I like to take Knob 12 and blend it with 9yr store picks. hits a nice balance for my pallet for proof and oak.

I agree with you re: EC Toasted. I still think it's a perfectly fine bottle, but OF1910 is just much more readily available and I like it just a tad better. I have to disagree re: KC SB pick. I think it still slaps and it is a bottle that I always try to keep on my shelf.

Agree with pretty much every bottle other than the KC SP’s. I know they are not what the older ones were, but $60-$65 for a 9-10 year 120 proof single barrel bourbon from a legacy distillery is still a fantastic value. Also I agree that the OF 100 proof picks are the sweet spot as they are flavor bombs whereas the barrel strength picks seem to drink hot and heat overtakes the flavors.

I’m not typically an Old Forester fan, but I do love the single barrel barrel strength. I highly prefer this particular one over 1920, but that’s just me. 😊

Gotta disagree with you on EC Toasted Barrel recently got one for $51 when a year ago they were like $79-99 here in some stores in Colorado. I think it's a great campfire bourbon

Oh, and since you dont live in my state a little tip on the KC storepicks (yeah the 15yr barrels are gone everywhere): the 9yr single barrel store picks @ 120 proof are still pretty good (similar to 15yr) if its from the right rickhouse and floor. I dont buy anything aged below floor5, greatly prefer floors 6, 7, 8. Excellent value and flavor particularly compared to OF SBBP picks, woodford BP, weller BP, and even EHT BP. Many of those are just sold at high proof to hide their relative youth, imo.

I am with you on most of these. The Woodford ones totally agree I was so excited to pick up a honey barrel finished bottle worst ever, although one of the malted releases it was so awful it tasted like a raisin bagel. I stay away same with Yellowstone Remus, etc. I used to love the Old Forester single barrels when Jackie was behind them now they are all the same.

I bought 4 bottles of Henry McKenna at Costco here in Northern California,11/10/23 for $56 each. Super delicous whisky, It taste to me like drinking maple syrup over a buttery pancake and a dark chocolate covered cherry with a dash of cinnamon finish, Yum!

Completely agree on the OF 100 proof picks. I would take those all day. The barrel strength just tastes hot to me. I love high proof stuff but I have tried several picks and they all drink young and hot. People around me go crazy for the barrel strength but I just don’t get it. I wish the barrel strength picks tasted like presidents choice! Haha

Zach, we met in the Michter's line a few weeks ago - I had just picked a really sweet but calm 130 proof OldFo the day before. I absolutely agree with that assessment and I even proofed down the pick a bit just to see what it might taste like. However, it was a fantastic pick at 130 and didn't drink anywhere near there. Great list, great work. Keep up the great work. You and Dave are killin' it with the content.

Agree with some disagree w/ others. KC store picks are pretty great still for the price. Those old age statements will never come back because now they are giving those older barrels to like KC 12 or KC 18 or special releases and charging a premium for it. The Elijah Craig toasted was probably my least favorite toasted bottle next to BH Toast. I will be passing on the MWND this year there are lots of port finished products now that are cheaper I also think the price bump on the Masters Keep has gotten out of control especially with the rum one this year and increased rum finished products on the market currently.

Add a few drops of water to your whiskey if the OF BP single barrels are not hitting the sweet spot for ya…its not against the law, and you probably even have that special kentucky limestone water coming right out of the house faucet!

Thought I was the only one let down by the OFSBBS! It gets so much hype but got crushed when I blinded it against a few others. I feel like with the price increases, quality going down, and peoples tightening budgets some of these bottles will just sit on shelves soon.

Just ones palate and they do change so you just move on. And you never know you may go back to these and think it’s the best thing since peanut butter. Variety is the key you have to keep trying different juice it not only keeps you from getting into a rut but expands your palate. Enjoy!!

Good review. Of the 1792, I only enjoyed the Full Proof. I'm so sad about the OF Single Barrel. I've never had it, but since I love OF, I thought it would be amazing. Lastly, one of my absolute favorites is the Woodford Double Double Oaked. Not sure if you included that one.

I just got one last month. It was awesome. The heat in the finish was a bit muted. It drank about 10 proof points under what it was. Even bring the neck pour.

Not chasing/ buying: Black Maple Hill (should be on everyones DNB list by now) Hardin’s Creek anything M10 Bourbon (quality of 2023 release might be out of trend for the product quality which has fallen off so far since 2014) AE CS (finishing is for single malts) ECBP (shell of its former self) Larceny BP Willett SB anything. Taste is more important than how it looks on my shelf, and $$$ spent do not correlate with taste. BTAC anything. pappy anything - ridiculous price inflation. VOSN (overpriced crap, see BMH)

I can't even uncork a High West product any more without reacting violently to it ... I used to really enjoy their stuff but not now, and I don't really know why. Oh, and anything finished in Amburana ruins my palate for a week so I'm definitely off that train. I still love 1792 single barrels, though.

@@thomasmichael6509 Yea, it's hit or miss with a lot of things. I went crazy this year trying to hunt down a Penelope Rio. I had one friend who got an amazing bottle. Easily one of the top 3 whiskeys I've ever had. Another friend got a Rio and popped it open and it was not quite as good. Which is odd because I thought it'd be from the same batch. I finally got one about two weeks ago and I hope it's a good bottle.

O come on Dave the Yellowstone 2022 Limited Edition was phenomenal. Old age whiskey with a long finish. I am sad I can’t get it anymore and down to last 3 bottles. The 2021 was young and not worth it and the 2023 is a sweet dessert but not buying a back up. The Woodford Master’s Collection are hit or miss. The one I just got was great but not worth the high price. Remus is disappointing now but at least the price is high for what you get 😂 Picked up the MWND act 11 and probably my last one. For 150 too many other better bottles. See them sitting on shelves all over by me at msrp. Elijah Craig Toasted is easy sipper but such a light toast not a great toasted for me. Sits on shelf now so nice to have an easy grab for a gift. Russell’s Reserve 13 is another one. Great pour but $150 not worth it as Russell’s Reserve SiB store picks are half the price and range from almost, equally to better than RR13 never mind the $46 Rare Breed
