It's been a long time coming but we finally got the flywheel and clutch fitted. Flywheel alignment is an interesting topic worth spending some time over, but in the end it makes little difference to the actual timing of the engine.

@@WaterhouseForde Hi Gordon, my flywheel replacement has the arrow and some indistinct edge markings - you indicated that your next video would discuss this as relates to timing. Cant wait!

😉 - I'll let you into a little secret; look for a corresponding arrow on the block at the top next to the stud. Line the two arrows up and you're golden! If only I'd noticed it before!! I can only surmise that the series of dashes will indicate degrees BTDC, on mine there are 9 dashes in two rows - so that seems to align because you wouldn't normally go any more aggressive than 9 degrees of advance. Just don't tell anyone else! 😂

@@WaterhouseForde Cool Bananas, thanks for the advice - I'll check TDC on cylinder 1 and correspondence with the flywheel I'm removing and report back!!

Hey mate, I see you mention sanding the core plug however that's not the best practise as its very difficult to get it round and even. A trick that always works for me is to find a big socket, sit inside upside down and hit it with a round blow hammer. This constricts the core plug, yet still maintains an even shape. Love the vids btw 🙂🙂👍👍

Hi Peter thanks for your comment and advice. I agree it would be difficult to maintain the roundness if you went at it with sandpaper. I was thinking more about ‘deburring’ to remove any imperfections on the edge. What you describe is in effect to increase the ‘dome’ profile which decreases the circumference. Thanks again for clarifying this point and for your support 👍👍

I always thought that an engine core plug went in dome 1st to help with the "sprung wedge" effect to secure them in place, regardless of what engine they're being fitted to
@WaterhouseForde
@WaterhouseForde 2 жыл бұрын
Hi 09amusement, the dome style plugs go in the other way and you “flatten” them a bit to spread them into the recess. The dish style however does go in with the dish side first. They work on the sprung wedge principle whilst the dish style work more on the physical principle of expansion to achieve a friction fit. Hope this helps. 😉👍

@@WaterhouseForde Thank you for reply, it is always good to get feedback. Would either design of plug be compatible with a TE-A20?
@WaterhouseForde
@WaterhouseForde 2 жыл бұрын
No worries. Sadly I don’t think the dish style does work because of the limited depth of the recess. Watch the next video I’m sure I discuss the topic further. Certainly only the dish style would have been available at the time these engines were built. 😉

@@WaterhouseForde Thank you. I'm going to be splitting my TE-A20 to replace the internal seals, whilst in there we are fitting a complete new clutch, won't be a bad idea to do the core plugs too whilst we're in there

Could you tell me the size camshaft core plug that you got? Please

@WaterhouseForde 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle, it was 2” core plug. It has to be the dome style not the cup type as explained in the video.

Your best bet is to post a message on Facebook in one of the Fergy groups. Otherwise look on eBay for someone advertising used engine parts message them and ask if they have one to sell. Good luck, it horrid when something like this happens. 👍
