Thank you so much for doing this video. My Grandma did this on the edges of baby blankets and ladies handkerchiefs. Grandma had arthritis and wasn't able to show me how to do this. Bless you for bringing this to KZbin.

It's very nice to hear of your memories of your grandmother's tatting. Will you be picking it up? :-)

The other thought on counting the join as a stitch: it takes up the same space as the picot. If you count the join as a half stitch, then you would need to count the picot as a half stitch.
@11Frivole Жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree with you! The picot itself is between stitches but what makes a picot is the first half of the next stitch.

I absolutely love your videos, they are so clear for the video and your explanations are fantastic. I totally get your style. Please keep them coming. Also, the knocking is so faint, really not noticeable ... sounds like someone is knocking on your door.

I've mastered the up and down joins, but I'm getting really confused with trying to join more than one picot to a ring, because one always seems to end up twisted when I tighten the ring. Is there some rule for joining to other elements while building a ring??
@11Frivole Жыл бұрын
Apologies for taking so long to reply but I was away. If you keep using the same join as you are making your ring, your picots should not be twisted but it's a bit hard to advise you without seeing how you are making your joins. If the picot is not twisted as you are making the join, then it should not be twisted after your close the ring.
@RivvyWritesAndMakes Жыл бұрын
@11Frivole I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. They're not twisted as I join them but when I tighten the ring they twist. I think maybe I'm trying to be too clever, like I follow where I think the curve is going to go. So joining to a picot on a ring on the left, I place the picot over the thread with the work facing upwards and join, but then if the same ring joins also to a picot on a ring on the right, I'll join downwards because that's the way the threads would be travelling. I'm probably just making it way more complicated than I need to 😅 Hope you had some nice time away.

Which thread do you use??? My thread broke when chain get longer

Hello Saman, I do mention it at the beginning of the video that I am using size 10 thread in this video so it's a little easier to see than my usual size 20. :-)

Great tutorial! Could you please elaborate on what to do with joins and front and back side tatting? If I’m joining a chain to a previous picot, first, would it be a lock join, and second, if I’m tatting from the back (as for all chains I believe) if I make the second half of the double stitch to complete the join, do I start counting stitches from this second half so that the front has complete double stitches? Thanks!!
@11Frivole2 жыл бұрын
Hi Julienne, for your first question about a lock join, it depends on where you are in your work, the position of your shuttles and what you are joining to what. So not necessarily a lock join, it could be a regular join when joining a chain to a previous picot. And for your second question: if you are working from the back you would make your join in reverse order too so it would be second half on the join and first half to complete it and then carry on the chain. I hope it all makes sense. :-)

Thank you very much but when we join picot with 2 differents colors with this method is not look nice. How we do? Sorry I ask a lot but I really love frivolity and I want to learn for Making nice. Merci
@11Frivole3 жыл бұрын
Hello, yes you are correct that when working with two different colours, this will show a colour "blip" - is that what you mean when you say it doesn't look nice? I have a video that demonstrates my method for avoiding this blip, it can be seen here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enXRZWyklrGEgZI (I'm sorry the sound is rather low, it's one of my old videos which I should probably remake). See if that helps?
@christinaastreha2 жыл бұрын
I'm a little confused.. When you tat from the back side you start with the second stitch first followed by the first half of a stitch.But when it comes to using the down joint you complete it with the second half of a stitch(like you would do on the front side), but then, doesn't that mess up your reverse-stitch tatting you follow on the back side? So, what do you do? Do you still execute the join as you show and then start again with the second half of a stitch to continue with your reverse-stitch tatting(so you would have two continuous second half stitches)? Because here, in the video, you don't apply the down join by working from the back of your work, if I'm not mistaken Am I getting sth wrong? :)

Hello Christina, sorry I got a bit busy and have been a bit slower than usual at replying to my channel comments! If you're making a really simple edging then you can attach as you go but otherwise, I find it easier to tat the edging matching it against the sides of my hanky and then you can more easily space it correctly so that everything is consistent when you attach it afterwards.
