No they are plastic and although I'm not generally a plastic fan, I think it's great for shuttles as it is so lightweight.

Well you started off great but then when you reversed or flipped your work you got confusing. You didn’t show what you had n your hand and I don’t know why you call for three stitches and then three more why not just call a total of six oh well
@11Frivole2 күн бұрын
Hi Don, when I reverse work and then make a chain, it has 3 stitches, 1 picot and 3 more stitches so that's why I don't say 6 as it's actually 3-3.

Could you make a video on closing a normal ring? I keep getting it stuck
@11Frivole3 күн бұрын
Hello, not sure what you mean by a "normal ring"? Are your stitches not sliding on the core thread and therefore you are not able to close the ring?
@emilyscott210911 күн бұрын
I love your video and that your actually doing it while explaining it. But im a beginner and only tried tatting once last night and again this morning. I have it down how to do the knot first towards me and then away from me to do one full "stitch". (I don't know the terminology yet.) I know how to do the pico which is knot towards me and don't pull tight then finish with knotting away from you. Is knotting forward and backward to make one full knot/stitch considered a chain? You do so good in your video its just too fast to see your knot/hand movements.
@11Frivole3 күн бұрын
Hi Emily, I like how you describe the knots as "towards me" and "away from me"... we just say 1st half and second half (of a double stitch). Whether it's a ring or a chain depends if you are using just one shuttle or a shuttle and ball or two shuttles. A chain requires two threads whereas a ring can be made with just one. I don't know if this helps or if it's more confusing!

I do not have a video on that but it's a good suggestion! To wind two shuttles continuously, you wind the first one, then pull lengths of thread from the ball before cutting and then wind that onto the other shuttle.

Good evening Thank you for the useful explanation I need if you can help me to make a knitted dress for my 5-year-old granddaughter using Fair Isle But I can't read the pattern and I'm not interested because I won't do this job professionally it's just a hobby Because I will start from the top and when I make a sweater or jacket or dress for my granddaughters I start from the top and divide using the men's method but I need to know how to work incrementally in this method and I am restricted to a specific pattern and a number that depends on the pattern So is it possible for you to help me? I will be grateful and thankful to you
@11FrivoleАй бұрын
Hello Fatima, your question sounds a bit complex, yes it can be a bit more tricky to decrease and increase in Fair Isle but I would just add the stitches following the pattern and then maybe adjust by a few stitches if you want to make the pattern match all the way around once you get to the required number of stitches. I think it will require some maths! If it's a pattern repeat with lots of stitches, it will be more difficult than if it's a small pattern repeat. I hope I understood your question!

@11FrivoleАй бұрын
@@fatimaal-zuhairi7373 Hi Fatima, I'm sorry I'm not a "specialist" of Fair Isle really. I enjoy knitting it but just follow patterns rather than design them myself. I've always knit Fair Isle garments from the bottom up rather than from the neck down so you start your garment at full width and can match the number of stitches to the pattern repeats, you then shape the neck by casting off a few in the middle and then continuing casting off each side until the opening is the right size as you go up the shoulders. I'm afraid I do not have any links to videos, you'd have to do a search to see if you find what you're looking for.

It makes a lot of sense to make the tree all in one pass. I've had bad experience with split chains before, I was making them too floppy. But it's worth practising. :)
@11FrivoleАй бұрын
Oh yes, for me, if I can make anything in one pass, it's always my first choice! And yes, I think it's easy to make split chains too floppy as you say. I think you have to aim for a bit of bare thread that seems nearly just a bit too short in a way and it will be tight to make the stitches fit but that way the second half of the split chain will be nice and firm like the first half.
