I don't want to be mean when I say it but it's true, puss in boots LW did it first and did it best; everyone else (even if it was from a good place) capitalized on it (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery). Like the original creator of this video didn't even go into the tinitis aspect, when you can't hear, when you memory and cognition literally sever and your body hard shifts into pure survival. How you literally can't see or see through someone trying to help you as the 5 F's Take over. (Fight, flight, freeze, fawn/feign, faint)
@cacti4324Ай бұрын
@@kaiyote7924this is just so incorrect. The creator of this video really built it to follow his preference as opposed to reality and objectivity. Just like the animation style and a lot of aspects of that movie while The Last Wish may be a really good movie, a lot of it is so clearly a copy of the original Spiderverse movie that had just won countless awards just a few years before. Spiderverse really was the movie to start this new wave of animation like the Mario movie and The Last Wish. The first Puss and Boots movie is proof of this. The first Puss and Boots movie is good but nothing special and certainly not like The Last Wish at all and that’s because Puss and Boot’s and Dreamwork’s history and past isn’t where people who worked on The Last Wish got their ideas from. Spiderverse and inside out were also without a doubt the first big popular kids animation media to show feelings of panic and anxiety, it certainly was not Puss in Boots. Even from a more mature older as opposed to teen led movie prospective it isn’t Puss and Boots, it’s Bojack Horseman. Like “I’m sorry” but what you just claimed is completely wrong and is a great example of how false news spreads and can be disproved with simple google searches. The Last Wish only came out in 2022. SpiderVerse came out in 2018, Inside out 1 came out in 2015, and Bojack horseman came out in 2014. 10 years ago. And I’m willing to bet there’s animation from way longer ago that also portrayed panic attacks, but again the creator of the video didn’t want to make a non bias, objective, video essay about panic attacks in animation. What he really wanted to do was to show off his favorites and speak about them as if they were facts.
@evelinetheoofdemon6003Ай бұрын
@@cacti4324 ummmmm, not to be rude but (aside from the presenting them as facts thing because that doesn’t happen) the video is based from the creators opinion, as it would be a much larger feat than a KZbin video to scientifically rank panic attack scenes. Also no idea what the tangent about last wish being apparently unoriginal has to do with the scene? He’s ranking those scenes specifically. Tbh, as someone who suffers from extremely bad panic attacks so much so that I am on medication to lessen their effect, the top two scenes are both tied for me as they each represent a different kind of panic attack. The last wish was what I like to call a ‘survivalist’ panic attack, when you can only think to run from the perceived danger until you get somewhere safe. Inside out 2 was a ‘frozen’ panic attack, when you can’t really move from where you are and just try your best to calm down, it’s a quieter form of panic which mostly just leaves you shaken and exhausted. Also it’s from inside out 2 not 1. Easy mistake to make though. Also, it’s a KZbin video dude you can’t expect it to be the most well researched, thorough analysis possible. While there is analysis of the scenes and such, the main purpose is to be informative and funny. I understand wanting it to be completely objective but that simply isn’t possible currently. Finally, the commenter made a good point about the tinitis and your body basically auto piloting to a place it feels safe because that has happened to me before on many occasions. I literally remember getting on a bus to go back home from school (sixth form so I wasn’t in major trouble for this) while having a panic attack, my brain was just completely overwhelmed and I just couldn’t do anything but my body went into full survival instinct and made a beeline back home. I do agree that the original comment did make a kinda dumb point about the last wish ‘doing it first’ and ‘everyone else copying it’, you were right to criticise that. The problem is with the weird tangent and then the sudden critique of how many scenes were in the ranking, even though that doesn’t really matter that much because it’s just one video. Criticise the dumb comment, not the entire video. Sorry if I come across as rude or anything, not trying to be just voicing my opinion on the matter. Anyway, have a great day :)

What makes Riley's panic attack so well done is how the duality of the movie's perspective helps to enhance it. Because we get to see both the outside and inside of this panic attack, the exterior Riley can show the symptoms while not needing the world around her to show what is going on. The inside of her mind becoming such a warzone does PLENTY to show us just how chaotic a person's mind becomes when an anxiety attack strikes.

