Unicorn spit is more vibrant but I love the boom gel colours and the lacing is beautiful I think I’d use both for different effects or projects

Agreed. This test was for the Bloom technique, so specifically trying to get brilliant colors with lacing.

Boom ‘Gel’ stain’s used along with their Boom Cell booster.. produces the best results.. lm here within Australia.. and it’s my all time, go to paint.. it wins, hands down 💯 % the best part of Boom Gel stain’s it dries flat on any surface.. canvas, tile or what your using.. best product on the market..

Boom gels also have different opacity levels like paint. I think unicorn spit is primarily a stain and mostly translucent

I think you're completely right. Transparent paints are usually pretty good with this technique, but not so much in this case.

The cell activator was Australian Floetral and Amsterdam Titanium White paint in a 3:1 ratio.

Yes, the Unicorn Spit colors are nice and vivid. I was doing a comparison specifically for the Bloom technique, which is all about the lacing.

You're right. The Boom Gel is thicker, so a smaller puddle actually creates more color.

Awesome test! I’m not surprised by the results, though. Unicorn Spit has some sort of oil in it, even though it’s water washable. You aren’t supposed to use acrylic-based varnish on it, which implies that there may be a reaction with acrylics.

I use Unicorn spit in acrylic pouring. It mixes with floetrol quite well. You are right about there being some oils in it, but I just find it gives me cells.

Hi y’all 💜 i mix Unicorn Spit with Floetrol for the lacing. Yes. Natural oils of jasmine and lemon grass so no silicone necessary 💜👏🏽 Straight from the bottle or mix it with acrylics, alcohol inks, or even make your own alcohol ink colors by diluting Spit in 71% alcohol 💜JSYK

Thank you for doing this. I just bought some unicorn spit to try because I am in Canada and it isn’t the easiest to get the boom gels either. But I have watched the results that Gilly kube gets with the boom gel and it is amazing. So now with your experiment I know I need to order some boom gel lol. Thanks so much I know u are in the US but where are u buying your Aussie floetrol from? Do you think that you would get the same lacing with the boom gel using US floetrol or do you think the Aussie floetrol helps? Boom gel also has a boom booster that increases the cells even more

I get my Aussie floetral from wholesalepaint.com.au/ It's expensive...that's why I refer to it as Liquid Gold. Hah! But it really is amazing for this technique. I also gt good results with US Floetral, but you need to mix it up fresh and the Aussie can be mixed and stored. Also, the cells are just "different", but still quite lovely. I ordered some Boom Cell Booster and just got it. Will be experimenting soon!
