Speed = constant Velocity = changing (magnitude same, direction changing) Hence a changing velocity means there is acceleration!

but force being normal has no effect on the speed anyway so it doesnt matter how big or small it is speed will still be constant wouldnt it?

The points written below explain it. Force and velocity are both perpendicular to each other therefore the object moves in an arc.
