Home washed away in Kentucky flood waters

NOTE: No sound on video. It was taken in Breathitt County, Kentucky as the eastern portion of the state is hit with extreme flooding this week.

GOD BLESS THESE PEOPLE! We live in Waverly TN and one year ago we suffered the same historic flood . 17 inches fell in a day .. Took almost our whole city out .. People lost their lives, homes family .. There were many children that died that day :( Sending prayer !

I'm sorry for your loss. I just wish people would stop using the term "historic". Since 1958, the amount of precipitation falling during heavy rainstorms has increased by 27 percent in TN. As the earth is warming larger rainfalls are becoming the new norm in this area and people are going to need to adjust.

This is heartbreaking I actually seen flooding back in 2011 ish when hurricane Irene hit the northeast I lived in the white mountains and wow the damage and I volunteered in Vermont to help with there clean up and wow was that hard work it’s not easy cleaning up heavy mud with all kinds of debris in it . Stay strong Kentucky be kind to others help each other out and you will be thriving again sooner than later god bless

This is what happens when people live next to a river or in a known flood zone. It floods. I lost my home in a flood because I wanted to live next to the river, big mistake! I will never do that again.

So true. I live in central Ky. Our town has a river that flows along side of it. All the older businesses are on the “safer” side of the road. The newer businesses built next to the river on the east side of the road. Every year those buildings flood. Sometimes twice a year. You’d think… 🤪 common sense would say, gee, maybe I shouldn’t open up a business here. But sadly, nope. Some people have zero common sense.

That's why they call it Troublesome Creek... that Creek has always been known to flood and with rerouted waterways, anything's possible besides its in a food zone right there.. that Creek used to get 3X's what it is now... not deep enough anymore to contain the water during hard rains.. causing it to flood that valley..never build in a water bed.. you'll get wet.. This is an absolute disaster that could be prevented in the future if the local government state and other states started working together all of this extra water could be pumped to areas where it is dry in this nation like lake Mead and lake Powell or even down to Texas where right now they are in a major drought the leaders of this nation needs to seriously start looking at these situations you have to be smarter than what you are dealing with while all of these insurance companies are making billions of dollars every year off of profit with major tax breaks and the government billing them out every year but they do nothing to do something about the flooding and something about the drought why are they not pumping stations why are they not sending this water to different areas that need it this could be prevented the federal government the state and local governments need to start working together to prevent the flooding it happens every year all up and down the Mississippi River and all across this nation we need solutions and we need our leaders to start working together and stop arguing on party lines start coming up with solutions to these natural disasters that could be solved or at least reduced by smart engineering and well thought out and planning

Pardon me, for this lengthy, and poorly written comment I wrote while short on time! ..BUT IF you think flooding is a new thing? I'm not saying climate changing doesn't exist, but I am saying that everything with time, especially several thousands of years of time! Will change things, it's not that people deny climate change! It's the fact people find it ridiculous that some people actually believe mankind can match mother nature and reverse it significantly enough to change the course! It's not a bad quality or not respectable that people care about the earth, it's just a lot people are using "climate change strategies" as a way to get rich, while being incredibly hypocritical! Like, John Kerry look at the air travel the dude does, while telling everyone how ashamed they should be by pollution! Telling people to live without using coal as a way for energy! But failing to actually create the solution FOR EVERYONE to be able to live with solar panels, and having jobs for the millions that will lose their job by ending coal! You can't stand on climate change, and also say you are the party for the poor and working class! But turning your back on them because they're no longer valuable to you! You don't treat people like that, it's disgusting! You absolutely cannot have a private jet, causing the same "pollution" that you're supposedly telling others not to do!! People are missing, hundreds of homes destroyed, millions in damage, I haven't had water sense it all started and lost power for 24hrs I'm one of the lucky ones seeing the comments on here the pure Hate spewing out of people I wonder if u would say this to the mother that just pulled her drowned kids out or the son who packed all his family out on his back only to go back to a house in time to watch his grandparents get washed away and the home collapse in a wave of water think about this before you spew your hateful comments.
