A couple tips I would add: 1) I have been to Italy twice, and both times I had trouble using the Euros I got from an ATM. It always came out in 50s, and the merchants did not want to take 50s. I learned from a colleague to choose a multiple of 20 (such as 40) to get smaller bills from the ATM. I found credit cards were easy to use as well. 2) Take an evening walk, wherever you are staying. They call it a passeggiata, and it is the best way (and cheapest) to take in the sights. Everything has a special glow, and the crowds are usually gone. The best evening walk I took was Rick Steves' walk from the Pantheon, to the Piazza Navonna, and the Spanish steps.

I’m Italian and I got here out of curiosity and expecting a lot of cliché. Have to say instead that this is GREAT, the best travel tips video I’ve seen about Italy. It clearly shows a lot of respect and studying and observing. Happy to give you tips on Sardinia or wherever else you wish to travel next to, in Italy. Bravo!

On behalf of my friends and family who are mostly artisans in Tuscany, thank you for pointing out the difference between their work, and the mass produced junk you can buy in the tourist areas. And thank you for sharing the information about food and drinks.... It's a dead giveaway you are American if you ask for something like "parmesan" to add to your "Spaghetti and Meatballs".

What’s Italy like in April? Also I would like to travel north to south Milan to Sicily. How much EUR would you recommend for food attractions and public transport for 3 weeks
@danieledallolio1126
@danieledallolio1126 10 ай бұрын
Hi, visiting Italy in April is a good idea, but it depends where you want to go, towards the north you can find rainy days more often than in the central south. For food, the price per person can vary greatly. If you stay in a hotel, breakfast is generally included in the price, but if you have it at the bar (in Italy the bar is different from the USA), you pay around 4-5 euros for a cappuccino and a pasta. If you go to a restaurant you spend around 20 euros, or 15 euros in a pizzeria. The variables are endless, but generally food in Italy is affordable as long as you stay away from tourist areas. As far as attractions are concerned, all in all the same thing applies, the more popular it is the more you pay, however there are many places to visit at very low costs or for free. For transport it is necessary to distinguish between high-speed trains and the rest of local transport. High-speed trains are convenient because they allow you to travel quickly between cities, but they are more expensive, while for local transport the prices are more acceptable, also for buses and metro. All in all, if I had to venture a prediction for these 3 topics I would say at least 120 euros per person per day. If I can add a suggestion, it is best to narrow down the area to visit because using public transport can waste a lot of time. If you need other information, just ask.@@karinabourne3465

I would like to visit sanremo, Milan, Verona, the Dolomites I love mountains, Genoa, Bologna, Florence, San Marino, Rome, Naples, Bari, Catania and Palermo and back to Milan to fly home. Is that possible in 2 weeks? Or too much
@danieledallolio1126
@danieledallolio1126 10 ай бұрын
@@karinabourne3465 I think for 2 weeks it's a bit too much. A shorter trip is better. For example, you could only go to the north or go from Florence to Sicily. If you only use public transport it is better to travel to the north because there are more possibilities. Consider that you can find interesting things everywhere. Unfortunately, abroad Italy is only known for a few places such as Rome, Venice, the Amalfi coast etc. I live in the area between Bologna and San Marino, little known by foreign tourists, but in every city or town there is a castle, a tower, ancient buildings etc. Above all, remember to try the local food wherever you go, the people are quite helpful even if English is not spoken by many people. Again if you need anything please ask, I will reply as soon as I can.

OMG this was great, so much info, just found your channel. Fantastic presenter and wonderful content. I am watching from the UK, searching for a little home in Italy. Travelled several areas and just back from Calabria, fell in love with Scila, if you have not been I recommend, along with Tropea. Sardinia is exquisite, the sea is incredible! My tip for first timers travelling by train, do not forget to authenticate your ticket by punching it in one of the little machines before you get on the train, or they can fine you a LOT! I had no idea about that until my last visit, I must have been very lucky on previous journeys. I even remember seeing the little machines and wondering what they were for. 😂

Sicily is off the toe of the boot. Palermo is the capital and therefore tourists, especially during June, July and August. We were there in May, so not quite as busy or hot as the summer months. My favorite town is Taormina, located about an hour from the airport in Catania.

