"Don't bluff fish" is oversimplified. The truth is, fish call with any pair and any draw. So you only shouldn't bluff them when they have a lot of pairs and draws in their range. But when they don't, you can actually bluff your ass off. That's why on dry boards, they will massively under-defend. And on the river, there are no more draws to call with, so they can also fold a lot.

Also fish is oversimplified. Know your fish. Some never chase unless they are getting MASSIVE pot odds, some always chase. Some never call with worse than top pair, some always call. The good thing is most fish don't mix up their bad play so when you figure which they are they are so easy to beat.

I like you finally got study GTO on the list. Strategies you are talking about are great when you hit weak players, but are super easy to exploit for someone with solver. I recommend solver for understanding range advantage and sizings, because you can make massive errors by not understanding texture of the board

I do all these things. And I make money. I think Tip 12, Prepare for Variance, may be the most important. Everything else flows from the right attitude (for me.) The one thing I would add to the "double-barrel a scare card recommendation" is to temper that strategy by an understanding of V's range. I often slow down on a Turn Ace when I know V has a lot of Ax in V's range. Fixing this leak has helped me a ton.

Regarding #9 - I like to sometimes raise the flop with a draw against one person because, more often than not, they will check the turn to you, and if you haven't hit your draw you can get a free river card and so another chance the make the hand.

These small bet bluffing tips are designed to induce folds with a minimum of risk and are for boost games where you don't need to "mix things up" to keep the opponents guessing as in a standard table game. Be mindful of the fact that bluffs are much less risky against one or two players than more than two opponents. The more players you are trying to get to fold, the less likely you will succeed. I do not try to induce a fold of more than two players in most instances. You also need to factor in the size of the pot. What is the reward for your risk? If a two big blind bet can possibly pull in a sizeable pot then it is worth a try even if the odds are relatively low. Be mindful of the general makeup of the player pool as that can change radically depending on the time of day and day of the week. Some player pools, typically on weekends are more aggressive and careless. That can be a two edged sword as bluffing against them generally does not pay although the fact that they are a larger number of players helps keep you incognito. A weekday morning game will have fewer players which means they will figure out your playstyle more quickly, but with a higher percentage of nitty regulars with perhaps some better skilled aggressive types in the mix. Being aware of the player pool disposition when playing boost (zoom) is very important, especially when it comes to bluffing tactics. I bet two big blinds or 1/3 pot, whichever is larger as my standard "pattern bet". Here are some post flop patterns which you should play no matter your position. If your are in early position your bluff will be given more credence and so, when bluffing, the positional advantages and disadvantages are more or less a wash. If the flop contains a pair and nobody has bet before you, always bet no matter what you have. If the flop is all one suit and nobody has bet before you, always bet no matter what you have. If the flop contains an ace and nobody has bet before you, always bet no matter what you have. If the flop contains no tens or higher (consists of only 2-9) and nobody has bet before you, always bet no matter what you have. and finally pre-flop: If your button position has not been contested, (nobody has bet before you) always bet at least two big blinds no matter what you have, play your button. Be mindful this will raise your vpip and make you appear looser than you actually are to those who are using tracking software but that should generally work in your favor. ..

Calling increases your variance, but it's really dependent on who you're playing against. If your opponent has all the middle pairs and big broadways (AK, AQ, KQ ect.), calling makes sense. If your opponent is a nit and only has QQ+ here, obviously fold.

Hey Jordan, you can study charts for ranges but I prefer to just use mental models. I know that certain player types will have a pair 20% of the time, a draw 30%, and nothing 50% for example. Then I devise my strategy vs that range accordingly. Hope this makes sense.

OK, can someone please help me out, Please ??? For Americans mostly, I guess. I used to play on Pokerstars a lot and in April 2011 Black Friday hit the USA. I was making consistently between 800 and 1200 dollars monthly. To this day, I still cannot find a poker site that I would even have a chance to do that again. I play mostly on sites like NLOP that have really small cash games like $1, 5, 10, 25 etc. games that take hours to finish. I have won a few of the 25, 50 dollar cash games but first place pays 20 or 25 dollars. Usually takes about 3 to 4 hours to complete. Not a great per hour rate. Where can I go play poker like I used to ? Is it even possible ? Anyway, thx in advance for any advice or help with this. I used to love to play poker. These days, its mostly just to pass some time and win a few bucks but really nothing to write home about.

Disagree on never limp. 1. It is a way to vary your strategy. 2. You don't want to isolate with suited connector type hands that depend on multiple callers because they only hit 25 % of the time. You don't want to isolate mid suited connectors against most people's hands, which will be two high cards. 3. In a tournament with a relatively short stack, raising pre-flop every time is going to effectively raise the stakes and mean you get fewer shots, granted bigger rewards, but that is higher variance. But then you forswear anything but #1, where I want to finish a series with as much $ as possible even if that means finishing short of #1. Also, when you get to the end of a tournament, you must gamble anyway and the swings are wide. One extra big pot and you are in the same place. Get there more often and you will hit the extra big hand and win the tournament sometimes, and still cash most of the time.

Never never never bet more than 12 big blinds unless you have the nuts at the optimal hand tier. Two pair isn't worth more than 12 big blinds because there can always be a set. A nut straight isn't worth more than 12 big blinds if there is a possible flush. A nut flush isn't worth more than 12 big blinds if there is a possible full house. A low level (less than high card is tripled) full house is not worth more than say.. 20 big blinds. Even when the high card is the one that is tripled it is never the nut as there can always be four of a kind. Most players lose most of their money overbetting their hand compared to folding winning hands. The hardest thing to do is fold a good hand because.. you know you will never know if you made the right decision in that particular circumstance. There is no feedback. That's why folding good hands is so very difficult. ..

yes, that is at showdown! but once you know the player you will figure it out. he wont raise with one ace with nothing on the board. so board texture and type of betting is important. so you have to play all sorts of poker,types and all sort of formats to get seasoned. how just an A will win? he needs a pair. so A will be on the board. And what do you have? and how much he is raising? what is the situation on the turn? room for straight,flush,triple set and what you have and your situation. ------------ he may do that once but not again n again. ultimately the best hand wins!! That is why some formats limit on how much you can bet to stop the run of the milll situation. like how many times you recheck( recheck,recheck all the way to the doom? it is not allowed. I need to check that in no limit) --------------- there has been lot of adjustment for fair play. calling station and all-inn preflop is a huge issue in tournaments with no re-entries. people call with all-inns to build pot early as there are many small tournaments to try out( which is unlikely in real casinos).In real casions you have many sit n go tables and long running tournaments with rebuys if you gets out very soon( a fair chance) ----------------- POKER GAME ITSELF HAS FLAWS( THE HIGH TEXAS WHICH PUTS HIGH VALUE ON HIGHER RANKED CARDS DESPITE THE SET RULE. 2 PAIRS ARE NOT EQUAL THOUGH THEIR PROBABILITY IS EQUAL( THIS IS A FLAW IN THE GAME WHICH NOBODY TALKS ABOUT. THE TYPE OF CARDS ARE NEUTRAL). WHEN TWO PEOPLE HAVE A PAIR OR ANY MATCH THEY MUST BE EQUAL. WHY? THE PROBABILITY OF THEM IS SAME: THERE ARE ONLY 4 A'S AND 4 1'S. WELL, IT IS NOT MIT FOR A REASON. IT IS NOT HIGH IQ. YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT. THERE ARE OTHER GAMES WHERE THIS IS NOT DONE BUT THEY ARE NOT LIKE POKER. SKILL HAS A BIGGER ROLE.
