Thanks for the entertaining and informative video! I have super fine and thin hair, and my wallet is even thinner than my hair! 😂 Would you say an expensive hairdryer like a Dyson is worth the investment for fine/thin haired people? Thanks!

how should someone with fine combo hair style their hair? I struggle with this. After having my kids, my straight hair turned wavy/curly with the exception of the very front section of my hair. I don't like to use heat on my hair unless its for an event. I have curling creams but it only lasts for a few hours before its straight again. i need help.

Hi! To answer some of these: 1) definitely check out my favorite hot tools video, there are great other hot tools besides dyson, and people are loving the new shark one but I have yet to try it! 2) I’m going to be making more fine hair specific videos, but the messy bun one has some cute tips for thin hair! Beach waves or 70s hair could also with the right product! 3) there are plenty of great brands out there that I also feature here like authentic beauty concepts but I of course am partial to the brand I’ve put my entire career into that stands by the values that matter to me as a hairdresser such as clean, efficacious ingredients, inclusion and environmentally mindful. Many sets on Jvnhair.com average out to $12 per product and we offer up to 25% off sometimes and currently 15% off if you take the hair quiz - so many of the products you can get for under $10. The best sellers set may be a great one to start with!

Movement haircut: Some layers in fine hair can enhance movement. But not too many!!! 4. Protect from breakage: Use a hair mask to strenghen your hair and prevent it from breaking. Ex - Nurture deep moisture mask 5. Sleep with your hair up 6. Volumizing conditioner: apply a good conditioner all over your hair, from roots to tips. 7. Heat protectant 8. Embody foam 9. I think there is an enormous difference between fine hair wavy/curly people and fine hair straight people when it comes to concerns and how to treat hair. As a pin-straight fine hair person, I found that blowdrying doesn't do anything for me. Whatever technique I use, it falls flat again immediately. But my hair gets a nice volume boost for about half a day if I let it air dry because the individual hairs are still a bit soaked and therefore bigger. It is also easier for me to bring long-lasting shape and body to my hair with non-heat overnight methods rather than heat tools. My routine is washing my hair in the evening, using either foam or salt spray and wrapping it around a headband once it is almost dry, then going to sleep with that. I wake up with nice loose waves. On night 2, I put my hair in a loose bun to maintain body and movement for day 2 and use dry shampoo in the morning for more volume on the crown. The biggest factor is honestly the length. I've had all hair lenghts and the shorter the hair, the easier it is to produce and maintain shape and volume. I switch between chin-length and armpit length, any longer and it gets really hard to style.
@vanessamacneil5978 Жыл бұрын
I have similar aggressively straight fine hair. Like, I swear! Unless I use a ton of product, and sometimes even then, you could hold my hair and gunpoint and still watch a heat-style slowly and sadly just release. When I had my hair long over night styling was key if I wanted curls or volume.
@ingupin Жыл бұрын
@@vanessamacneil5978 so nice to hear that someone else with fine straight hair has the same experience as me. I wonder why overnight methods work so much better for us. Also it is frustrating and kind of funny how little hairdressers know how to treat this hairtype even though it is not uncommon. I swear, everytime I go to the salon I arrive with nice wavy voluminous Hair but after the cut I can watch the hairdressers get increasingly frustrated because they insist on blow-drying my Hair with a round brush or using a curling iron on it and of course it doesn't work but they don't want to admit that 😂

The funniest salon experience was when a guy insisted it would create amazing movement in my hair If he blow-dried it from underneath with a diffusor and "Crunch it Up". I know this works great on people with natural curls but what the hell did he think it would do for me? I left with very frizzy straight hair and immediately washed and styled it at home because I looked so bad
@vanessamacneil5978 Жыл бұрын
@@ingupin I've been lucky in that I leave the salon with great hair, but it lasts a total of maybe an hour after I leave. And I don't ask for anything elaborate! My hair is just so fine, but there's so much of it that it's also really dense. And now I'm going through that really cool change in life where it apparently now also has two different textures. I keep it really short now because battling cowlicks is easier than trying to manage long, heavy hair.

@@ingupin yess! i always air dry my hair and it looks so much better than when i blow dry even though its always a tip to blow dry fine hair. Its so confusing sometimes... What i found works for me as well, even though i dont know how good this is for my hair, is washing it with only water on the 2nd day, sometimes even on the 3rd, i feel like it gets kind of more "grippy" and more voluminous than when i shampoo it (shampoo seems to make my hair lay incredibly flat on my head?)

Sadly, I've purchased too many JVN products that my fine hair doesn't like. I have waves, so I bought the air dry. It leaves my hair flat and greasy looking, barely using a nickel-sized for all my hair, which is almost to my bra strap. I bought the instant recovery serum, I believe it's called, what he had before had a spray in. It's too much. I bought the leave-in conditioner, too much, too greasy. The shampoos from the quiz weren't right, so I needed to purchase the volumizing set. If I use the scalp oil, it leaves my hair oily till I shampoo it again. The oil for the ends of the hair, I need to be super careful of because it can also be oily on my hair. I love the shampoo! I use Olapex No 3 once a week. Leaving it on for 45 minutes with a disposable shower cap. After that, I shampoo and condition with Embody and I don't have problems with it being heavy. There's no silicones in Olapex No 3. It has helped my hair immensely!

