Oh my Gosh guys!🏔️🫂🤍😶‍🌫️ I cannot begin to explain how enormously magical that was for me!💙🌸 Those crampons are the only boots to wear when getting to the pike!👏👏👏 Broad Crag looked SO scary with the huge chunky block boulders😱 And you two made it to 3,209' above sea level- WHAT!!! Those views were endless, an amazing viewpoint one remembers for the rest of their lives. I know I will🙏 Thank you so very much for this experience💓 Forever grateful for your energy and love🌹🌼😊

Wow, thank you so much Lisa for watching that one. We certainly got very fortunate with the weather that day. To have all that lovely ice but clear sunny skies is a very rare thing indeed! Sadly we have too few days like that in England, even in Scotland (which might as well be Mars the length of time it takes to get there on our roads) is seeing less and less snow. Hopefully one winter we will travel to somewhere with more guaranteed snow and ice and so some more hikes like that one! Have an awesome weekend! Lots of love Nick and Jill ♥️♥️

wow Stu, yes crampons are key. i have embarrassingly done Scafell Pike previously in the same conditions wearing ice grips id bought from the pound shop. got all the up but on my descent the tiny, cheap icy grips were all worn off and where the path crosses the falls several times it was black ice. i lost my footing and thinking it would be best to land on my bottom i did that. a broken coccyx was the result and me spending the next couple of months not able to sit down again! lessons learned..

Yes it was a once in a lifetime type of day. We’ve done it in all weathers, including ice on several occasions but never had the expansive views, great weather and the summit to ourselves! It was the perfect climb. We mostly climb it from Seathwaite Farm and on a couple of mad occasions we have climbed it from Langdale Valley which means you incur Bow Fell as well (not too pleasant unless your bagging Wainwrights). We have never done it from Wastwater, thats going on our list for sure! Yeah the last few miles were pitch black but we have great torches and always the garmin etrex 32x if we run into any trouble. People also do Scafell via the Corridor Route, this is something else we haven’t tried but fancy. I guess we have at least two more ascents of Scafell Pike in our future! 👍

@@GENerationXplorers Oh my that doesn't sound fun at all. I suppose you don't do this type of hiking without suffering some sort of pitfalls as it is dangerous. Good to hear you are properly prepared now. Be safe my friend.

@@BackroadExploits you mention blizzards, i forgot to mention the whiteout we got stuck in with only an iphone for guidance. Thanks for watching this one Simon, it was one of those once in a lifetime days re. the weather and experience. I doubt, no matter how hard I try, will ever get another quite like it. Its an effort just finding snow in England let alone conditions like this! The crampons make a huge difference, ive done Scafell Pike before in icy conditions and wearing cheaper crampons, the studs fell apart on my descent and i fell on my behind and broke my coccyx. Its not particularly painful to have a broken coccyx when your walking or standing but sitting down and driving is near impossible for six weeks! Definitely the right crampons after that! 👍👍

Walked the same route several year ago the snow line was very impressive and deep ... we were considering coming back down as we were at the junction of turning right to Sprinkling Tarn and noticed 4 guys walking down with purpose towards us ... they were Royal Marines just popping out for a quick amble but decided to turn round as it got a touch more dangerous ahead ... so that decided for us to turn right and back down. Not sure if you were wearing Jeans with the customary fashion vagrant look 🤔 glad it didn't rain or snow for you 👍
@GENerationXplorers
@GENerationXplorers 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we were very lucky with the weather that day, rain can certainly make it miserable as once your clothes get wet and then the temperature drops your core plummets quickly. We do carry lots of spare thermal tops and long johns but we didnt need them on that day. Whiteouts can be a real pain, we had one on our Helvellyn climb and we made the sensible decision to not complete the ascent. We keep a fully charged Garmin Etrex 32x on us at all times. It has a 30 hour interchangeable battery life and works at the coldest temperatures on the planet. Its makes all the difference in the snow. We also find that Grivel crampons are worth every penny you spend on them. You see people doing it without spikes or with cheapo ones and i wonder how they survive. The last two hours of our descent was in pitch black but we also carry military grade torches, they lit up the entire mountain, that combined with the etrex make any mountain situation less problematic!

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Yes that bridge deserves a lot more attention than we can give it, im afraid! Stockley Bridge is something we just fly over at the start of the epic walk, from what we can research, This historic packhorse bridge was constructed in 1540, but partially demolished after floods in 1969. It’s actually designated as a grade one listed ‘building’ because there are so few such old bridges in the area. Goods like salt, wool and charcoal were transported by pack animals through the Lakeland valleys on mountain passes like this for centuries. Id love to see it covered in more detail, with perhaps historic footage or photographs? As for our video we just flew up and down, barely able to do it justice! The music is divisive, your in good company with people that hate it, for us it feels more inspirational, a bit faster pace to get peeps up that mountain too! As a viewer id probably prefer Celtic music flowing over me whilst i take in the magical views. Horses for courses i guess! Sincerest thanks again for your comments, all taken onboard i promise! 😍👍

@GENerationXplorers 2 жыл бұрын
I could have been wearing thermal pants underneath! (I wasn’t). To be fair my legs don’t suffer the cold. As long as my torso and extremities, feet and hands, stay warm, my overall temperature will be constant. The biggest problem was continually taking gloves off to operate the camera and get shots. By the time we got to the summit getting frostbite in my camera hand was of increasing concern! Going forward id look into how to increase battery life in sub zero temperature and how to operate a camera without taking off your gloves!
@Andrew-dp3jm
@Andrew-dp3jm 2 жыл бұрын
@@GENerationXplorers If you keep the device you want to keep charged against your body heat that is oneway of doing it. You may not suffer the cold but the problem with jeans are they dont dry once wet and become very heavy. I have been in low minus conditions( warmer than you were in) and the moisture on the outside of my hardshell has frozen. So if you can imagine if your jeans became wet then the windchill hit them it would be like walking around with 2 blocks of ice around your legs... I gurantee youll feel the cold on your legs then... If you can afford grivel crampons im sure you can afford a pair of softshell trousers😉
@GENerationXplorers
@GENerationXplorers 2 жыл бұрын
Very good point! I actually did Helvellyn and got completely soaked the day prior so those jeans were my only choice on the day. No excusing it though, i should pack enough pants for the number of days im away planning to hike. Plus when jeans get soaking wet they invariably soak down to the sock and gators cant prevent your socks from getting wet. Once your feet get wet and cold its game over! 👍
