About the repetitive nature of cozy games-yes, they usually are repetitive in regards to the game loop (checking crops every day, tending to animals, etc.) but that loop needs to be entertaining enough and have variety IN IT in order for it to be exciting. Stardew has a ton of variety in its loop of what you can do each day so that you don’t get bored. I absolute agree with you Bubbles that sometimes being a boring repetitive game sucks.

I think the ambiance is also important. I could spend hours in Stardew just listening to the music, the little noises in the environment and relax. Stardew is very solid and well made with details like these. Many other games have the same daily loop and similar mechanism, but they feel clunky and are just not that well put together. Then I would find myself noticing the boring routine so much more.

Well said. I'm tired so I might have understood it wrong but it seems like they implied cozy games are boring or have to be in some type of way to be cosy. NO, give me story, interesting world + NPC, etc. Personally I also enjoy when not everything is cheery and happy all the time (threats (monsters, fighting etc) or maybe something darker in the plot at times or setting). I know people who dont want this and it's ok, cozy is subjective anyway. The critics about this game were valid.
@Vix_Vi4 күн бұрын
Yes! As someone who played Critter Cafe- it was boring because the repetitiveness wasn't varied enough and it wasn't rewarding. I love cafe/restaurant management games, but in most of them you have lots of stuff to unlock and buy that keep things interesting. There's lots of stuff to work towards. In Critter Cafe everything was unlocked automatically as you play. There's no currencies to obtain, nothing to save up for and work towards, and nothing to make you feel accomplished for completing the orders or the whole shift.

I agree with your feedback y'all 100% Repetitiveness can be chef's kiss but there's a way to go about it. All games relies on repetitiveness. But I need a reason as to why I am doing in my cozy game

sorry but chef rpg was great to play, it's a go explore, forage/hunt and run your restraunt game loop with minigames mixed in during the cooking portion. I didn't get any bugs but the dev is a great dude who is super receptive of community feedback so even if I did i'm sure it would have been fixed in the next patch. It's early access but all the componants are there it has 30 hours worth of gameplay idk i would rather spend 20 bucks on a cool solo dev game that is early access than a 2 hour movie that I might like or might hate.

Surprised no one mentioned Sunnyside up. It could have been huge but had an awful launch and hasn't really gotten fixed up. As for Bear and Breakfast, I disagree. It controls great on PC and once you unlock bus stops it makes getting around very easy. It does have a lot of dialogue but a lot of games in this genre can be dialogue heavy.
@MissBubbles4 күн бұрын
I skipped Sunnyside Up for personal reasons butwas excited for it last year. Then my friends played the beta (I think) and they told me how bad it was, and that was a few months before full release, so I knew it will be a mess and decided to skip the headache As for B&B, as I said, I love dialogue. But it has to be good dialogue. This dialogue was boring
@hufflepuffler25753 күн бұрын

@@hufflepuffler2575 it's unfortunate because I was looking forward to it. Just having a sprinkler to water your crops seemed great but watching people play the game it seemed super buggy. And while you can unlock bikes and stuff it did seem like there wasn't a whole lot to do. And the fact that you don't even start the game with a house is dumb. I'll probably pick it up on a big sale sometime next year
@Hungerformore83 күн бұрын
@@MissBubbles I mean that's fair. But truthfully most dialogue in the farming/life Sim genre is very boring and most people just click through it. I guess the problem was bear and breakfast had like ten dialogues to skip through. I liked the writing. I mean someone wrote all that dialogue and it fits the overall charm of the game. I just don't want people to not play it cause they see a content creator give a negative view.

I have such limited time to play games that I do extensive research before buying. That's why I never get bad games that I end up regretting. I tried Critter Cafe's demo and that didn't impress me but for me it was the serving mini games and clunky interactions, especially when picking up an order/serving. Luma Island is also not challenging, but still offers a lot.

