The fact that Vietnam is basically an Infantry or air mobile type country with dense jungle and mountain, the ACAV, fast moving, motorized/mechanized regiment was sent there anyway but mostly deployed into flat and plain areas in Vietnam, unlike the II and III Corps areas. Even though my Uncle served with the 11th ACAV but during the 1980s and deployed to West Germany, he said that there were few officers and NCOs that served during Vietnam War. The Blackhorse was immediately redeployed to Europe after the Vietnam War.

TheDonkeyFLOPPER Their reunions are great. In memory of David L. Narrow, second tour Vietnam Vet served with 11ACR from '70-'71. Deceased 5-31-16. He loved all his brothers in this unit and was able to attend a reunion in Louisville Ky. (held at the Gault House) as well as a later one in Texas. He was thrilled to see you all again and deeply touched. He spoke of you often in his later years-finally. Much respect to all of you and thank you for your service.

The war probably could have been over by 69 if rolling thunder had never stopped. I dont think the us gov really wanted to end the war. Frankly, we could have eventually bombed north vietnam into submission, but there would have been a too many civilian casualties, and then the outcry from home for killing civilians etc.. Instead they stopped and tried to talk while letting nv recoup, and drag out guys in for another 7 years. THen what do we do in 72, linebacker, brought them back again. Ironic

We are the Blackhorse Troopers, the finest in the land, We fight for right and use our might to free our fellow man. Our girls wear yellow ribbons, as pretty as can be, They’re troopers too, and loyal through: We’re in the Cavalry. Chorus: Allons, Allons, The Pride Of Cavalry, The Best Damn Regiment That You Will Ever See. In Nineteen Hundred Zero One, the regiment was born, Our destiny to serve and fight on far-off foreign shores. The Philippines and Cuba, our troopers won their spurs, Then chased the bandit Villa, Southern borders to secure. Allons, Allons, The Pride Of Cavalry The Best Damn Regiment That You Will Ever See. Parading our black horses on the beach at Monterey, Then sadly trading chargers in for mounts that don’t eat hay. The great crusade in Europe, now iron cavalry, We rolled across fields of France to win the victory. Allons, Allons, The Pride Of Cavalry The Best Damn Regiment That You Will Ever See. In Vietnam, once more we fought, in monsoon and in mud, Long years of war, though others quit, no Blackhorse troopers would. The Blackhorse patch meant courage: we piled on fast and hard and left unbowed for Germany to stand freedom’s guard. Allons, Allons, The Pride Of Cavalry The Best Damn Regiment That You Will Ever See. Patrols along the lonely trace of freedom’s far frontier Our vigilance rewarded after years of sweat and tears. November 11th, in Eighty-Nine, the Iron Curtain falls With the Blackhorse Troopers there to witness liberty for all. Allons, Allons, The Pride Of Cavalry The Best Damn Regiment That You Will Ever See. The Philippines to Al-Kuwait, in jungle or in sand, The Regiment will be there when our country makes a stand. Our guidons raised in honor, our glasses held on high, Allons and on toward victory, in glory, live and die. Allons, Allons, The Pride Of Cavalry The Best Damn Regiment That You Will Ever See. Once the protector of Europe, now we train the world, Down Langford Lake though Whale Gap, our victory is assured. Masters of maneuver, we know the desert sand, The Bluefor comes 12 times a year, to make a futile stand. Allons, Allons, The Pride Of Cavalry The Best Damn Regiment That You Will Ever See

smonyboy Ye public opinion on the war was in the trash we couldn't have stayed even if we wanted to. My people love to brag about how they kicked out the Americans but we left because well there was no end in sight the people saw that to they wanted to bring their boys home and to stop the killing. So the government had to give them what they wanted. There was no pearl harbor or 9/11 for Vietnam. It had no public support.

Not quite. We left because of politics. But it’s awesome some stuck up yuppy would try to bully people over the net. Most from the poorest neighborhoods who were drafted to war. And fought their ass off. And still came home with pride. Must be nice looking down on people.
