1109 - HG MS-05 Zaku I [Char Aznable] (OOB Review)

Two years after buying it, I finally got around to building it. The only reason I got this version was because it was on sale. I am slowly appreciating this kit, and so far I haven't regretted buying it.

Thanks for clearing the air in the differences between the various Zaku I origin kits as this really cleared the air for me. My wife recently purchased this kit for me from a local con so I don't feel bad about having owning this kit. lol

The parts missing from the MS-05S that need to be used to fully convert it into the base MS-05 are the dark red bell-bottoms of the legs, the dark red kneecaps, the standard Zaku machinegun without belt, and the shield. The majority of the legs, as well as the COMPLETE left and right shoulders ARE included in the kit, but without painting a few parts and borrowing/modifying the shield from the Bugu/Waff, this exact kit cannot be made, at least OOB.

Is this the only Char Zaku I in the HGUC line? If it is, I guess theres a reason for Bandai to make this kit as the MS-5S isn't a "true" Zaku I at heart.

this isn't HGUC technically. but yeah it's the only MS-05 Char color kit.

ZakuAurelius on that point , apart from the bottom of the feet and head it is an exact color swap from the regular zaku 1

I like the holding hand for the normal rifle. If you rest it towards the base of the side handle/end of the hand guard area, you can get it into a tight, close to the chest pose- shooting towards the left. The sideways shooting position actually helped me appreciate the Zaku II shoulders- the shield is at the "Back" of the suit, where it would bee hardest to turn around towards. The spiked shoulder is forward facing, allowing you to have a melee option against an approaching target that manages to close in. Of course, all of that is for the zaku II shoulders (like on the other char kit for this...). But the close in holding pose is still nice. It also works as a 'resting' pose when facing forward.

i just got this kit and i might sound dumb but i didnt know there are other versions of this. oh well. i havent built it but i think i'll like it. i really wanted my first mono eye kit to be a char kit so, still okay

all dark red armor parts came with the ms-05s kit, you could build this version with the ms-05s kit.

False- the kneecaps and bell-bottoms in dark red are missing. Commanderfox was right about the trim; he didn't mean the decals. The base backpack included is similar enough but not quite, either.

Just get the Bugu it includes the shield Has a little Bit different mold and a monoeye that moves with the head ^^ so if you only want the shield, the Bugu is the better Kit to get (also: does the Waff include the shield as well? Then that would be Another Choice)

Sono Popularity based on character, I suppose. Char kits are pretty much guaranteed to sell, so I doubt we'd ever see one as P-Bandai. Shame really, considering how nice stuff like the Waterproof is.
