Just be very aware of other road users during this time as unfortunately this is the time of the year where fatal accidents occur. AND please don’t think you can drive from one coast to the other and back again in one day. You’ll be far too tired to even do anything nor have the time to do anything inbetween. So please break the journey up and enjoy what this country has to offer.

I admit to being biased but my personal number one place has to be the Bay of Islands. Mainly because I spent most of my childhood summer holidays there staying at my Aunties place in Russell. My second choice is the Kauaeranga River. Valleystarting in Thames and going up to the Pinicles. As a teenager my friends and I used to go tramping and hunting up the valley whenever we could. In my not so humble opinion. The most beautiful valley in New Zealand. And I have done three of the great walks but that valley is so beautiful.

Loved this. A very good short preview showing what's possible in 12 parts of the country. Great tips. One economical way to see the country is to travel by bus when possible and rent a car or van occasionally. That's how I enjoyed the country for seven weeks in 2018/2019. It's magnificent! The buses are super economical, and I saved much money by renting only as needed. I think taking a vehicle on the ferry is quite pricy, so at a minimum you could rent one on the North Island and then pick up another on the South Island.

Hi Alexander🙂 We just returned from a two month trip to NZ. We live in a little amazing ski town in BC Canada so we know about beautiful country. New Zealand was incredible. We spent five weeks in the south island and three in the north. Maybe it’s because we do live in a little town in the middle of nowhere we gravitated more to the south island although the north is absolutely stellar! You asked what stood out the most …. That’s a very difficult question. I’m not really going to be able to answer it because there are so many top of the world answers. I’m going to put this one out here though. We did an overnight on doubtful sound, and it was incredible. We walked part of the Routeburn track and it was incredible. We did a day trip out on Milford sound and it was incredible. Our trip on doubtful, was peaceful and spectacular and we’re so glad we did it so I guess that’s my answer. If I actually have to answer that very difficult question. I have one spot whoops no make that two that are my favourite favourite places I’ve ever seen in New Zealand and I’m not going to tell you where they are . Thanks buddy for a great KZbin channel. We appreciate it. Mike👍🙂

Kia ora Alex I appreciate the adrenaline junkie theme but as a mature road tripper I do feel you missed out some magnificent road trip ideas. Bay of Islands would be my starting point at the top idea - Russell & Waitangi / Paihia & of course Cape Reinga. Tamaki Drive in Auckland & around the bays’ - either northern or eastern - is also stunning on a summer’s day. Waiheke Island has some of the most amazing views across the Hauraki Gulf & the most incredible restaurants!!!! The other really unique road trip is the Forgotten Highway - through to Whangamōmona. Ohhh Tokoroa for the carvings to drive past and get some amazing pictures! Ruapehu in the Central Plateau is an amazing drive in winter or summer. Totally agree with your assessment of Hawkes Bay - Art Deco Festival is one of our best festivals!!!!!! Promenading is delightful! Such incredible community fun dancing in the streets late at night -ohh la la ;-) The East Coast drive is also something very magical / spiritual! State Highway 2 down to Wellington is an incredible drive with so many markets & gorgeous little towns to stop and see. There is no where in the South Island that is not incredible to drive. The road to & through the Kaikoura coast is now so different since the 2016 earthquake beyond words beautiful!!! Christchurch & Dunedin / Otago are both extraordinary areas to explore with so many incredible options! We had the most magnificent times exploring Akaroa on one of our last trips down there. And I would be absolutely remiss if I did not mention the Catlins area south of Dunedin. Purakaunui Falls I think are our most beautiful hidden waterfall. And the beautifully stunning area of Fox & Franz Josef - in fact the entire West Coast. Pancake Rocks is a must stop along with Hokitika & Lake Kaniere. We are truly blessed to live in such a beautiful and magnificent country. My top twelve would be: Cape Reinga, Waitangi / Paihia / Bay of Islands / Russell Exploring the cities - Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, & Dunedin Whangamōmona, Waitomo, Tokoroa, East Coast - Whakatane through to Hawkes Bay Taupo to Central Plateau. Simply all of the South Island - down one coast & up the other either via Arthurs Pass or Lewis Pass & stopping at Hanmer Springs for a few days!!! Haha Yes its taken us years to explore all of these areas

Rotoura (glow worm caves, Maori cultural activities/meal, soaking in a volcanic hot-tub), Milford Sound, Mt. Cook, I think I might try to find a nighttime activity to see the stars on the South Island. My friend and I are going next year but we are somewhat limited as we are not driving.

You didn't mention Takaka and the hills. The Southern Alps have corners like this too, so drive carefully and pull over for faster vehicles. I'm from Auckland but now live on the West Coast. Any time you are driving through the Buller Gorge you won't be disappointed for scenery. Lastly there is one section between Westport and Greymouth that is breathtaking. Just drive to the conditions please.

I feel very fortunate to call Aoteroa home and even more fortunate to have seen so much of it. Your vlog has me more curious about Rotorua. I haven't been there since I was a kid and would love to visit again. Stewart Island is also on my bucket list for next year! I highly recommend Cape Reinga, the top of the North. Seeing where the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet is quite remarkable. It's a very spiritual place. Also Bay of Islands is worth checking out!

@AlexanderAyling Жыл бұрын
Hello Giacomo, thanks for subscribing. If you come here in August, I'd only suggest it if you're here for winter sports, like skiing or snowboarding on the South Island. If you want to do more of the outdoors activity, I'd suggest waiting until the NZ summer (December-March). You can learn more here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6iUc4BmpZJ3d80

This was the video I was looking for. Can you do a video on camper and, trailers, RVs, etc. how Do we go about renting something, prices, do they have travel packages with maps, and suggestions on where to stay etc? How much would a typical vacay cost? Etc??? Thanks. Please tag me with answers. The biggest question I have, how pet friendly is it and how would I go about bring a small dog from the states?
@AlexanderAyling2 жыл бұрын
Hey Deb, I’ll make a video guide for camper, rv travel guide. Unfortunately you’ll have to leave your little dog in the states though. NZ is very strict about bringing animals into the country. I have a video about bringing our dog with us when we moved it. It was a nightmare

Good video bro. At lot of theses types of videos are usually inaccurate and have orators that clearly haven't even been here. A tip for pronouncing Taupo. Think of it as toe and paw put them together and you get pretty close to the correct pronunciation

Small correction. The Tongariro Crossing is not one of the Great Walks. Most of it is included in the Tongariro Northern Circuit, a 4 day walk which is a Great Walk. (And highly recommend)