I've actually lived in Italy twice. The first time doing graduate work. Tell people not to pick up pizza with their hands in a restaurant. The entire restaurant will immediately stop talking and look at you. I dated a Roman while I was there. We went out to dinner in only local places. He always, always, left a few coins onto of the tip being included. It was and is still customary.

Hi Alex, since I'm Italian, from Genova, I'd like to add some clarifications about our traditions: 1. Dress code: just in big cities like Rome, you will have problems with some dresses in churches but in most of them, no one will tell tou anything, like in Genoa. We are in general not so traditional how you say, maybe older people.. I'm 40 and I'm not that kind of polished person. 2. Public transportation : right, you can get where you what quite at any time, in Genova for exemple is true but in small villages on the coastline, forget it.. 3.Tipps:they are NOT included in the bill and no waiter get them. A waiter accept really enthusiasticly tipps but just if it's cash, cause he can take them for himself or he put them in a common moneybox and sometimes all the waiters devide them. DON'T GIVE TIPPS BY CREDIT CARD! We like to use cash and it's illigal now to say that someone is not allowed to pay cash or by card, since some months. We prefer cash, sometimes it happens that a pos is out of order and you can't pay or you have to wait for the internet connection. Then you have to think that barkeepers hate people who pay a coffee by card. We have high commitions and they loose 30% of the money.. But now they have to accept it. Maybe they ask you to spend at least 5 euros. And at least we don't like that our life is traced in everything we do. 4.Parmigiano: NEVER ask parmigiano for pasta with fish please! Parmigiano costs a lot, this is why they don't give you so much of them. But for sure no one has to serve you a dish already with parmigiano on top, it has to be always apart!! 5.Cappuccino: you can ask a cappuccino also in the afternoon until 5p.m,maybe with a piece of cake but NEVER during a meal! 😂😂 6.CIN CIN: you can cheers all yr friends together just one time, important is to have an eye contact with everyone, in particular you do this when in a table there are a lot of people. It's also ok if u just raise yr glass. 6. Drunken people:in the South there are actually people who don't like to drink. The real problem is in the north-est. In Trieste, Venice and in general in the 2 correspondent regions, they really drink a lot! From the morning! 😂😂I leaved in Trieste, I know it really well😂😂 So I hope that my comments will help someone to understand better how is my country😊 If u came back to Liguria, write me, I'll give u nice suggestions 😊

Great video, love them all! In regards to tipping, restaurants do not include a tip, ever. There is a cover fee (coperto) per person, even for kids, but it is not a tip. It is true that you don't have to tip, even if you got good service.

Sardinia is where we had our honeymoon after we married in Belagio! Sooo very well worth visiting!!! That’s where the Italians go for vacation is Sardinia. Sicily is not as clean and I don’t know ….. I’ve been to so many beautiful places in Italy that I didn’t enjoy Sicily as much. Maybe it was because I was there in August, and it was very hot and very muggy. The island of Ischia is where we are going in September. We went there last September and we loved it and it wasn’t crowded. I recommend you go there. Lots of thermal cooking in the hot sand and there’s thermal waters there as well. Almost burned my foot off last summer not realizing how hot the water was. Such excellent tips that you’re giving! And they are up-to-date. Are you sure you’re not Italian? I know Carrie‘s family is!! I have lots of family in Italy. I go so often and I so love my Italy.🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🥰🥰💋Baci, Baci & abbracci, Alex & Carrie!! Love u both! Miss your travels too! Glad you’re back!! Vita Maria. The. Sweet life!

If you rent a car, traveling and driving from the north to the south of Italy, that's ok...you will discover a lot of beautiful places that you couldn't if you travel by the public transport. But if you go in the biggest cities like Rome, Milan and Naples, it would better to park your car along the suburbs of those cities and to get in the city by the bus or subway. If you don't, it could be one of the the stressful moments of your Italian vacation. A little tip from a Roman guy.

Yup. There are a bunch of crazy drivers who follow no rhyme or reason when it comes to driving rules. I'm visiting Naples right now and you'd be putting your life in your hands if you even consider driving. The side streets are very narrow and often crowded, yet there are always drivers going both ways with motorcycles squeezed in between. I fear for my feet every time I walk on those streets, especially since very few sidewalks even exist in those streets.

