This brownstone two unit beauty at 118 MacDonough Street is located on a beautiful block of unique Landmarked brownstones. As seen in BROWNSTONER! Indeed, upon entering this stately home, you are transported into the late 19th century.
You can't help but notice all of the details this house has to offer: 7 beautiful fireplaces; original pocket doors on two floors; original pocket shutters; lovely parquet floors and high ceilings. There is intricate woodwork on the doors and mantles. The fireplaces are framed with exquisite tile work. Plus preserved original plaster moldings and medallions!
This is one of a superbly decorated row of six French neo-Grec brownstone residences, built in 1886 by Arthur Taylor, a neighborhood builder. The houses retain their stoops with original handsome balustered railings and posts at both stoop and front yard. The row is unified by identical, richly ornamented roof cornices with typical neo-Grec incised brackets as well as the continuous horizontal band-course with billet molding which crowns the first floor and incorporates the door lintels. Small carved panels under the second and third floor windows unify them vertically. Delicately incised designs, which give the row a very special character, appear in the large brownstone panels between the basement windows and the parlor windows.
The garden floor has an expansive eat-in kitchen, bath, and mud room leading to the backyard. The front room currently used as a second living room is a perfectly placed dining room. The garden faces south.
The parlor floor boasts many mahogany details; a rear room currently used as a bedroom which could be adapted, for example, as a library. There is a full bathroom on every floor.
The third floor has two large bedrooms and another full bath.
The top floor is a rental unit with an open kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, a skylit office space and a bathroom.
This is a great location - the A & C trains, parks and shops are nearby. The locals love the neighborhood haunts such as Peaches, Saraghina, Chez Oscar, Eugene's, Casablanca and it is not far from the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
Welcome to this stately home in Stuyvesant Heights!

Nice home on a somewhat quiet block that has lots of history to make you 😳😳 ( especially after you read some of the accounts which happened at the church on the tompkins corner) years ago a very nice school teacher lived closer to throop ave....her son is a famous actor named Lawrence Fishburne. The house in this video should be labeled like this 1: the cellar which is below ground..can be entered through 2 outer trap door..1 in the front yard & 1 in the backyard. 2: the ground level a.k.a. street level a.k.a. garden level...originally had a dinning room in the front and kitchen in the back 3: the parlor floor can also be entered from the outside via a flight of outer brownstone stairs...the front was the parlor room a.k.a. living or recieving room & the back room was the library
