You can use a standard Allen Wrench on the clamp bolts. Just hook the box end of a combination Wrench onto the Allen, and Wallah, instant cheater.
@Guns_N_Gears3 жыл бұрын
@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS Absolutely, glad to help!!! There is 1 caveat though, there is less contact area for the wrench, and it is much easier to strip the heads this way, but it works in a pinch 😉 Safe riding all!!!

I usually loosen the bottom bolts on the riser under the tree and then tighten the top bolts on the risers, the risers will align correctly to the bar and get more surface area. Then tighten the bottom bolts. You’ll put tension on those bigger bolts instead of putting a lot of stress on those small front bolt that isn’t aligned.

The last method is the simplest and the most effective like you said just clamp it down correctly! How about a hardened dowel with a pointy end, dropped into the existing hole for the triple tree bolts? Make them just long enough that the pointed end contacts the bottom side of the bar, so when clamped up they bite in... That way no drilling holes and should be easy to remove when needed, plus can alter the angle too
@KJ7JHN Жыл бұрын
You didn't mention using a set screw in the middle of your riser. Perhaps in combination with a nail punch to divit your bars...? Another option alongside the pinch menthod is to grind off 1/32 from the bottom of the top of the clamp. Now you can use the pinch method. Keep up the hobby!

The file and rasp is the co..... set you bars in the risers, then any tape either side of the risers. Then whip ya bars out, file nicely, take your time, triangle to do the risers and nice heavy file for your bars.... yep in doing this tomorrow.... how do you measure to put new bars is, i wanna put in drag bars, but i like my bar height now.... so is it just down to a straight edge and measuring tape??

There is another way. Remove risers/clamps, and, using sandpaper and glass (as if you're skimming a cyl head) remove material little by little, so when you put them back on, the clamps clamp harder.

i use a silicone cooking sheet and cut strips off of it, simple and effective, or those wide rubber bands work, anything as a bushing will work for a temp fix, though the silicone bushing cut from the mat is still in there and has been for going on 5 years now.

I use a small sliver of clear gorilla mounting tape between the clamps they will not move at all when clamped down.
@rjoetting7594Ай бұрын
Another way that works for me is a variation of using the roll pin. Drill and tap a hole in the top of the risers, then afterward install the risers and handlebars and take a punch, then dimple the handlebars and install Allen or torque screws with blue lock tight. You can use red but getting the set screws out afterwards is a bitch.

Very interested, I always thought that # 1 should be use RED LOCTITE on the clamp bolts and tighten on a cross pattern till create equal gap on the clamps to be torqued to factory specifications. Now, using a extension on a ratchet or torque wrench is wrong, since you never going to get the right torque measurement from factory. My 2 cents. o¥\O chopper 4 life.

I'm working on a custom build for my 85' Honda shadow 700VT and I was having trouble with this pair of clip on bars slipping, I triple checked they are the right size for my forks and I have tightened them down hard as hell I even ended up stripping a bolt on one side but they still slip when I apply a bit of force like 30lbs or so, I also tried the clam technique from the video but with no luck. I don't know if I should roughen up the clips ons and the forks. I have heard of some people using duct tape on the forks to give the clip ons better grip but it seems like that may be a short term fix. Any help is appreciated, also these videos are a huge help.

@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS After I installed my TJ Brutal bushings and the 2” risers, I ended up cutting two small strips of wire mesh, coated them with Tiger Wax, put them in where the handlebars go, and then tightening the bolts down like you recommended in the video. Super solid now. I didn’t think of using KY Jelly, as that is a water based personal lubricant made for medical procedures and sexual activity requiring lubricants. If you think it would work, I am willing to try it on my handlebars. I was planning on buying some TJ Brutal handlebars for a Spring project. Do you sell KY jelly on your website?
