I love archinstall script, not only because it's easy to do, but also keeps the spirit of arch minimalism customization. Basically you install or setup however you want, you can install full desktop with packages or just TTY terminal, you have also option to adjust staff. You can choose the automatic disc partition, or you can partition yourself manual.

I did try it and it almost borked my CachyOS install, do not recommend if you're running it, maybe it interferes with other power management settings of the system, but I'm not savvy enough to check.

I don't think that you're supposed to launch fish from bash via .bashrc. You should instead run 'chsh' to change your user shell to /bin/fish or you can do it manually by editing /etc/passwd

Hello and thank you very much for presenting this material in an informative and direct manner. It was very easy to follow and helped me learn the finer details and syntax for getting GRUB setup correctly when using LVM. This was great and please continue to create these videos!!

Great video and good general information. What I would've stressed was the fact that timeshift btrfs snapshot restores do not work - unless you have the "exact" lvm subvolume mount naming sequence you have in /etc/fstab. You're forced to use @ and @home layout for it to function correctly. Super tedious and frustrating to figure out the hard way. Not sure exactly what the original developer was thinking when he designed it. For standard rsync file backups to external drives, it's an ok app. Most users will install timeshift thinking the software will just work for system snapshots, but it does not function correctly or restore correctly unless everything has been setup perfectly beforehand.

Can you make a video on timeshift (or snapper) + refind + refind-btrfs (refind-btrfs is like grub-btrfs but for refind). I've trying for days to make refind-btrfs work without any luck...

41:50 for the resolution problem in VMs, config your grub like this: GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT="gfxterm" GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768x32 (replace with your resolution) GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep This not only sets the resolution for GRUB but also tells linux to keep the same resolution, so you won't need to change resolution everytime in your DE. Very useful for VMs.

Excellent! This is exactly how I wanted to install Debian! I like Arch, but updating it every week is not good for servers, since it's best to reboot after updating. I've had bad luck with live patching. It is good to know that Debian can be installed this minimally while also using BTRFS. Now it should be safe to only update every few months.

swapfiles are slower than swap partitions so imo you shouldn't use them, they are also harder for a user to understand imo

To anyone who might be having issues booting into your newly-partitioned drive, your particular MBR/BIOS system (old 2010 Toshiba Satellite A500 laptop, in my case) may not be recognizing the HDD/SSD as bootable. Before quitting out of cfdisk at 3:37, be sure to navigate to the "Bootable" option with your main Linux partition selected, and add the bootable flag to it. If you already installed GRUB and rebooted, simply boot back into your Arch bootable USB and re-enter cfdisk. Reboot again after adding and saving the flag to your sdX2 partition, and hopefully you should be able to boot in your HDD/SSD proper. This seems to be glossed over by many other installation guides, as well as in some auto installers for other distros such as Linux Mint (which is designed to work with EFI and "legacy BIOS" systems simultaneously). I suppose in normal situations, this is usually handled automatically, but since my particular old MBR system was being incredibly stubborn with this until I manually set the bootable flag, I figured I'd leave this for anyone else having issues with getting Arch or any other MBR-formatted distro to work on their old MBR system.

This reflector python script doesn't work when I type the same. I tried with Germany and Switzerland but it gives the text "WARNING: failed to rate". After I tried with another command like sudo reflector --verbose --sort rate -l 20 -c Germany -c Switzerland --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist it finally did work
