I can go either way: I grew up in the country, with few neighbors and fewer kids my own age, so being alone is normal for me. I learned to be a reader, and a thinker. Sadly it also makes me uncomfortable in large groups (that are not quite large enough for anonymity), since I seem to have few if any 'social' skills. Sadly. I do well one on one, however.

I have been an introvert my whole life and proud of it!! Looks like every time I broke that role and tried to hang out with folks who were not like me or go to family events or job celebrations I always paid a price for it. If I sat in a corner quietly they whisper, she's too quiet, stuck up, anti-social and all the other names some of you guys have dealt with too. I really especially hate it when it comes to women the most, who think just because you're a woman you have to go shopping with them, tell them all of your business, talk about and gossip about others and when I reject that or them they get all mad and angry because I choose not to be a part of their toxic narcissistic circle!! I go shopping by myself, movies by myself, dinner by myself and have had Thanksgiving and Christmas by myself, but then again I'm never alone because I have my God with me all the time. I love meditating, reflecting on and talking to Him!! I love going on walks in a park with Him where I find true peace and the meaning of life!! I don't have to worry about Him running back telling anything I've said or keeping up a bunch of gossip and drama!! I tell people all the time, you can't put a price on peace!! I love being alone because that is where I truly find peace!! Glad to see I'm not alone in my thinking!!

Hey. I am very intrested learning about God. Do you mind telling me some over another plattform perhaps? I am also an introvert so I understand you fully. I have been so let down by everybody but my family that loves me scincerely but I never had the blessing to meet a true genuine friend that shares the same thought system that I do. Even though I enjoy my company and don't feel alone I still want to share alot with another humanbeing my age or above, does not really matter whom, because I really love thinking and talking deeply about intresting topics and thought system that does not give space in this world I feel. It's like I from time to time loose hope and find life really meaningless to the point I have a hard time keeping up with the fact that people are this way. It would make me truly happy if I got to believe in God I think... All love /S

Exactly, when I was a teenage I watched a large group of girls sitting together. The Queen of the group held court which basically meant she talked to her inner circle while the rest of them sat on the outside and looked bored . They were all dressed the same but that didn’t mean they all belonged . I decided then and there that I would rather be “ Billy no mates “ doing what I want to do rather than be a “ hanger on “ just so I can say I have friends and belonged to a group that I don’t really belong in and I am just making up the numbers so that the Queen can rule . I am 60 years old now and very content , bit of a free spirt and prefer a good book , music or painting to peoples BS especially as the in thing at the moment seems to be “ building a brand “ or “ playing victim for money “ . Get a life

The worst thing I ever did was to get married in my 40s - a long distance sight unseen relationship destroyed my life. The only upside was that I did manage to claw back some of what I lost by being able to retreat to my man-cave surrounded by the things that mean the most to me. Unfortunately it also means that I cannot relax in the living room that I entirely paid for.

Don’t feel bad. Just fight for your right. I also had that confusion before. Once I realized talkative people are the most idiots in the world, I fight them back pointing out all their weaknesses and lacking qualities by being talkative. They are poor listeners. You can never make friend with them if you are an introvert, coz they like to talk as if they know everything in the world. Remember, you acquired knowledge by listening, not talking.

I used to know many people, they weren't real friends , they tried to always take advantage , the type that want to borrow your car , because they wrecked every car they ever had. You say no and they freak . because you have boundaries and don't your car at the mercy of an inconsiderate fake friend. The friends you have left are your true friends for life , and they are all able to be alone too . Great video!

For me, being introverted and on my own means I don't have to rely on other people for anything, except in exceptional circumstances. I have a few close lifelong friends, but don't usually even ask them for help unless I have no other options, and I'm often radio silent for days because I'm not really into small talk. I can understand why we're misunderstood, but we cannot change who we are, and neither would I want to.