Ahhhh GREAT video of my favourite country!! Your footage, cinematography and editing were 👌🏼👌🏼 The only thing to add is for travellers to be aware that certain restaurants have the “coperto”- the small fee (like a cover charge) that’s added onto the bill, basically paying for the laundering of the tablecloths. Not sure if that’s actually a myth- I’ve also heard it’s to pay for bread, oil, vinegar…but in any case, each person has to pay this fee.

As an Italian living in Italy this video made me laugh at times but it' s well done😀 Se say LA discoteca, LA trattoria, cause they are feminine. Once a tourist asked me if we say "il Duomo" or "la Duomo"😯 se say IL DUOMO, or LA CATTEDRALE😁 If you want to eat a simple pasta dish you can have "cacio e pepe" or "arrabbiata"(vegan). No additional grated cheese on seafood pasta in general. If you like cappuccino after dinner/lunch you can have a "caffè macchiato"(pron.Makkiato), which is a coffe with a little foamed milk. To enter a church I think It s enough to put on a pashmina scarf (which doesn t take a lot of room in a bag and you can use It if the air con Is freezing) on a woman s shoulders, at least this is what I heard at the entrance of Milan s Duomo.. I travelled a lot around Europe and these tips are useful anywhere...well, in northern europe they use less cash money. As for pickpockets keep precious belongings in a shoulder bag in front.blend in with the locals... Other beautiful and underrated towns are Turin, Naples (of course not the spanish blocks), well served by trains... What else...I don t stay in my country for high season vacation because it's not for my budget. If anyone needs info feel free to ask 😊

Going to Italy on June 20th and these are very helpful tips. Our itinerary will be to start in Rome for 3 nights then we take off to Sicily to attend a wedding. After a week in southern Sicily we will head back to the mainland and drive to Amalfi Coast. We will spend 4 nights in Castelemmare di Stabia, between Sorrento and Pompei. besides a boat trip to Positano and Amalfi, we don’t have anything else planned. Since we are a group of 12, I would like to have reservations for dinner and ideas for other things to do in the area. Thinking of a visit to Pompeii and Naples. Any recommendation and tips? Next stop is back to Rome to drop off most of the party so they return back to US. Then 4 of us will take the train to Florence for 4 nights. We booked a private car to drive us around Tuscany and visit some wineries. Would love to hear about favorite restaurants and off the beaten path things to do. Grazie!

Regarding the Google Maps issue, it happened to me as well in Le Marche region: the app was constantly sending me through dirty road "shortcuts" that turned out to be no shortcuts at all! A couple of times I had to go back because it was impossible to continue. I have the impression that it happens almost only in South Italy: never had issues in Florence or above. I don't know who is providing data to Google in those areas: maybe the municipalities didn't mark those roads as "dirty" and so the algorithm thinks they're just shorter, not busy, and thus faster.

For those foolish souls like me who do rent a car, beware the potential for driving fines. 3 years after we returned home from our Rome trip, I received a letter from a solicitors in UK who claimed I had driven up a city road I wasn't permitted to. The paperwork was a bit vague but certainly believable. Because of the massive delay - 3 years - I checked the regulations on the Roman driving website that said there were time limits and these had clearly been exceeded. I hadn't moved home so I was eminently locatable. I challenged it with the solicitors and asked for further information that time showed, they neither had nor could/would produce. In the end, after months of going backwards and forwards, they told me they had sent their paperwork back to their client, a debt collector in Rome! It remains unclear whether it was an infringement by me in Rome or whether it was a scam.

My fiancé and I are honeymooning in Italy. Originally we were going to do Italy and Greece however when researching and trying to plan the trip I didn't think 16 days would be enough do see both so we are just doing Italy for the Trip. Planning this is HARD to do. I am trying to see everything and I am wondering if I am putting too much into one trip. I was planning on us traveling from one end to the other. We want to see the main attractions but mostly want those hidden gems and secluded areas. I was thinking of dividing the trip up into what you mentioned, the north, south, center, and islands. Do you think 16 days will be enough? We are planning to do this a year after we get married so March 2025 was our planned honeymoon time.
