… and to think I actually played around with one for an afternoon or two when I was about twelve years old (i.e., > 50 yrs ago)! A colleague of my mother had one as a prized possession, with some kind of fully-mechanical Brunsviga monster as her day-to-day workhorse. This was in Germany in an government-run institution with certain number-crunching requirements (as in: geodesy & mapmaking)
