadays fashion allows for so many interim solutions like wigs or head wraps.

Don’t forget untreated hormone disorders, like menopause and hypothyroid, can affect hair loss. So seeing a doctor to get bloodwork done can be beneficial to treat an underlying issue.

I am a 40 year old guy, and I have to wash every morning and put stuff in it to make it look somewhat voluminous and make my head look less weird. And since its fine texture the hair gets ridiculously flat just by running my fingers through it instance… thx for the profesh feedback.

I typically wash my hair every day for hygiene purposes, interesting to find out that's not good. It makes total sense, though, because that's when I notice the most breakage and shedding. My brother has gotten extremely mad at me before over the clumps of hair in the drain. Apparently, I don't even notice it, but he does. He's so passive aggressive he doesn't throw it away, he smears it on the side of the shower, so I recognize the error of my ways! Asshole. xD
