Hey Bill, I just wanted to thank you for the very informative videos. I am blind in both eyes, but thanks to you-and Sparrows Tuxedo Kit-I've picked my first five locks today. I never thought I could do it, but I watched a ton of your stuff, and I did it, just as fast as my sighted peers. I cannot thank you enough for the joy your instructional and engaging videos have brought me.

I've thought that lockpicking would be a good hobby for a blind person! It seems to me as long as you keep your tools organized and can find them, it would be no different than a sighted person because it's based on feel

@@SightlessSenshiI've just started as a beginner. I just ordered the "7 pin ultimate adversary lock" you can change out the pins easily so you can practice with security pins, and combinations of pins. I'm not sure how easy it would be to use without being able to see the small parts. But that might be something cool to look into

Dylan Waggoner I used to have one, actually. I gave it away on my channel once I out-grew it. It is great for learning, for sure. But eventually I started getting into custom-built challenge locks and such. A bit more challenging. :)

Wasn't Dedalus the man that designed the labyrinth for King Minos that trapped the Minotaur, he had a son named Icarus

Daedalus in Greek Mythology. A craftsman, considered the inventor of carpentry, who is said to have built the labyrinth for Minos, king of Crete. Minos imprisoned him and his son Icarus, but they escaped using wings which Daedalus made and fastened with wax. Thanks for the videos Bill.

They just spelt it wrong. Daedalus was Icarus's dad. Icarus was the one who made wings with feathers and wax then flew too close to the sun.

Great video mate, have exploited the pin holes in the warding before but there are some evil keyways that don't have holes through the warding, have to find another way around the restriction. Sometimes I have used a very thin pick which allows moving between the warding, other times I've actually made high reach thin ones with curved tips that I have to turn to get up into the pin chambers, then rotate coming back out. Once used to it I found the hardest part was getting used to the different feel of touching for pin tips on what would be the side of a normal pick.

So why don't they extend the steel keyway for the full length of the key, have a very high cut last pin, and a very low cut first pin?
@steelbre
@steelbre 7 жыл бұрын
Would you mind taking a sharpie or ? and draw lines along your pick so I can tell which pin you are working by the number of spacing marks I can see. I try to keep up with what pin you are working by how far the pick is in the keyway but its difficult to identify say pin 3 from pin 4. Tom

I have a really thin shallow hook that would be great for that padlock, and surprisingly it's from one of those really cheap oh-my-god-there's-so-many-picks-in-this-set-buy-it-now sets ebay is infested with. Sometimes those sets are worth buying for things like that.

What pick would you use in that padlock cisa if you would not know the heights of the pins, or if you had not the key of it?

Why did the lock-maker drill through that lip of the warding? It seemed to be below the resting position of the pins.

Is the shackle shimable? It doesn't look like the lock has ball bearings but for some reason I don't think shims are going to work.

This question is unrelated to this lock, but I'm unsure where to ask it. Can the square bodied Master Lock 6835 be bypassed like an American Lock 1100 given that the bodies are identical and really the only functional difference is the actuator angle?

beautiful picks! also very nice the wood is without oil or other stuff on
@MonkeyLockpicks
@MonkeyLockpicks 7 жыл бұрын
Just a light coat of boiled linseed oil to give more durability. I think the wood grain gives a nice grip.
@andreibordeianu
@andreibordeianu 7 жыл бұрын
I had seen a video of someone preferring axes handles with no oils. Natural wood being softer on the hand. I guess the same would apply for picks: the metal would give feedback and the wood would make for a softer handle.
@MonkeyLockpicks
@MonkeyLockpicks 7 жыл бұрын
I've started finishing handles with boiled linseed oil just after I saw a video of some knifemakers finishing handles like that. The wood feels softer but is hard enough to give all the feedback needed when picking!

Does anyone recommend the multipick 27 elite pick set for a beginner because I want to get into lock picking but I am probably going to be rough with the picks so i wanted a high quality set that will not break no matter how much stress I put the picks under while I'm lock picking so if any one owns this particular set I would like to know if you would recommend it to a beginner thanks 👍

Try to explain to her why you want to get one. Perhaps show her some videos or let her know something about the hobby as an activity instead of a crime. It's just like shooting a gun at a range for fun; doing so doesn't mean you'd want to shoot at people.
