It's a good thing he got insurance before he left last time, would have cost him a fortune, was very lucky. Has to work on walking first. The 180 day TDV would be the way to go, and extend at Immy for 1900b for another 180 days. Apply before you are in Thailand.

Which is fine, he may have a few months or he may get the year but the main thing is he gets there if he can. Realistically I don't think his odds of doing that are great, he'd have to get mobility back which will likely take months by which time it might be too late to make the trip, but obviously I hope not and if he is able the last thing that should hold him back in insurance or visa overstays

He knows he's got months to a little over a year if he's lucky. He's accepting of that. He also knows he's looking at several months just to get mobile. You get 1 x 60 day visa exemption plus 1 x 30 day extension applied for at immigration. You will then need to leave and re-enter. If you do a land or sea re-entry (called a border run) you can do the same visa exemption plus extension again. You are allowed 2 land or sea entries per calendar year. Or unlimited entries via air. Due to the 60 day visa exemption period now, immigration officers have been instructed to scrutinize and check people more. Especially ones doing multiple entries with little time in between visits. So even with unlimited air entries I see immigration questioning people more. Always remember, no matter what the rules are, it is the border control officers decision if you are allowed to enter the kingdom.

Ask them about what treatment they’ll expect to do post radiation. I would expect chemotherapy. Quicker you can work out the course of treatment, the quicker you can plan the future.
