That is Awesomes, The quickest way is to note the difference is to spot the wheel and whether it is in front of the mizzen (yawl) or behind (ketch) thats the easiest but its actually in front of the rudder shaft but you cant spot that as easily also the ketch mizzen will appear taller relative to the height of the main mast closer to 2/3rd the height as opposed to a yawl at only about 25% So glad you are enjoying our channel

Again I love the toe rail embedded chocks. I have seen too many chocks screwed down on the top of the toe rails shatter the toe rails at the worst possible time for my liking. I love embedded toe rail chocks. Nice toe rail height there too. The bright work is gorgeous. Deck fittings are rather well top shelf. Table is looking perfect but for the lack of fiddles. Sole looks on camera to be solid wood, not laminate beyond perhaps the surface. I would have enjoyed you flipping over that sole piece you pulled to get a better look at that. Her condition is rather incredible from what I can see through the camera. Hand holds overhead are preferable here but the drip rails,,, whatever would easily suffice. The high gloss interior wood finish is a bit off putting here. I would rather a satin finish. The price is not too out of line IMHO but when stacked up against like a Shannon 43 well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. Yawls do not put me off at all compared to a ketch. In fact there is more room for a solar panel array that is not as shaded so much like on a ketch sooooo, a few points on that. For me you have to go rather deep to find a boat of that size I would consider over a Shannon 43. I wish you had spent a bit more time on the interior and the keel on this one though. To me anything over 40' = 3 cabins. V-berth filler would be a must have for me. Yeah, all those electrics at the companion way is not a plus. The deck fittings appear to be superior to most. Slim beam to me is a plus for performance,,,,,,not so much for luxurious comfort. Better sea ride though. Her pricing isn't far off my mark though despite her incredible attributes I think the same money put into a similarly kept Shannon 43 (if one can be found) would be a better investment despite the performance hit that might entail. Chart table was a bit small. Most want a forward facing chart table. To me that's nothing. There must be a boatload of room in the lazarette. Not even a 1/4 berth? That was not evident in the video. The keel to me would have been most better understood had you spent a bit more time on it. 4" or more high grade latex foam would be a must have for me on those cushions. It appears to me that there is an aft cabin as pr the hatch spray hood behind the cockpit.
@YachtHunters2 жыл бұрын
there is a Shannon 43 not far from me for less it's all in the eye and mind of the viewer as to what turns them on and where they plan to sail and with whom and why ...a lot of good observations here

This restoration was a labor of love by the owner and well executed by Hinkley. Some of the feedback is correct from a financial perspective this is a tough sell. From an artistic perspective is is simply gorgeous. Hopefully the right buyer comes along. We did a similar restoration to our 1977, 36ft Jarvis Newman downeast power boat. We recieve positive remarks about how beautiful she is. Hallelujah (the boat) was one of the boats of the year in Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors and last November she was featured in Soundings Magazine. We will never recoup the cost of renovations but the positive comments we receive are worth a lot to us as was preserving a classic. We always look back when we leave her at the mooring on the way to the dock.
@jeffcanar72942 жыл бұрын
Right. To me, this was a passion project of the original owner. The only person this boat makes sense for is the person who didn't grow up sailing but came to it later in life, never owned a boat but is competent enough to own their own now, rich enough that they've decided on a brand new 40-45 Beneteau (or some such thing), but can be steered to this instead. And you convince them that this boat is way better built, will outlast them, and will be a head-turner in a way that is not true of the Beneteau. That person is out there, and this is the boat I push them towards. It may not have all the creature comfort of newer boats, but the person I've described is going to be a day sailor, and doesn't need all that stuff. This is the boat to bring a small party, impress your friends, have folks go by yelling "beautiful boat" all day long, and then pull in to the club, for more of the same dockside.

Remarkable restoration but for a 1965 sailboat $325,000 is absurd. However, in ten years she will depreciate to a little more than a normal Pearson 41 is selling for. They not are not cars, you can't put them in a garage, drive a few miles and action them off in 10 years. Only classic wooden sailboats have a following. You can purchase a lot more sailboat for $325,000.
@markzieg35932 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. The other $300k boats Captain Q has featured offer much better value and are more interesting, to be sure. For a 1965 that doesn’t have a sought after pedigree, I think the seller would be lucky to get half of what they are asking.

Well, the checkbook is out and the wife held her tongue! However, she doesn't want to SAIL it, she wants to donate it to a museum! Arggghhhh- I can't WIN! What a tasty treat she is, and- color me crazy, but- she looks very familiar? Perhaps it's the design, perhaps its the lines, but, methinks she spent her entire life in the waters of Northern New England, oh say between Vinal Haven & the Long Island Sound? Sadly, she'll never look as good as she does right now- just add water! Hahaha- a lovely lass is she! Thank you for such eye candy (and a lovely restoration). Good on Hinckley for doing it. I always wonder if they (Hinckley) say 'No, not enough pedigree' or 'No, not well enough designed' or 'No, she would've come apart in the 1st blow' or not pretty enough pieces to restore...I guess if there are enough zeros in the checkbook....Not my issue!

Ran-day and Madeline Albright? Oh, yes I’m intrigued. How about the “Six Degrees of Separation” from Mr. Ran Day? It’s a beautiful boat. I’d sell my house and go live in a condom-inium just to have her! I’d live aboard 10 months a year. Cheers, gentlemen. (you high society folks!)

It definitely is a beautiful boat with an incredible refit/restoration by Hinkley, but I would have a hard justifying $325K for a 59 year old boat that would be comfortable for 1 couple when you could buy a modern boat just a few years old for the same price that has exponentially more usable interior volume.

A beautiful restoration of a beautiful boat although I do have to question the wisdom of putting that much money is an almost 60 year old boat. If this boat and the Dutch built 42' steel Puffin sailed into a harbor at the same time it would be a close contest to determine which boat was indeed the CYNOSURE. Both are similar in that they are about the same length and about the same price but have otherwise nothing else in common except that they are both great boats. Excellent find...as usual.

Two different original design concepts Both will work equally well for their intended uses Inshore and offshore

Nice antique….but couldn’t stop comparing this deal to the $349k Puffin 42 reviewed a few months ago.

A follow up for those who don't understand the situation. This is like restoring a 1936 Bentley Le Mans car.. An object de art. Not merely a boat but a Rembrandt. Truly not for everyone and admittedly not super practical. Dollars spent even if only 500,000 vs ask is reasonable. Look at the price of a new Hinckley 42(?) Daysailor.

Good question! that is an international rule 12-meter boat designed by Charles Morgan to contend for the Americas cup She didn't make the cut but now owned by delightful couple who take paid daysails out of Newport RI all summer "heritage"

What's the difference in a Plumb Bow versus a Slanted Bow in all major aspects?
@YachtHunters2 жыл бұрын
plum bows have been around for hundreds of years and used in Dutch sailing vessels and early euro/American yacht designs It wasn't until yacht design became an industry providing boats with hull designs for racing and having to deal with "rules" that the keels were cut away and this gave way to the spoon or curved bows . These boats generated additional water line length when heeled and fit the rules . They also created designs pleasing to the eye. but like dress styles what goes around often returns . today in the new world of floating Ikea condo featureless floating dormitories , the designers have caved to volume and speed .Thy now produce waterline designs that match overall length and Gain a knot or two of speed but at the expense of creating unmemorable vessels by the handful to voyagers that will rarely leave the mooring ...don't get me started i guess i did hey thanks for watching