Jinx has more of a schizophrenia+BPD+PTSD type thing. Its very stressful on her, but its not the typical "panic attack". Shes having major delusions and is hallucinating, which isnt a typical symptom of a panic attack. Not ever "Im very stressed and not in a good mental place right now" thing is automatically a panic disorder. Since there are so many other traumas and mental illnesses mixed in, its not gonna reflect how a standard panic attack works in your average otherwise mentally healthy person. Like her breakdown in Ep 3 and subsequent issues regarding feeling "left out" or like shes getting replaced is pretty clearly a symptom of her BPD and the PTSD from the trauma of her being left by Vi. Her schizophrenia pokes out in the visual and auditory delusions and her paranoia. Obviously panic attacks are a pretty common symptom of PTSD and other mental issues, but shes just a cocktail of mental disorders so its probably above our paygrade to rank her in accuracy. The show does treat the issues very well though and from what ive heard from real therapists its pretty accurate.

Merely petting a dog decreases stress hormones like cortisol and increase hormones that help you feel relief and happiness. Admittedly I’m not quite sure specifically about the science of a dog’s heartbeat helping, but it would make sense, seeing as it provides a steady rhythm to focus on and ground oneself while also providing physical contact by being close enough to the dog’s chest to listen. And it makes sense that a movie about emotions would have a character going through one, especially one with Anxiety in it.

@@plaidhatter1674 god right?? that visual is so burned into my brain. It's so real and accurate. And Anxiety herself in that moment--she doesn't want to cause Riley to suffer, she wants to keep Riley safe and give her a good future, but everything she's done is destroying Riley and she's so desperate to regain control but is only making it worse. The characterization of anxiety as controlling but not ill-intentioned and being, herself, terrified in the midst of a panic attack was just so on-point. Joy struggling to get through to her had me tearing up in the theater.

8:54 Inside Out: This one annoys me as someone with very bad anxiety. Anxiety and panic are different and so an anxiety attack and a panic attack are different and present differently. I do think it’s important to differentiate the two; anxiety, panic/fear, and even stress are all different things with largely varying effects. Though, I think it’s also important to consider how much the movie had to simplify complex topics. Its science isn’t perfect by any means, but at the same time I think it’s a very powerful and memorable way to communicate those concepts to a younger audience who may not have known how to describe those feelings before seeing it portrayed that way

And to think that they removed Scooby from the show because they thought having a talking dog would be too “kiddie” and yet the kid’s movie with talking cats, talking dogs, talking wolfs, talking bears, and talking crickets was infinitely more mature.

I think there are also different ways that a panic attack can occur. Of course, normally, we got the heavy breathing and red face and erractic movement. But there are also scenarios were the person itself just freezes and stops breathing as their mind suddenly start running a million miles. One scenario I can think is in Arcane, where Jinx enounters the Firelights and one of them looks like Vi. She ends up freezing up and staring at the look alike while her mind flashes back to all her previous trauma. She thinks she's seeing Vi, holding the person's grip like a vice as she also experiences a sort of psychotic episode at the same time. When she finally moves it's in the result of a panicked shooting spree after killing the Vi look alike. Her panic only ends when she realizes she's out of bullets and she's left huffing and puffing, staring at the carnage she caused.

Something I really appreciate about the Puss in Boots scene is how there’s only the sound of Puss’ breathing and his heartbeat. I feel like in a lot of scenes where characters are panicking, the visuals and sounds are very overstimulating in order to put the audience in the character’s head, but it always takes me out of the moment a little bit because there’s too much going on. In The Last Wish panic scene, there’s just enough to give the same feeling without being overwhelming.
