The materials in this clip were recorded at the end of September & the beginning of October 2022 during our trip to southern Italy and Sicily. We travelled with a group of friends visiting numerous towns and unique places. Our journey started in Beri, then we saw Ostuni, Alberobello and Polignano a Mare, where we could visit the famous beach "Lama Monachile" which looks better in the pictures than it is in reality.
Next, we cross over to Neapoli, visiting two famous cities, Gravina and Matera, on the way. Both are popular because the James Bond movie was recorded there. Regardless of the film, both are worth visiting. Both cities have unique ambiences.
We cross the sea on the ferry from Neapoli to Palermo, a vibrant city full of tourists and many things to visit. This city never sleeps, and bars and restaurants are always full.
The bonus city we have a chance to visit is Erice, a medieval town with a well-preserved fabric of houses, 60 churches and all on the hill overlooking the sea.
Next, we went through Trapani, Marsala on the way, briefly taking a break to admire the Turkish Stairs & tasting unique vine in local but well know vinery Donna Fugate.
Ancient town Agrigento with the Greek temples and Ragusa Ibla, both very different but very interesting, were our next target.
Each day was full of amazing views and photo opportunities. One could make an entire documentary just regarding each place we had a chance to visit.
With its tiny island Ortigia, packed with thousands of years of history, Syracuse is a place everybody needs to visit. In addition, the old part of this town with Roman & Greek amphitheatres are must-see.
We had a chance to visit mount Etna, but we have been waiting to see more because of bad weather conditions.
Last few days, we had a chance to spend in the vicinity of mount Etna. We were visiting Catania, a city damaged by the Etna eruption and rebuilt by the citizens with love and attention in Baroque style. We also have a chance to go on a day trip to the Lipari Islands to see active volcanos.
The last town we spent some time in was Taormina. I have to admit. Never heard about it before, but now... a big fan! A compact town with amazing views of the Lonian Sea. Famous for ancient Greek/Roman theatre but is also a fantastic touristic destination. I just remembered to mention that we have a chance to visit Savoca, famous for the godfather scenes recorded in Sicily.
This was our first "deep south" trip for my wife and me. But we know, not the last one. She loves to cook, I love to eat, and we both had a lot of good times testing excellent southern food and southern wines.
