Thank you Bernie. Us Kentuckians are taking care of our Kentuckian neighbors whose lives and homes have been devastated. Many other states are coming into Kentucky to help which we are so grateful for. I was fortunate that the tornado lifted before it got to my house or we would have also been in the path of destruction. It was a horrific night of fear and anxiety as we hunkered down in the basement. It was just a continuous line of severe storms that came through, one after another for almost five hours straight!

Thank you for showing that the tornado completely decimated places OTHER than Mayfield. There has been so little coverage of all the other places that were completely destroyed, and those people deserve attention too.... and need to know that people are thinking of and praying for them too! All the big media is all about Mayfield, Mayfield, Mayfield.... this tornado was quite likely on the ground all the way from Arkansas to Louisville and had destruction along it's entire path. People need to know this.

@Amy Davis I live here in Kentucky. I'm glad there are other people showing other places as well. However, I understand why the media is showing mostly Mayfield. It was the MOST impacted with loss of human/animal life and not to mention the businesses. We still have no idea how many people are still uncounted for. Mayfield was COMPLETELY wiped away. That's why they're showing it more than anywhere else. Thank you for your concern and support!

@@patreaedison1059 Maybe it's just my emotions getting the best of me, as I recall other catastrophic tornadoes. I live in Oklahoma, and several years ago I used to be a storm chaser. I've been lucky enough to never lose my home or community, but I've been in the aftermath of several that have. I know firsthand how much of a difference it makes when the victims of storms like these know that the country is standing behind them and rallying their support. By "difference" I mean.... a psychological difference. I also know what they feel when they look around at the total destruction around them, but because they didn't have as many lives lost, they get "forgotten" or dismissed as not being as important. There were other communities in THIS tornado that did get nearly completely wiped out (Dawson Springs, for example)... last I heard there were 13 dead there and over 100 still unaccounted for. Where is the media attention for that? Another 12 deaths in Bremen.... but all that's really getting major attention is Mayfield. I'm not taking away from that absolute carnage that happened in Mayfield.... and certainly not all the lives lost... we've been watching that for 2 days and it's utterly heart-breaking. I was somewhat relieved to hear the official report at the Candle Factory is now 8 dead, and only 8 still unaccounted for... it's still HORRIBLE, because even ONE death is one too many, but it's much better than we thought it would be from the earlier reports. Anyway, I'm rambling now. You said you live in Kentucky... I hope with all my heart that you are safe and sound where you are! I grew up in Ohio and we showed horses quite a lot down in Kentucky and I always loved it there.

Thank you so much Jessie for your kind compassion. It was a horribly, stressful night not knowing whether the tornado would destroy your home and life that night. I’m in Missouri where one of the tornadoes went through. My home escaped any damage thankfully but the community next door wasn’t so lucky. I feel like it should be a requirement at this point to have some kind of either basement or underground shelter on each property or apartment complex for these cases. No the worst was the tristate tornado of 1925. This outbreak may be the third after Xenia Ohio in the 1974 super outbreak. Highest wind speeds was in 1999 Bridge Creek OK where 318 mph winds were recorded. Any tornado is bad if it comes to your house. Most of this damage looks like F2-3 in a few places F4. What shocks me as a storm chaser is how complete the destruction. The debris is small and widely scattered. Only trained on the ground NOAA people will know the true ferocity. Construction types and materials can make a big difference between some roof damage and down to the slab.

Not even close to the worst outbreak. April 3rd 1974 and April 27th 2011 come immediately to mind as being worse. In 2011 Alabama and Mississippi had about 5 tornadoes that were as bad or worse than the Mayfield tornado. The 1974 outbreak also had several that bad as well. There are others too. April 1920 Deep South Outbreak. 1932 Deep South outbreak. May 1999 Oklahoma outbreak. However, you might be correct to call it the worst December outbreak in US history. Very unusual ferocity for an outbreak this time of year. I’m wishing the best for the states effected by these storms.

the complete survey of this storm is going to take a while, but it will be fascinating to read. Strength along its path... maximum width... where was it EF2, 3, 4, or even 5?? If the path is the projected 200+ miles (and even if it's not), it's going to be a truly historic tornado. Absolutely devastating.

3:50 perfect example of why a meteorologist would tell you to shelter here if you had no storm shelter or basement. It's the only part of the house that survived above grade. I can hear James Spann's voice in my head, "you need seek shelter, if possible, get below ground. If you can't get to an underground shelter, you're going to need to get to the lowest level of your home, find a room closest to the center of the house with no exterior windows, and put as many walls between you and outside as you can."

@@noahbodhi I was a litle over an hour north/northwest of this line of storms and was also under a tornado warning. Problem was, only 1 of 3 people in my family received a warning to their phone for some reason, but luckily it didn't amount to anything. Makes you realize to be as diligent as possible about the weather when you know it could get bad like this past weekend. I had even been keeping up with the news on the storms all night and still missed a local warning. Definitely getting a weather radio now.

I read it traveled up to 227 miles (apparently longest tornado distance record if confirmed). Missouri, Arkansas worth attention too. I read the same thing one Tornado traveled approx 220+ mikes on the ground. Also saw a couple storm chasers videos, that had to be at least an EF5 if not bigger. The storm chasers videos also mentioned the distance it was on the ground, but they did not follow it through all those miles. There are a few articles mentioning the distance traveled. There were lots of Tornados across Many States from Friday through Sunday. The Most troubling thing I am NOT seeing in any of the Videos from Local, and Main Stream news & from the Public sharing shot videos. Absolutely No Poluce, Firemen, Ambulances, FEMA, or any Disaster Recovery Workers or vehicles on any of the sites. Lots of people Uniting from across the Nation go into these areas to help out, but zero from the Government, and yes I was in one of the States Hit. Not as bad as Kentucky and some of the other States, but lots of damage was done here as well. Power was restored Sunday morning here. But not all areas in this State are restored yet. But others States got hit harder than we did, I think. I say that as I have noticed the Main Stream Media is barely covering this at all. Guess they are covering for the Governments lack of action on this disaster. 0ay cl8se attention to hundreds of videos. No Emergency vehicles, no FEMA or Red Cross, No National Guard, nothing. Good thing the People are uniting across the nation and traveling to these areas to help out where they can. As the Government and disaster recovery organization's are nowhere to be seen. Once everyone recovers from the shock of what we just went through, there are going to be a lot of questions for the Government and the disaster recovery organizations and agencies. I can understand Police and firemen as they may have been taken out like everyone else, but the other organizations and agencies and Government have no excuses. They knew, as we did, that bad storms were on the way.

Nothing can withstand the ferocity of a wind like thisone(s) had!! Even brick, concrete block, or poured cement would not totally alleviate this damage. Yes, basements might have helped...if you aren't crushed by collapsing walls && floors( debris). If this hadn't been an evening & late night out break, that may have helped also. Little advanced time and or inadequate warnings only added to the catastrophe. Possibly stronger construction & inground(buried) shelters may have to become the norm. That damage doesnt look right to me. Tornadoes pick up boards and other light objects from a house and throw them great distances from the destroyed home. Unfortunately , one doesnt see that type of damage in these drone videos from Kentucky. When one looks out onto the lake by the destroyed homes, one does not see any floating boards. These homes look like they were destroyed from some sort of sonic boom from above the homes that caused the walls of the home to collapse. Whatever caused these homes to collapse doesnt seem to have dispersed the remains of the home like a tornado would.