My fine hair is impossible to deal with. Dry shampoo helps and a small amount of teasing. Mousse used to work to help keep volume during and after a blow dry. No curling irons give enough volume or will actually hold a curl in my fine hair. Foam rollers overnight and an ancient set of Caruso Steam rollers work. Velcro rollers and a blow dryer would work for volume but other than that not much helps. I got a perm and it took two solutions and double the time for it to take and I have only found one person who knows how to do it. I avoid all oil on the scalp because it will make everything greasier and oiler which I try to avoid lol

He teaches you how to shampoo and condition your hair properly, how to safely heat style, and other industry secrets your hair dresser doesn't want you to know. For example, while there's some great tips in this video, putting conditioner on your roots will actually weigh down thin hair and make it look greasy after a day or two. Wenzel shows you exactly how to maintain a healthy head of hair by going a few days in-between washing. His salon tries out every single product and he came up with a recommended product list by hair type. He cuts through the bullshit of the hair industry and gives you his wealth of knowledge for free. This man is a saint. I've struggled with confidence surrounding my hair since I was a teenager, and Wenzel gave me that confidence back. My hair now has beautiful texture and bounce. Having consistent good hair has positively impacted my life in all areas. If you're like I was and suffering from lack of confidence due to thin hair, check out his channel!

I let it dry from there without using a hair dryer…since I don’t have access to one. That’s when I use a heat protector spray whenever I use a flat iron. I do however keep the flat iron no hotter than 350 because I don’t want my hair to break more than it already has before. Thank you for this, I’ve gone for 25 year of my life, never having a hairdresser that knows how to work with fine hair. Never having anyone around me that has it either. It’s always been a major struggle with breakage, matting, flatness. Thank you!!

Im 58 years old and just got the 2nd cut of my life about 5 months ago, that actually had me not running to the car to fix it myself. And this cut is growing out so well. I almost hate to have it trimmed.

if I skip the concentrator how do I reduce frizz? I have straight fine hair and use a blow-dry concentrator and a round brush so I can add volume without using the shine, the one thing my hair does well is shine and be smooth and soft, and it's hard to blow-dry without a concentrator without losing that. I don't want full dull hair and shine products weigh my hair down :(. I'd love to see a blow dry tutorial for straight fine hair from JVN because this tip has confused me.

I just massage my scalp. Sebum helps fatten your roots so when you create volume it lasts…or at least that’s what works for me.

My hair is fine, medium density and type 2C-3A. I never apply heat. Also I pretty much never apply any after shower products to it coz it tends to get weighed down easily. I feel my hair looks best when it’s air dried with zero products in it. And I NEVER detangle when my hair is dry coz that’s breakage city for me. The tangle teezer wet detangler works best for me when I brush through my hair in the shower. Also JVN thank you so much for busting the no-conditioner-near-your-roots myth. Great informative video as always.💕✨

I’m what order so you use these products? How many should I use? I have shoulder length fine hair that breaks easily. I use both hair dryer and iron (at times).

My hair is either greasy/flat looking instead of sleek or it gets “volume” but in reality gets frizzy/poofy with tangles every time I encounter wind. I’m highly considering getting a pixie cut and wearing wigs when I want long hair

I've been having haircuts with no layers because that's what others always recommend but I've been noticing that my ends do get wispier and my hair looks kind of dead tbh and you're the first to suggest to create some movement for fine hair. I definitely want to try something out and see if it helps. Thanks for the tips Jonathan!

i have fine hair that's thinned out over recent years due to my thyroid and it's such a pain in the ass. i can style it and do everything right, it'll look great, but the moment i start doing stuff or the wind blows, it's game over. hair becomes super spindly and thin looking, it tangles. the wind is my biggest enemy, it'll make my freshly cleaned/styled hair look DIRTY as hell within minutes. literally the only way i can style my hair is with updos. i'm gunna look into your videos and hunt around and see if i can figure out how to wear my hair down.

My hair used to be so thick. Tablets & a weakened immune system have helped my hair become thin & bitty. I also suffer seborrheic dermatitis which is no fun. I hate my hair so mostly have it up out of the way. I have an undercut at the back which was shaped into a spider web & i did 2 side ponytails or plaited them. I colour my hair with semi permanent vegan hair colour, reds, purple, black. I am a Goth, afterall. Please tell me, should i just shave my hair off & start again? I have grey hair under the colour. 🖤

I really love these tips... my only concern is that, as much as many of us love your products, not everyone can afford them. Do you have any tips for anyone who wants to give their hair the best chance whilst trying to be budget friendly? Maybe a video comparing budget friendly hair care products & styling products would be amazing!

