I knew a drummer, and I think he's a whole other type of drummer - what I'd like to call the "I Can't Hold My Sticks Properly" type. I swear, while doing a beat on the hi-hat, he would have his right elbow up at head-level, and point his stick downward diagonally while hitting the hi-hat XD Also, there's another drummer I know, the "I Can't Hold My Sticks At All" type. As you may guess, he's the guy who used to drop a stick every 10 seconds, no matter what he's playing :P

Goabnb94 i have to get a new china about 4 times a year. Their weak cymbals, but sound soooooo good. Crashes get replaced about once every two years. I've never broke a ride or hi hats though.

Martin Kronander Dang dude, 2 Meinl Byzances in 6 months?? Jeez...yeah I used to use Wuhan chinas back when I couldn't afford something pricier (although I wouldn't mind using them again). Went through one about once a year but it was also back when I was inexperienced and hit my cymbals like an animal.

I've had similar breaks with some of my cymbals and it has little to do with the "cheapness" of s cymbal and more to do with improper hitting technique. I've destroyed many of chinas, and crashes from hitting to hard and at weird angles. You'd be surprised how mangled up some can get! Especially from heavy hitters.

I will say that Wuhans do crack easier though mainly do to their hand hammered construction, but Wuhan in general uses the same metal type as the bigger names. Their crashes actually hold up just as well as any other brand.

+Alexander Rice The chins is definitely a Wuhan (95% sure), and for the price they sound awesome. They are hand hammered so the sound varies greatly. Ever tried one of their crashes? They hold up surprisingly well.

It's not hard to get a good drum sound generally I'd use two D112's kick in/ out, snare 57 top and bottom, 421's on toms, and overheads I use C12's but if you can't afford those just use AT4050's.

Andrew Polemeni I'm aware of the mic choices but throw a U87 on an out-of-tune instrument and you get an awesome recording of... out-of-tune-ness. You have to also consider gates he used, compressors, and mic placement. It's not as easy as picking a microphone from a list of industry standards, with all due respect.
