I loved this kit, glad it was my first MG version of the classic. But those foil stickers are garbage. The arm ones wore off almost instantly... I did just end up painting those parts.

Some parts were very difficult, like the elbow joints, but it was mostly easier than I anticipated. Just a lot more tiny parts than an HG kit. I would recommend not bothering with the stickers as I broke an integral elbow joint piece trying to put a sticker on it. Because of that, one arm has nothing below where the elbow would be.

This is my first MG kit too and I will say that those elbow joints are weird if you’re coming from HG kits. The elbow stickers came off almost immediately after putting the elbow joint together which sucks because I put a lot of time in to them and I was careful. I haven’t done the water decals yet because it’ll be my first time.

If you get the chance to build the 3.0, the elbows are fairly frustrating. Mostly because you have to balance them and make sure they're facing the right way.

I love this kit, I actually have 2 of this. I can't really compare this to the MG RX-78-2 Origin, the MS Design for the Origin is specifically aimed for the manga version of the Gundam and this is more of a real update of the Master Grade RX-78-2 w/ the updated color separations, articulation, detailed inner frame and surface details. Don't get me wrong but I also love the MG Origin but for me these are 2 different kits, I have a Amuro Ray section of my MG collection and I use this as my display piece due to the fact that it goes well with the Nu Ver. Ka and Hi-Nu Ver. Ka. The MG Orgin for me is a stand alone kit and this is more geared towards the standard RX-78-2 design that we all know.

I like the appearance of this one, but I think the origin version is a far superior kit. Mine feels somewhat loose (I only got this feeling before on the mg crossbone x-0) specially the torso and side skirts. I still need to build the arms and weapons, but I feel it won't be too much fun, due to the complaints about the elbow lol

same, my waist is so rocky/loose. I found it to be more sturdy using the core fighter as its center instead of the block base you also get, if that helps you any

@@Bobert2020. Ah, thanks. I asked because some time ago I unfortunately in my tired state damaged the pieces that make the nose and back fin fold on my 2.0 model. And the right wing doesn’t fold or stay together very well. I found a website that can deliver replacement runners but it was for the 3.0 version. So this could save me money on buying another 2.0 since we unfortunately don’t have a dedicated system to buy replacement parts outside of Japan. And I’d hate to have another model of the exact same one just to get a few replacement parts. I do plan to also get the 3.0 model since you can never have enough of the RX-78-2.

I've built quite a few RG kits and those foil stickers for the joints are always hit or miss. they work and look good on some kits but on others they just peel off over time and don't look very good. I think the RG Astray kits are a good example of where they work because they go on surfaces that are relatively flat and they hide nub marks on the Advanced MS joint parts.

The shoulder is ver ka design I think. You plug it into the arm first, then to the body. You will find it fits and holds to the arm easily.

Sucks that it doesn't come with the LED. I've only bought a couple of other, smaller kits in the past and I was chatting with the guy working the shop about which RX78 to pick up. Mentioned to him that the LED was a big reason I'd want this over the 2.0, and he never told me it didn't come with it. Hopefully they're not too hard to find.

When you top coat/flat coat do you take the kit apart completely or do you just break the kit into subunits (head, torso, arms, legs, equipment)? I would imagine once assembled some pieces would be near impossible to take apart completely. Thanks!

IDK why, but I like the RX-78 CA more than the original. Something about the color just makes it so much cooler imo. It uses the 1.5 frame and I love it. Its a really solid kit for being 14 years old.

Coffee Dude I actually have both and use the 3.0's head on the origin (since I soldered the head off of the 3.0 for the last shooting pose) and I think it's the same connector. Or at least easily exchanged, ends up being the best version of the origin since my only complaint was the small head

Half way through building this and so far the arm units, specifically the elbow joint has been the worst experience building models to date, even if this is only my second MG.I think I spent around 2 hours and one still doesn't function the way it should. Also the way the "forearm" and "wrist" connect is pretty awful. I hope it gets better from here

I hope Bandai grows out of this phase where they think multi toned colors looks good soon. It's not even realistic which is the main argument. You really think White Base is carrying around 4 different colors of white paint with clean paint apps? Same thing can be said for markings. The crew wouldn't take the time to put on 50 warning decals. I do think the big markings are reasonable though.

Lewd Senpai I completely get your point but there are a lot of different styles of builds and it would be boring if everyone looked the same. While White Base or any other ship for that matter might not have had different paints or caution stickers AE might have. I personally like a style of build where it looks like the suit just rolled out of AE brand new. Others like battle damaged kits or really realistic builds. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
