The Iowa Wolves dropped its final road game of the Showcase portion of the schedule losing at the Grand Rapids Gold, 123-102, on Sunday afternoon Van Andel Arena.
Trevor Keels was the top scorer for Iowa (3-9) with 18 points, two-way Daishen Nix was next with 16 points and Timberwolves’ assignment players Leonard Miller and Josh Minott each scored 15 points.
Two-way Braxton Key led Grand Rapids (2-10) with a game-high 33 points behind a 14-of-17 shooting performance from the floor. Two-way Colin Gillespie posted a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 17 assists.
The two teams traded baskets much of the first quarter as each team held leads at different times. Grand Rapids grabbed the lead for good late in the first with a dominant 14-4 closing run to the period for a 37-25. Iowa struggled from the three-point line in the game going just 7-of-33, including making just three in the first two quarters.
Grand Rapids was hot from beyond the arc making 19 in the win. Andrew Funk led the Gold with five threes and Walter Ellis knocked down four off the bench.
