This really helps. I got a practice lock from Covert Instruments and it has a Schlage keyway. The picks I got from there, too, I discovered on my own to pick from the left side. I'm curious, if you'd suggest top-of-keyway tension (as that's what came with my set) or bottom-of-keyway tension when having to pick from that left side angle.
@HelpfulLockPicker
@HelpfulLockPicker 2 жыл бұрын
I prefer top of keyway (TOK)

You can only do it with the locks you can take apart.

@@HelpfulLockPicker yeah, I dont own any that you can take apart. But I've ordered a couple of cut aways and a couple of Euro cylinders so that should keep me occupied for a while.

that core with the kwikset keyway is actually a defiant core, which has one extra thing to deal with over a kwikset. they've usually got a spool or two, and the tolerances are way way worse than a real kwikset
@HelpfulLockPicker

It is nice to see more spools in these lower end locks from time to time

Been watching your vids. I know what a warded lock is. Sooo, what is the warding in the american pinned lock? I'd like to see it in disassembly. I'm honestly confused.
@HelpfulLockPicker
@HelpfulLockPicker 3 жыл бұрын
The warding is the sides of the lock which makes the profile. These are pin and tumbler locks and are different than warded locks

You've mentioned pick thicknesses of 25, 21, 18 and 15 thousands. I can find 25 and European slimlines of 22. Where can I find the 18 and 15?
@HelpfulLockPicker
@HelpfulLockPicker 6 жыл бұрын
Gary B From as United States perspective Peterson offers 0.018 and 0.015. Sparrow is a popular choice for 0.015 but I do not believe they offer 0.018. I rarely use 0.015 because that is too thin for me and I strongly prefer 0.018
@educatebo
@educatebo 6 жыл бұрын
I found the 15 and 20 at Sparrows. You have the most logical academically orientede series I've found- and I've watched all of them. My sincere complements :)

No problem, I strongly prefer using a 0.018 over a 0.015, the added strength makes a difference. Thank you for the kind words!
