this is not a classic ballet. the 12 dancing princesses was never until mattel made it one in their barbie movie with the help of the new york city ballet. this performance in the video was inspired by the barbie movie. and it did a very good job

Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses is not mattel's original story line. This movie is the adaptation of Grimm's fairytale called: "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" (aka "The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes" or "The Shoes that were Danced to Pieces")

They are versions of the original tale that ballet is involved. The 12 dancing princesses didn't come from mattel and mattel didn't make it into a ballet it already was a ballet

So all of the music they used was in the movie. It’s a combination of Mendelssohn’s 4th symphony-1854-and also his 1826 musical setting of Shakespeare’s , A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Lucky for us, All of that is in the public domain! As for the music original to the Barbie movie, like the opening theme and the extended version that you hear while Genevieve and Derek are dancing into the sky, is all under copyright, as it was made only 17 yrs ago…unfortunately. Side note: I’ve noticed that since the release of the new Barbie movie, Mattel has gotten real strict about taking the animated movies off of KZbin. Hopefully one day we can watch them free again LOL

Mattel just made a barbie movie if that story abd changed it up cause in the original story the twelve princesses get cursed by the dark fairy to dance every night