Thank you for your tips!!! I went to a new stylist a few weeks ago and the first thing she said to me was, "Wow, your hair is so fine." She actually told me to not use conditioner, which I am not following because I live in Colorado and my hair desperately needs MOISTURE! Anyway, just ordered the best selling stylers set from your JVN line and am so excited to try it out when it arrives. Love the channel!

Yes, detangler. I'm a Wen girl and have been for 14 years. Chaz now makes a botanical. It made my hair VERY strong. I have NO frizz anymore. Your hair is nice. In fact, you look like our family. Maybe that's why I got a bit "hinky." Anyway, back combing rips away the hair "tiles." It does make nice volume at the crown area. What I was looking for was how to blow out in the crown area. I always end up leaving that part a bit damp and it lacks lift, not volume. If you could make a video about that I'd appreciate that. I gave you a thumbs up because you're very nice. Okay, back to work...I see by the hash tags that you made more than one video. I'll check those out when I'm not working my head off....LOL...

I have baby fine hair. I’m not sure, my guess it’s probably medium weight in terms of amount of hair. It tangles really bad, I can’t seem to avoid. A lot of times I just put up in a ponytail because sometimes I just can’t get the tangles out.

Where I get thrown off is the whole low vs high porosity hair. I have no idea what I have and I hear mixed messages online about the ‘float test” not being accurate. My hair floats if I drop it in dry. If I get out of the shower, it immediately sinks. What does that mean? I’ve also heard that some hair types should not have protein added because it will dry the hair out more. My hair when I was young was very thick with a little natural wave. As I’ve hit my 40’s and had 2 kids, it’s gotten a lot thinner. It always feels dry, no matter what masks or “miracle serums” I use. They feel good for the first day or so but seem more like a temporary band aid. I have gone in to get my hair trimmed and what I feel is my hair being soft, to the hairstylist they say my hair needs more moisture. So even at what I feel is my hair being its very best, leaves the stylist saying otherwise. 😭 Help.

Love your videos, they're so fun to watch and very useful. This will probably get lost in all of the comments and you won't see it but here's a question about protecting the hair before swimming in the pool. My daughter (8yo) swims 3 times a week in a swimming club and they ( the kids) don't wet their hair before going into the pool. Could we possibly just spray a little water and put on a conditioner at home before she leaves?
@jvn Жыл бұрын
Yes!! You can definitely do that so the hair absorbs less of the chemicals in the pool. :)

Extremely helpful & 🩷 you! But how exactly should we sleep with our hair up? I don’t use scrunchies or bands, because they cause breakage. I usually only put my hair up with a jaw clip, but I can’t sleep with one in. I tried a sleep bonnet & satin head scarf but can’t sleep with ‘em in, it’s too hot. A pineapple cap also looks too hot. I was tossing and turning all night worried about it and I don’t know what to do, please help!

Hi Jonathan, OMG I'm literally binge watching all your video content, but more importantly starting to embrace and love my 'unruly' hair! Its fine, but a lot of it. Post ovarian cancer and subsequent surgical menopause, along with a naturally genetic premature greying (salt 'n' pepper here, now push it) I decided to grow it long. Its been like 10 years since I had long (pass shoulders) hair and I began to remember why I cut it off in the first place! It's kinda straight, but not, kinda wavy, but not and underneath is kinda curly ringlets, but not and kinda frizzy, but yeah you guessed it, not! Tempting to cut it all off again, I came across your channel and its literally saved my hair! I have invested in the all new important JVN haircare range and basically following your video content advice. I'm seeing results already! It isn't 'perfect', but just requires a little practice. I'm keeping the grey too and channeling British Vogues Sarah Harris ;) Big heart to you JVN xx Love CP

how does putting your hair up stop it from rubbing on the pillow case? it's still rubbing on the pillow case, just as a different angle lol. an angle that could add volume... but if you wash your hair in the morning it doesn't matter lol.

Thank you! I’m really on a mission to stop hating and giving up on my very fine hair. It somehow manages to be BOTH flat AND frizzy, it’s won’t hold a curl to save its life, airdrying styles are some of the only ways I like my hair, but the top ends up frizzy, so I have to brush through it and then the bottom ends up frizzy 😭 it’s just so frustrating. For my best friend’s wedding I needed so much hairspray to try to hold a curl that my hair was like a crunchy full helmet and it was so gross, I hated it.

Hi Jonathan. I just watched your video. I am going to be 75 years old and when I turned 70 I started growing my hair. I loved the 70s and I had long hair, so I decided since I am in my 70s I was going to grow my hair. Right now it reaches the middle of my back and I am a natural two tone. When my hair is down the color is medium brown, however, when I pull it back it is silver and grey. My biggest problem is that my hair is very fine. I am on medications that the side affects are thinning hair. I would appreciate any recommendations from you are what products of yours may help my hair. I refuse to cut it since I love it long. Thank you for your explanations and I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience😘❤🧡💛💜🤎