Yeah, Bear & Breakfast was a major regret for me too. I'm not a major cozy gamer, but I have a couple I like returning to (Stardew, Graveyard Keeper, etc). And the concept of Bear & Breakfast seemed like it would be fun, but man, the menu system was a chore to try and work out. I hated it. And nothing I saw was enough for me to be willing to suffer through it in case it got better or I got used to it.

On repetiveness of cozy games: Yeah, most games have some element of repetition. That's called the gameplay loop. But if the loop is fun or rewarding, it doesn't feel so loop-like. I really like the gameplay loop of Palia. I put probably 100 hours into that game when it first launched, but then I ran out of content. I came back a year later (after it came to steam) and put another 30 in. The loop feels rewarding. And honestly, doesn't really feel repetitive, because I enjoy it. But there's so much to do that I never feel like I'm doing the same thing. Fishing, hunting, logging, chatting with NPCs, jumping puzzles, hotpot, decor, cooking, farming, quests, temples, crafting; if I got bored with one thing, i did something else. Stardew, Animal Crossing, and so many other games that I put hundreds of hours into are similar; there's a ton of variety and it all feels rewarding. So it doesn't feel boring. ~~~ I'm really sad about Garden Witch Life. I played the heck out of that game. Half because I did genuinely enjoy the gameplay loop itself and half because the dev team kept promising updates and fixes. they were very active and responsive in the discord and on steam discussions. but after 3 weeks of the devs blaming the publisher blaming the console for delaying the updates (yes, they straight up said that Steam/PC had to wait for Nintendo before updates could be released so that "no one would be left behind" or some nonsense). But they also said, in a very round about way, that the publisher just didn't have the time/labor to allocate to QA the hotfixes, and they were trying, but times are hard, and they're just a small indie company...... but maybe the fact that they had stacked about 7 game releases within the span of 2 months might have something to do with that? we finally got an update... and it didn't even fix most of the issues. And as far as I'm aware, they haven't gotten another one yet. It was released in September. Meanwhile, the publisher has kicked out 2 more games (Orange Season and Magical Bakery) and several more on the way. Meanwhile, none of the already released games are getting fixes for their game breaking bugs. and I find it disappointing and sad, because I genuinely enjoyed the game. but game breaking bugs like deleting game progress and disappearing tools is unacceptable and unique chests (that are not re-attainable) not having loot in them, for nearly a month after launch. but even still, several quests and achievements related to said quests, aren't working. There are items missing from the game (there are attainable pets whose food is not attainable). On top of the flat boring npcs (there real neat and very unique with strong personalities, in their respective quests and cutscenes; but on the day to day, there's no point in interacting with them. Once you max their relationship, there's no point in talking to them). On top of the lack of quest/story direction, broken quests, and very story-dependent yet extremely unintuitive tool upgrade system (despite having mining/smelting, having copper/iron/gold ore / ingots in the game, you cannot make or exchange bars for tools. You can only purchase them with gold; and they are EXPENSIVE. I spent the first whole season trying to figure out how/where to unlock the crafting recipes to make them. Turns out you can't. and you can't progress the story beyond the first like 4 quests without upgrading your tools. Cuz you need the upgraded pick to get into the mines. but I thought you needed to get into the mines to upgrade the pick. silly me). and the map might as well not exist. Also... why are we the only human in a world full of fun weird alien creatures???? A capybara? An axolotl-naga? A cactus??? But I have to be a human??? dumb. I liked the broom travel, and the characters (in their quest dialogs) were fun and interesting. The crop planting interactions were a really cool and unique feature; I REALLY liked that the garden was freeform and I could plant wherever I wanted, as close or far apart as I wanted; like a real garden. the portal system was neat, but under-utilized; after clearing each area, there's no reason to ever return; but the concept was neat and has a lot of potential.

I want to defend Bandle Tale a little. I totally get your reaction to it, but I quite liked the gameplay. I don’t mind fetch-quests when they involve a little puzzle-solving, which is really what crafting games are. I love checking things off a list. The skill tree does hit a major slowdown after a few hours, but the secret is to throw more parties than you’re prompted to by the story! I’m a sucker for the kind of silly environments in the game, and the writing was delightful. I also admit that the late game suffers from underdevelopment - a real shame that the team was disbanded shortly after the game’s release. I completed the game, and honestly, I will play again soon to scratch the itch of enjoyable checklist completion.

