[12] | Arch Linux: Budgie Desktop

72 yr old newbee here. Today I worked on installing archlinux32 on to a dell Inspiron 6400 just for the hell of it. The chap from Texas I was following on KZbin used xfce4 but I wanted to try budgie but I wasn't sure it would work on a 32bit system. I am pleased to say it does and I am feeling quite chuffed.

@@eflinux So far so good! I'm used to running KDE so I'm trying to find alternative apps that use GTK instead of QT to avoid loading all of the extra dependencies. I have a nice lean Budgie-based desktop and I'm enjoying it. Not sure if I'll make the switch from KDE, but I appreciate you making the video and showing me something new!

lightdm has an option to "switch user" its just as good as locking the screen, but allows other users to access their desktops - {dm-tool switch-to-greeter} also a lock option - {dm-tool lock}

I heard Budgie is moving away from GTK, will that affect anything with my arch install?

Does every app works on budgieor kde? Well i know some apps wont work in some desktop environments.

are you using kvm/qemu for your vm? if so is it really the vmware graphics driver in that case?

Yes I'm using KVM. As for the drivers, it's not strictly necessary to install them.

That usually happens when there's a misconfiguration in the language settings. Check that a language settings are correct.

Why isn't he doing a full package update with pacman -Syyu, where u = update, before installing these major packages? As far as I know, Arch Linux does not support mixed versions of packages. The way it's done in the video, the packages installed are latest, but all the rest of the system is older, which might lead to package dependencies being incorrect.
