That was a super fun video about some seriously unimpressive locks but you still kept me hooked till the end, great video 👍

Always keep one in your field kit, just in case.

I am just a hobby picker now and then, but I love my key so much I always have one on me at least. I have one on my keychain sandwiched between some 1" velcro rather than have the key 100% blatant on display on my keychain hanging off my belt. Then, just to do it I cut the head off one of the keys and put some GorillaWeld on there to make a ribbed surface at the top of the, now cut, barrel. Then put some tight silicone tubing on the end (leaving enough working length to content with plastic gripped models like speedcuffs etc) and then I hook the split bit through the loop end of a bobby pin and slip a slightly larger piece of silicone over the top, covering the full amount of the little key (edit: also a tiny ziptie to add a little nub to grab on for turning force). Then I bend the excess bobby pin length to make a hook and it's sat on my neck chain with my YubiKey Neo :P. Just to do it haha. I like little projects like that. I just got finished destroying a mini NFC tag and scored, cut, filed and made myself a basic version of the double lock key on my new cuffs so that I have a plastic backup in my wallet in case any unforeseen shenanigans happen with my pair. I have to jiggle it a little bit but I have tested it and it opens and closes on both double locks. I love it when little things like that end up working.

@@SilentButDescriptive Oh I have a few backup keys tucked away various places, the one in my field kit is for work emergencies.

Looks like the latch on that old lock can be rotated to work in a door opening in the other direction as well.
@Nite0wl5 жыл бұрын
It is indeed field reversible to adjust the handing. Just remove the cover plate, carefully pull the latch up (the spring will try to escape), flip the latch over and slip it over the hub, then replace the spring in the slot in the latch.

One more thing that can wear out is the hub on the actual latch. Those ears will wear off and then the latch acts as a lock that cannot be retracted unless you can get a knife in to retract it against the spring. Your only option then is to remove the door from the frame and remove the cassette. Ask me how I know 😉

The best way to explain all these things with 3d geometric shapes and pops = like this, like that. LOL
