Dutch is taught in, the US, at UC Berkeley, UC Minnesota, etc. I recall--to get a PhD in German, in US colleges, one must master German, and a second Germanic language, such as Dutch, or one of the Scandinavian languages.

I find Dutch difficult to learn with two main things: 1/ the word order and it seems that main idea comes at the end. 2/ Lots of combinations based on what you want to say.

There are some words in Bahasa Indonesia are loan words in Dutch such as kantor(office), Maret(March), etc. because the Dutch colonized Indonesia from 1600s until 1945

For some reason Stella pronounces the "n" at the end of words, but most Dutch speakers and Dutch learning tools (like Duolingo) do not pronounce it at the end of most words unless the next word starts with a vowel. I don't want to say Stella is "wrong" but I believe she's leading learners astray. I caught her omitting the "n" in one video, so I suspect Dutchpod is making her pronounce the 'n' and she doesn't do so in daily life.
@ENT68311 ай бұрын
It’s not really that they don’t pronounce the ‘n’ it’s that they pronounce it much much more subtly than an English and other languages’ ns when it’s at the end of the word. If you completely remove the ‘n’ at the end of the word that’s wrong too. You just need to make it incredibly small and subtle which they actually do do in Duolingo you just have to train yourself to hear it. Edit: maybe ‘wrong’ is too strict a term bc different dialects are different even in native speakers. But my point is that there is a very subtle ‘n’ sound at the end of words in every Dutch listening tool I’ve used (many). It just takes time to train your ears to hear it if your native language uses more prominent hard ‘n’s. Edit2: also technically speaking I think dropping ns all together is a slang language thing so if you want to learn more formal Dutch, learning to do the subtle ‘n’ is important. Plus it makes it easier to distinguish when speaking bc fully dropping an ‘n’ can change the grammar of a word. I dunno. I’ve been repeatedly told not to drop my ‘n’s when I thought I was mimicking colloquial speech more exactly so … I guess it also depends on who you talk to.
