@ianhughes7805 > Strange how this hasn’t been mentioned by our main media No, it really isn't. Car fires are not particularly newsworthy unless they cause a major incident, there are hundreds of them every day. Regional news outlets reported it, but there was nothing there to interest national news. Using average figures there were about 80 people killed or seriously injured on the roads that day - how many of those were covered by "main media"? There's no conspiracy of silence - a car catching fire just isn't "news".

When she first told me about these incidents where they quickly burst into flames, I thought it was someone sensationalising electric car hate, if you know what I mean. I do like a lot of the leccy cars, but gradually have turned away from them, and now practically ignore new releases due to these shocking problems. I know not all of them will do this, but the chances owners are taking are far to much. They all need to complain very loudly to the highest level of manufacturers, get them to recognise these safety issues and resolve them as quickly as possible, immediately. Doesn't matter how expensive they are, or how good they look or how good they make you feel, they are never (potentially) worth the lives of your family, never! Well done to Dave for what he did, he had the best immediate reaction and didn't mess around, or dither. Yes. Less than one percent of all car fires are with EVs - that was from the honest John web site. Anyway All cars contain combustible material like brake fluid which is extremely flammable. The problem with battery fires is they are very hard to put out though

Dave put his family first, brave man. Volvo better pay out massively
@davidbittner46745 ай бұрын
Clearly Volvo has a problem. HOWEVER, recent statistical research indicates that an ICE vehicle is 20 times more likely to catch fire than a pure EV. Oddly, an Hybrid is 40 times more likely to catch fire than a pure EV - no explanation was given for that phenomenon. Now, while it has been documented that pure EVs are less likely to catch fire (and will always hit the headlines when they do), the problem is that IF a battery suffers thermal runaway, resulting in a fire, they are a bastard to put out. Newer battery tech (notably the BYD Blade battery) are less likely to suffer thermal runaway, even if the battery is pierced. I feel sorry for the family that got injured by this event and that they should have a good case against Volvo for financial compensation. Volvo should not have been delivering new vehicles if there was signs of a fire safety issue.

Well, I know that JLR are close to launching a fully electric RR, but AFAIK it isn't out yet, and I don't think it will look like an Evoque. If they are also developing/prototyping a pure EV Evoque, or using one as some sort of mule/technology test-bed they generally keep as low a profile as possible.