This is ME!! I have those old school friends who are literally mad at me because I don't want to talk to them on the phone. I'm happy to text often (keeps it short & less questioning with frivolous talk). And I've explained I'm just an Introvert!! I don't know if they don't understand it, or believe it or what the problem is but they just totally ignore it... They've pushed me to the point of anger, hence not speaking to them at all. I'm ok with that, because it's just never enough... If I call then they want to set up WEEKLY calls, if I set up calls then it's getting together in person, visiting from out of state on a moments notice & bringing others with them, etc. I'm happier not feeling obligated and disappointing people who simply don't understand me. It's nice to be in a space where I don't have to explain myself 😌

Yes. When I have a problem I like to find the answer to it and solve it myself. Being alone I have the time to hone in on the causes of the problem and find an easy solution. As a result I have been able to develop new skills both practically and intellectually. But when someone tells me about their problems and I make simple suggestions they actually seem to be intimidated by my simple solutions I am not sure why. Perhaps solutions which seem simple to me are not so simple to them.

I love and appreciate your comment. My son that lives across the country is 38 yrs. old. At the age of 25 after his divorce he became a Marine. Since he got out, he truly lived alone for the first time as he had been married at a young age and divorced, no kids. All through the years I've had countless conversations with him about us being introverts and how to deal with people that are not. We truly stand back and feel bad for those people that crave to be around others constantly and can't stand to be alone for 5 minutes. We talk about all the whys and how come they are as they are. Those of us that are truly introverts find that we deal with ourselves more completely than others that can't and won't. Above all, we don't apologize for being who we are simply because there's no need. However, we allow people to be who they are but choose and refuse to be around those that are truly messed up and time wasters for us, those that want to whine, complain and suck up our peace of mind and well-being. We love being who we are and don't need approval from anyone and gave up explaining to people long ago.

All they achieved was to make my childhood unhappy. Once I reached adulthood, I began to assert myself and start to avoid situations I wasn't comfortable with. My dad was a doctor, my mother a concert pianist. I am the youngest of three children. My parents knew they made a mistake marrying one another on the day after their wedding, but stayed married for 23 years (until my mother died of cancer) for the "benefit of the children." I had no relationship with my brother or sister growing up, and neither my mom nor my dad spend time with me; they were too busy. Moreover, they never taught me how to socialize with other children or adults. Aside from a short 3.5 yr. marriage, I have lived alone for almost 60 years. Only now do I appreciate my "good luck" to be a loner, introvert, etc.

Depends on your personality, lifestyle. Being an extrovert has it's benefits and it's setbacks; just as being an introvert has it's. I've reinvented myself several times and I've realized that it is all a game, whether we play it with ourselves or others. It can be a fun ride as long as you realize that it's just a ride. Otherwise it gets scary and dangerous. Handle one person the wrong way and you'll find yourself thrown right off it.

It is rare to hear a video explain so much about my personality, I've been called shy I've been called antisocial, I've been called a loner, I've been asked how can you take being alone, and I always told them that it never really bothered me, the only time being alone becomes hard is when you're dealing with sickness either with you or your family or death, not having a spouse or a partner to support you makes it that much harder, other than that it's not that bad, but I hate being around crowds of people, I hate going to the mall or any place that's crowded, I absolutely hate standing and waiting in a line and will refuse to do so if I can help it, but the funny thing is my mom and a few of my brothers are the exact opposite they have to be around people, they can't be alone for 5 minutes they always got to go places they always need a crowd that just drains your ass like a battery I never understood it.

We are at the same age and I really thought after all those years that we had a connection but even then, peoples real face came through. I have lost hope totaly and cannot grasp how they are working. Rapid change of personality, two faced. There got to be somebody like me out there who is a deep thinker, empath, easy to hang out with, genuine and that also likes being alone. To find somebody to be alone with... People always think I’m an extrovert because I am very outgoing, but I am really an introvert. I may seem outgoing out in public & around my family, but I can only be with people for a short time. I’m not only an introvert, I’m an empath. I am really careful about not allowing energy vampires near me. It’s taken me many years to understand these qualities about myself.

