This may be my favorite boat that Captain Q and Ran-day have featured so far! My dream is to spend a couple of years cruising the islands before transiting the canal and doing a 4-5 year circumnavigation. This very reasonably priced vessel, after a good refit (which is honestly called out in the Yachtworld listing) could be exactly the right boat for that. It's not time for me to take the plunge but I am confident that she will show the new owners an amazing time. Thanks, Captain and Ran-day, for sharing her with us!

Stunning, simply stunning. So well maintained from the look of things and laid out very, very well. Now that's a vessel I'd happily live aboard as well as visit some tropical paradises with. Great vessel for some island hopping and spending as many seasons at anchor as you'd want. With the ability to cross oceans and even circumnavigate if that's your goal. Easily one of the best ready to go vessels you've shown us... Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless...

45 is a reasonable rating. A Hood. The Aston Martin of yachts with so much going for it. The price? Are you kidding me? That's insanely low for a Hood. Anyone with any insight into sailing will jump this yesterday. I am speechless as to the details. Thank you RanDay and Camptain Q for a wonderful tour of a classic fantasy of mine from long ago. Side note I want to know what happened to the drone guys watching Randay's boat trip. Be well .

Wow, what a gorgeous boat. Definitely a top 5 CQ feature. My uncle, who ran the marine supply store in Apalachicola, FL for 40 years, was given an antique ship's clock like the one on this boat. He took it home, wound it up and set it on a shelf. Then about four AM it went off and woke up half the neighborhood. My aunt was not amused. 😂

I was drooling over the on-deck walk about. Even an old man like me could single hand this boat with the rigging and systems I saw. When you took us below I was like "wow!". That saloon table is simply breathtaking. The woodwork is worthy of any cabinet maker that I've seen. Well laid out galley with tons of storage. Love the access panel to check the oil, as if that engine access isn't enough. Great use of a pocket door in the head. 2 double state rooms is a plus. This would definitely be a yacht that it's owner will enjoy showing off to guests. The only thing I saw that it needed was an electronics refresh. I'll take it. Captain, will you take easy monthly payments ? Don't wake me, dreaming makes me happy. 😉

To me, that boat screams, old money. I can see someone that valued their money and would spend their money to buy value, would be an owner of this boat. Someone found all of the details and intelligently designed the best form and function. I had tremendous admiration for the designer/builder for this boat and then we saw the engine access. Who thinks of that? This boat is a bargain but, considerably more boat than I want, more room than is needed for a couple and more upkeep than this old man wants to deal with. It is a great find! Why does the ship strike set a bell off every 4 hour's and not every hour ?
@YachtHunters Жыл бұрын
Google: Unlike civil clock bells, the strikes of a ship's bell do not accord to the number of the hour. Instead, there are eight bells, one for each half-hour of a four-hour watch. In the age of sailing, watches were timed with a 30-minute hourglass. Bells would be struck every time the glass was turned, and in a pattern of pairs for easier counting, with any odd bells at the end of the sequence. CQ

I'll take the steel hull Ted Hood sailboat anyday over this plastic boat. I prefer wooden sailboat that are glued together with the epoxy west system. I like traditional wood sailboats also, but they have to be over built like a tank, kinda like the Samson boat co. is building. It's a Bristol Channel Pilot cutter. I also don't mind gaff rigged sails, but they have to have winches to haul up the sails. Oh & the little top sail is worthless. So my favorite sailboat would be the Spirit 50ft. I just wish they made them in a ketch rigged. My favorite old traditional sailboat would be the Falmouth 45ft all wood Channel Pilot Cutter. Another beautiful traditional sailboat is the boat named Emma, it was built like a tank. Below the waterline on the outside of the hull covered the entire hull with tar & sheets of copper were screwed into the hull. The sailboat was built with the very best material, they have a video of it being built. I bet you would enjoy it Captain. The Puffin you guys showed was an absolute stunner. I would also love to own the steel hull Ted Hood firefly.

I have a hood stowaway mast. You lose some sail area without having a positive roach. The sail is cut a bit flatter for easy of rolling, but you still can control the draft with the halyard and outhaul. You can tweak it. A major advantage is the infinite ability to control the amount of sail area, and the "reefed" shape is better than most slab reefing. I was a bit concerned when I got it, but now love it.
@Happ4652 жыл бұрын
@@highnotesailing5843 I have sailed with a boat with an in mast furling system. A 41 ft boat while cruising for over 3 weeks. I found their is very little shape so you cannot go to weather. The other negatives are you need to be on a certain tack (depending on how it is set up) when you reef or roll it up at the end of the day. There are also many people who have had them jam. That’s a problem in heavy air only though. Yes they are smaller also. From my experience I will go with regular slab reefing. If I want it easy I can run the halyard and single reef lines back to the cockpit.
@highnotesailing58432 жыл бұрын
@@Happ465 What you say about rolling up in one direction is not true for the Hood Stowaway mast. There are big differences between different furling masts. I had slab reefing on a Bristol 43.3, doing 5 bermuda races on her and now a Baltic 51 with the stowaway mast, having done 2 Bermuda races and a Marblehead Halifax. I have no issue going to weather with this mast. The cut of the sail is also important. Slab reefing is more fool proof no doubt. The fouling or jamming of the sail on a Hood system seems less to me than on a friends Selden. The opening is wider on the Hood. The issue really is when you are taking out the sail, to maintain a lot of tension on the outhaul and moderate tension when furling. On most new big boats, furling masts are very popular.
@Happ4652 жыл бұрын
@@highnotesailing5843 Every furling main should be reefed on the same tack. The reason is when the sail gets wound up it will wind to one side. If you wind on the opposite tack you will be rubbing the sail against the opening. It’s true on all furling masts. Next time you go out furl it on starboard tack. The sail should enter the on the port side. If it wind on the starboard tack should reef on port. Look and you’ll quickly see this. It is true about all furling masts. It’s inherent in the design.

Pretty nice boat. But the new boats clearly have a better design, like some 38 feet boats have the same space. But still has a very nice and detailed interior!

Really depends on her condition so a survey would be your best guide. The sails, the engine and electronics can all be pricey elements so a survey can help tell you how much more investment it might need beyond the initial purchase price. Best of luck
