12 22 17 DJI Phantom 4 Battery Disassemble

12-22-17 Warning Do Not Take a Lithium Battery Apart. It could start on fire. I was curious what was inside a DJI Phantom 4 battery. I had a damaged battery left from a crash so I took it apart to see what was inside. This video is for entertainment purposes only. Your results mat vary. Do something nice for someone today.

I did this to get a look and see what was inside. I don't recommend taking a battery apart. It is risky.

apart from seeing her massacre is a pity, I can guarantee that you first open it without destroying it, I opened mine to change the internal battery pack and then reassembled it, so I know it. Hello

This is my opinion on reusing cells from a damaged battery. I wouldn't do it. In my opinion a battery that has had an impact should be considered to be unstable. I was buying used drone batteries for about $60.00 at the time. My drone cost me $1500.00. If I was using a repaired battery and crashed because of the battery failing I really wouldn't be saving any money. Compare $60.00 to $1500. I also made it a practice to replaced all 4 props after a crash even though some of them looked fine. There again, for $20.00 I am playing it safe as opposed to having a potentially damaged prop brake in flight and lose a $1500.00 drone. I know not everyone shares my opinion but that is the way I do it.

@@OnTheEdgeNow Hi. I mean, I have a crashed battery too. I'm not going to use it for drone. I extracted lipo cells and cut them just like you did. Have 2x 3.3V undamaged. Can I use them with a lipo control circuit and regulator for a 5V 66Wh powerbank? Do they still work fine after cutting them out I mean?

@@brbrbrbrbrbrrb Again this is just my opinion, I treat any crashed lipo battery as compromised and if it were me I would discharge it and recycle it.

There is a possibility of the battery starting on fire. There is also the potential for a spark if the battery is not fully discharged. The smell of the lithium cell itself is very strong. I don't know if it is toxic but I know it didn't do me any good. The reason for the video is to let you see what is inside a battery without taking any risk of harm to yourself. Hope you enjoyed the video and remember, don't do this at home. Let one of us not so bright people take the risk.

The battery pack was damaged in a crash. When my Phantom 4 hit the road the battery flew out and hit on the corner. This caused the battery to start to swell and heat up. I knew when I took this battery apart I was never going to use it again so it was faster to take it apart destructively. If you ever have a crash keep an eye on the battery. They could possibly start on fire.