I completely relate, Linda! I grew up thinking that I was inferior in many ways and because I was also an empath, was completely misunderstood by family. I always felt that my efforts and accomplishments were never understood and that my choices were never fully acceptable. Learning about emotional vampires was one of the most enlightening experiences of my life. I now feel more in charge of my feelings and choices.

This can very likely describe me as a person since I can be an introvert while also trying to be an extrovert by stepping out of my comfort zone.

@@maureenschweickert2091 I agree 100%! I have always been considered the “black sheep” of my family, but it was because I was misunderstood more than anything. It’s taken me a long time to understand my differences (I am 59), but I am finally at peace with myself ❤️

I've always been an introvert, in school I had 2 friends, and they were also introverts. This is very true; my 2 friends have been my friends since we were in 6th grade. True again, I had wanted to be a funeral director since I was 12 and I did it, I even got a second degree in embalming. In person, I don't talk much, I'm almost painfully shy, I'm a very good listener and I don't repeat things without permission, like if it's just general talking, but I NEVER reveal secrets. I've been married for so long; I think I was born married lol.

I have one dear and trusted friend of 45 years. My husband is an extreme extrovert and doesn't understand me. This is an ideal learning lesson for him to view.

Great little show explains a lot as I am an introvert. Which in my banking and finance career was a bit of disaster, don't get me wrong I did pretty well but it was the small talk, rituals and blokeeness of the place that drove me out. What was the catalyst was our 3 monthly review. There was no work problems but I originally come from the arse end of New Zealand but now live in Australia. One of the many cultural curiosities Southlanders have is we use the word "we" to describe a task completed in the context of " we have finished the marking plan" when of course it was just me doing the work. Well that set my superior off in rant for about 30 minutes on this "we" thing. No worries though it was time to go anyway. So I set up a chilli business on my little farm I will never get rich but it is a hell of a lifestyle and I have been going for 10 years now couldn't be happier

As a life long introvert I endorse this message. It's really surprisingly spot on. I would bet if you relate you also appreciate these qualities in others.

Often society treats introversion as a handicap or an affliction. It makes us seem like we are missing out on something, or that we should be sad for being left out. Heck, nothing threatens me more than an invitation to a party or gathering of some kind. LOL!!

I enjoy my own space. I avoid drama but enjoy intellectual conversation. I become bored quickly with meaningless conversation. I have a curious mind and love researching certain topics.

Thanks for this episode. I was starting to feel bad about all this - wanting to be alone, with no family, no kids, not a big social life, living in my head, needing a lot of downtime...Some days I want to go to the gym, but I won't even do that as I can exercise at home, so I stay home all day. Today is one of those days. Happy to read all these comments.

Fairly accurate, I consider myself a loner never thought I’m an introverted man, after seeing this video I’m closer to an introvert than a loner, I’m very a talented artist I used to spend months alone in my studio creating works of art that’s beautiful and meaningful, but being an introvert it was very difficult for me to express my emotions during art shows and meeting new people who I felt was forcing their lives into my personal space, oh I could go on and on but thank you for pointing out my tendencies to self meditate

I feel partially exposed and vulnerable after watching this, as though I've been propped up on display and read like a book to the public. Its rather ominous how spot on many of these points are when referring to us introverts. Then again, I guess it does also educate those who aren't introverted.

Omg... My annoying childhood friends who want to talk on the phone just so they can tell me EVERYTHING they've done, everything they ate, everything they bought (& want to buy), everywhere they went & going, every conversation, everything they wore, everything everyone else did & it just goes on & on!! Then they want a full account from me 😳 I don't remember!! Seriously who cares?? Then they get mad at me because I refuse to answer the phone. It's as if their lives are justified by how much they can shove into a week, like the busier they are that makes them more successful. Meanwhile, I don't care. 😂 I laugh about it but they make me feel so guilty & horrible as a friend. I had to stop talking to them altogether because no matter what I say; they don't understand me.
