Gabby, the textbooks are designed by linguist experts who divided the levels into A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 so that the student has a study of graduated topics and they teach the general and formal language. No book is designed to teach Slang. I am a Spanish speaker and not even the books we study at school teach slang and that does not mean that the books are bad as you want to make them out to be. The slang is learned by living in the country and on the street or thanks to you natives who teach us through this means, but do not discourage people from using books because even you in school used grammar books, we Spanish speakers also had the subject of Spanish with books. Your videos are great but those of us who already have a B1 B2 C1 level are the ones who are already more prepared to learn Slang

A lot of these slangs are very old that I've personally used for over 15years like bet,cap,ghost,fit,ate that up & references to women as a snack. I was born & raised in the hood though so slang was just how we spoke to one another and people that weren't from here didn't start understanding what we be saying until now since everyone is using it now our slang now. We really are some trendsetters in Atlanta got the whole world stealing our lingo trying to make it their own.

I'm a 35 year old man who has lived in America for all of but 3 years of my memory span and I have only heard of killing it, Ghosted, and Sutiationship. The other ones I have NEVER heard of in my memory here in the United States. Number ten has been around for a while within the German language as ZeitGeist or "Spirt of The Moment". I would assume "no cap" would mean no emphasis as in no capitalization when writing something down along the lines of "no biggie" in older American Slang.

There are origins to these words: music slaps because of the loud music/bass from your speakers in the trunk of your car, and food “smacks” bcuz of the sound you make when your eating something delicious. But who am I to give history lessons on slang words. To each his own. ✌🏽

Slang is slang. Proper English is correct English. It's a shame that proper English gets "dummied down". We call that, slang.

Informal English is a natural part of every language. Many slang words eventually get added to the dictionary. The English we speak today was slang to previous generations. It’s the natural progression of language.

@@EnglishwithGabby Strange, because my grandparents, both, born in the late 1800's, as well as my parents spoke English the way I speak today. Yes, we used some slang, but not in place of correct English. Slang is not correct English and most employers would not hire individuals who used slang as their major form of "English."

@@pamelaryan4576 if you go through the decades of ENGLISH literature, you’ll notice the progression of English. This is the main reason why English vocabulary books are updated at schools often. Example of the progression of idioms: Baby boomers use caught red handed Gen X/Millennials use caught in the act Gen Z use caught in 4K Other examples are words like selfie, janky and cringe being added to the dictionary. On average 100-200 words are added to the dictionary per month and many are informal/slang words. English is very much a living language. If people didn’t allow for the language to change we’d still be speaking like the founding fathers.

@@pamelaryan4576 also, slang is relative. It doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone because it’s regional, cultural and generational. Slang to me is not slang to my sons since many of the words will be added to the dictionary by the time they’re my age. The academic director at my university uses informal English. Presidents and politicians use slang. Of course, crude slang will never be accepted professional just as profanity won’t, but most slang is not crude.

Slang is okay used in certain situations, however, in my opinion, it will never replace or be an excuse for proper English. Like everything else, it has it's place.

I’m a native English speaker and every year, I jump on one of these type of videos to see how the language has changed. Long story short, I don’t know how ESL folks manage. I mean, it’s wiggety-whack, cray-cray, off the chain, bad medicine, a bummer, a wet blanket, and it’s gobbledygook and nothing but booshwash! 🙄
