Turning my practice time from my last video on Grafix craft plastic into a wispy alcohol ink painting using Tim Holtz - Ranger ink color Eggplant. My air source is a Revlon styling brush hair dryer (on the cool setting) with the brush attachment removed.

I am facinated that the ink just keeps flowing with the alchohol, not much ink needed at all, this is just beautiful. I would love it on my wall. Must have a go at creating something similar.

It is amazing how far you can spread one or two drops of ink, especially the darker colors, just by adding more alcohol. A bottle of ink can go a very long way! 😊💜

Maybe while you’re packing up your supplies, you can make a video of your 5-10 favorite supplies. That would be very helpful for us newbies. Safe travels.

lol Since I just saw this, it's too late for that now, but there's no way I would have had time to do that while I was packing up anyway. Maybe I can do something like that soon, though.

Hi Lorrie, I have learn more from you than any other artist on KZbin. I just destroyed my first bit of art that i really liked with a mixative, as helpful as watching you apply it in this video was I am hoping you could do a video soon explaining a few ways to add and some demos?
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 4 жыл бұрын
I can certainly do that 😃. I have been trying to think of some topics for a few short tutorials I could do, so thank you for that idea! I hate that you feel like you destroyed your painting. I absolutely know that feeling! The metallics are hard to work with. Don’t forget that everyone’s taste is different, too, and that someone else may love what you see as ruined. Lol I rarely love any of my own paintings. I’m always convinced something that looks completely messed up to me (but not to anyone else I show them to) has ruined the painting. We are by far our own worst critics! Keep at it 😃. I will try to get a mixative video done soon. I am glad these videos are helping you learn this style of art! Thank you for watching!

What was that black stick you were using?
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 4 жыл бұрын
That is the back end of an old makeup brush that I had cut down the bristles on to use for extra fine lines. The blunt end of it works great for dabbing at the ink a little bit when I need to steer it into one particular spot. 💜💜

What is that black looking marker you are using in the center?
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 4 жыл бұрын
That is actually an eyeshadow brush that I cut all but a few of the bristles off of. I didn’t have a super fine brush so I just made one lol. I occasionally use the bristle end to paint in fine lines with gold or brass or other metallics and I use the back end of it to tap around on the ink in certain places to spread it out a little if I want a certain place filled in but the ink isn’t spreading good. 😃

How would you compare the Grafix paper versus Yupo? Beautiful painting!
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 5 жыл бұрын
So far I prefer the Grafix plasic over the yupo most of the time. I like that it doesn’t stain if I mess up so I can clean it off and start over. However, sometimes I want that staining in a painting because it adds some depth and difference of color to it. The Ranger inks that I use most of the time don’t separate into different colors on the Grafix plastic like they do on yupo so it really just depends on what I want to do. Lol Not much help, am I? Cost wise the Grafix is by far the better deal. I am using it much more than the yupo right now, mostly for that reason. One of the good things about the Grafix is that it holds up to heat better than the medium weight yupo. The Grafix will buckle a little, but it flattens back out as it cools down. If I overheat yupo (unless it’s the heavyweight) it stays buckled. Im not sure how much help I’ve been lol. They are both very good for this type of painting. It’s probably just a matter of personal taste, how much you want to spend, and what looks you want to achieve 😃

Thank you! It is just a curling brush hairdryer with the brush attachment removed that I use on the cool setting. It works great and for me it is much easier to hold. Thank you! I am currently working on setting up a website, but between homeschooling, housework, painting, editing videos, and just life in general it is taking me much longer than I had hoped to get it up and running lol. I have just been selling to people through word of mouth or people who have contacted me through Facebook Messenger or through the email address on the "about" page for my channel. I have quite a few more paintings complete than I have videos of, but haven't managed to get professional enough pictures of them yet to post them for sale. I hope to have my website up by the end of January, but if anyone is interested in purchasing one before then they can contact me through the email listed here on KZbin. The prices vary depending on the size and substrate painted on, but currently run from $40 - $75 for an original, signed painting. I am not currently doing any prints, but will be adding those eventually once I get my website finished. If you are interested in buying a painting, just send me an email! Thank you so much for watching and for your interest!

@@LorrieBrewer Thank you for the information... I will contact you after Christmas... I really love the "Phoenix" one... or one like it.. even a small one would do... how much would that cost? 5"x7" or an 8"x10"... unframed.
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 4 жыл бұрын
The Phoenix one is 9x12 and would be $55. I would be happy to put it in either a black or white single mat with a backing for no extra charge. It’s not ready to go yet anyway. I still have to seal it. I always wait 4 or 5 days before I seal them to make sure the inks have cured completely and then have to wait another week to two weeks or so after I seal them before I am comfortable packaging them to ship. I don’t want the varnishes I use to get stuck on packaging and ruin it because they weren’t cured all the way. Just get in touch after Christmas and let me know if you are interested 😃. Thank you for all of your lovely compliments! 💖

Hi ,is it possible to make it on canvas?
@LorrieBrewer
@LorrieBrewer 4 жыл бұрын
😃 Yes, you can do this on canvas. It just needs to be prepped with a few of coats of gesso or a waterproofing paint like Kilz 2. If your canvas isn’t smooth enough after a couple of coats you may need to lightly sand it then add another coat or two. Once it’s all dry good, it’s ready to ink on! 💜💜