@@MissBubbles Yeah about a year ago a new dev team took over. And they went from RPG maker to Unity, so the whole game was remade. And it was nothing like what I bought. I think one of the fundamental drawbacks of the cosy farming/sim genre is that are such a timesink, so you really can only commit to a few at a time -- and the sheer amount of them that have been released lately means that, while there's a lot more choice, law of averages dictate that there are gonna be more of them that simply aren't up to snuff.

I completely agree on Critter Cafe, this game was hyped up by a KZbinr I like so I was super excited to play it. Played the demo on steam a couple of days before the release and let me tell you I actually cannot believe that they're charging money for this game. It looks and runs like a game you would find on girlsgogames or like a mobile game and has no substance to it whatsoever. It is the most disappointing game of the year for me as I usually love cozy games and anything related to running a cafe or simulation, but this is just downright bad. There is no cafe management other than doing short minigames, the critters do nothing in the cafe, no incentive to keep playing, no money system, no animation of the customers doing anything other than suddenly popping in and out of their chairs, no food or drinks in front of the customers when you give them their order, the day is ended suddenly and abruptly by a loading screen, the npc are just lifeless and the sound design of the characters talking is awful. I have seen a surprising amount of positive reviews on steam, but I have no idea how this can be bought and enjoyed by anyone to be honest. The critters themselves are cute, but there is nothing to this game it's completely lifeless and should be free to play in my opinion, would not recommend at all!

If you wanted a polished, finished game, perhaps you should wait to play them until they're out of their EA phase (since it's basically just a pay-to-play open beta at that point) - especially with a game that JUST released in EA and hasn't had much time for the devs to take in all the feedback and make significant changes. Ok, now I wanna know. You really don't like puzzles? To me there is nothing more cozy than just sitting there, taking my time figuring out how to solve a puzzle. Or do you just don't like timed puzzles? Because that would make sense to me.

I absolutely hate puzzles. Any kind of puzzle is not for me. It's preference of gameplay style.

HA HA HA HA HA Ha bubbz oriental valley is soo bad its hilarious. a cow gives you milk by working out!!🤣🤣🤣🤣no but in all seriousness yes cozy games are repetitive but you need to give players a reason to enjoy said repeativness. these games do not do that. its a shame too because some of these actually looked interesting.

please don't tell me what to do force me on what video games i should or shouldn't buy support because what may be a bad game to some that it may not be a bad game to someone else and what may be a good game to some may not be a good game to someone else, i also wanna say we may be true fact to some may not be a true fact to someone else being false and what may be false to some may not be false to someone else being true facts i think nothing is wrong us having our own difference opinions and point of view truths take on things i don't listen to anyone to tell me otherwise what movie, show and video game i should or shouldn't support because i want to do whatever i want that makes me happy follow my heart gut instincts think for myself have a mind of my own the world will be a boring place if we were all force to think the same like robots that's not a world some of us want to live in this is why i love prefer some that are open minded respectful even if we agree resonate or disagree don't resonate i don't like some that are close minded disrespectful force there truth down our throat be judgemental i'm right and your wrong ego mindset want us to think the same like everyone else i think that's not ok because i think it's ok for us to be free thinker think how we wanna think and do what we wanna do with our life as long we are not harming anyone that is innocent.

Came for the Chill Town shade, stayed for the genuinely thought-provoking comparisons to pretty people with nothing going on behind the eyes 😂👌 As for me? Mine's a smidge obscure: Mask of the Rose. It's this inexplicable mix of mystery solving meets dating sim in apocalyptic London but the mechanics are, frankly, an incomprehensible mess. Which is a shame because the lore and worldbuilding are FASCINATING and I was genuinely intrigued by the mystery. I even managed to woo my favorite character and just...nothing happens. There's like one line at the end about us maybe being a thing and - for a literal dating sim - that ain't satisfying.
