Happy Easter everyone:) Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend so far? We celebrated on Friday actually, my boys are off to the football instead today so it’s a very calm and quiet Sunday for me and the telly! So today we’re talking fashion rules to break. I'm so over rules for the sake of rules and actually in fashion I am very much in the club of "Where what you love, and what makes you feel great"! There's nothing more stylish than seeing a fellow woman truly comfortable in her own skin:) Has anyone else heard the one about ankle bracelets haha? And who else remembers Tammy Girl:) Do let me know your favourite fashion rules to break too, it's always lovely to hear from you all in the comments. Have a wonderful day everyone and thanks so much as always for all your support for my channel x

Happy Easter, Jess. The rule I break all the time is dress for your age. My taste on fashion didn't change much since from my 20's. I love simple, clean, form fitting clothes that flatters my shape and coloring. I just update the worn out pieces, and buy the new versions. When I looked at the old pictures, I was wearing fitted white Tshirt , light blue flare jeans in my 20's. I still wear them now in my 40's. The difference is that now days I buy higher quality ones, pay more attention to tailoring and details. I don't think we change to a totally different person when we age, no reason to blend in to a certain look of a certain group.

I loved the ankle bracelet story! Haha. As for shopping the men’s wear departments, better and cheaper yet…I shop my husbands closet. You can purchase what you want and tell him it’s for him. Then wear it all you want. Funny story…the other day my husband and I were out shopping, and he mentioned his jeans felt strange. When I stood back and looked I discovered he had on a pair of my jeans, so I guess the clothes sharing must go both ways in my marriage. Haha😂

Hahaha, I bet he did feel something wasn't quite right! I 'borrow' David's clothes all the time too, and socks and razors which drives him mad! Some of their stuff is just made better isn't it! Happy Easter Mia, hope you have a wonderful long weekend x

Love the jeans outfit with cream knit top, tan boots, belt, purse and olive jacket! Really nice color combo for fall!!! The jean length nicely shows off those beautiful tan boots and the coordinating tan accessories give a very classic and cohesive feel to the entire outfit. A really great base to accent with a number of various styles and colors of jackets or coats! I have yet to find that perfect shade of tan in size 5 ankle boots, but still looking! I am not a fan of pants puddling on the shoe or floor, for various reasons, but like when they gracefully skim the top of the foot. If I am wearing cool shoes, I definitely want to show off those puppies!

Jess because of you I have become obsessed with checking the label of an item for fabric composition before purchasing, saved me a lot of money 😂 I’m a big fan of the men’s department, especially for jackets as they are longer in the body and often better value for money. I think it’s safe to say … I’m definitely a rule breaker !!

Fabric composition is the first thing I look at, if it has any polyester or acrylic, etc., it’s a No.🙂

Haha well that’s a great habit to have my lovely, glad to hear you’ve found it helpful🙌🏻 I still find it astonishing some of the super high end brands use it, I saw a 3k dress recently made from 100% polyester!! I would definitely wear subtle-checked trousers like that with a patterned scarf, for example (in that case, a solid-color top). Some patterns are so subtle that a second one can be added easily. Stripes are also good for mixing with other styles of prints, as are dots. I agree about using different scales, but having colors in common. I like to play around with mixing patterns, if a mix is too much, it’s easy to spot right away. I love having some patterns in my wardrobe, they add a lot of interest. All-solid colors can look dull sometimes, so I often add a scarf, geometric patterns are especially trendy for scarves and more modern than most florals (but I wear those, too).

My grandmother was very concerned what the world was coming to when I got my ears pierced in the late 70’s - “people will think you’re a gypsy”. I’ve never met a gypsy in my life but they must have had terrible reps in the early 1900’s. But an ankle bracelet or toe ring would have meant I was a Hell’s Angel.

I love going to second hands stores here in Greece, I have a wide range of men’s shirts that I live in, I love the fact that they have a stiff collar which I usually wear up. Not sure if that’s still in fashions but I love it. I have also purchased a beautiful man’s cable knit roll neck that is a cashmere blend, great find. I remember the days when we were told not to mix silver and gold and shoes and bags had to match, thank goodness those days have gone. Thank you for all your research, I look forward to next Sunday.

Predominantly jeans (4 pairs that I truly love, so comfortable and massive pockets!!), blazers, jumpers and the occasional shirt. Hello my lovely, happy Easter 🐣 Hope you are having a wonderful long weekend with your loved ones:) I honestly think no matter how much you have to spend saving your pennies for those nicer fabrics like you’re doing is definitely the best way to shop. I would say I'm usually a small at Sezane but I prefer the medium in this style. A little more slouchy and able to get knits underneath if needed. Hope that helps lovely x
@danishpastry6137 Жыл бұрын
Love this! I'm obviously a rule breaker when it comes to style! I'm generally not someone who wears black, but I do wear black with navy - generally, it's accessories/ clothes that already have this combination. So I have a navy belt with patent black at the buckle, just to name one. As for matching bags, belts and shoes - I try not to! And if the colour matches, I prefer them not to have the same texture, or be slightly different shades of the same colour. I do like repeating colour, so I absolutely will have a scarf that has a colour that is repeated in shoes or bag. I don't shop the men's department generally as I'm petite, so I don't generally want something so oversized - the exceptions are t-shirts and belts. I do mix prints - a floral skirt/ trouser with a breton tee is my go to.

We got so much criticism from men for wearing sneakers during our commutes n the 80s, 90s, etc. But I had a mile’s walk twice a day, over rutted muddy wasteland, broken concrete and rubble, to go to and from my bus stop. Aside from comfort and safety (this walk was a major ankle-turner), why would I want to ruin my heeled leather pumps on rough ground like that? I’ve never seen a man wear high-heeled, uncomfortable shoes, why should we? That said, I love a 2-inch block heeled or wedge shoe the best, to make me feet a bit taller, but wear sneakers when I need to walk a lot or over difficult ground.

My favorite fashion rule to break is not wearing white in winter. Quite ridiculous really. I’m glad to see that falling away almost completely here. I think I would like to break not wearing minis after 40. My girlfriends all tell me I have gorgeous legs and I am quite trim and fit at 46. In fact, I personally believe I have never looked better. I still don’t want to be perceived as trying to look younger than I am. But who cares what people think? I’ve bought some short dresses. 😂
@kimberlyperrotis8962 Жыл бұрын
I’m 63 and wear “minis” a lot. My genetics gave me great legs and I show them off. Because I’m short, most minis are no shorter than four inches above the knee, which is a better compromise length than mid-thigh. Go for it, who cares about rules? I got criticized for wearing a mini skirt and a ponytail at age 25 by an out-of-touch older relative, just when these came into style in 1985. I was the first to wear a mini skirt to my huge corporate office, but within days everyone else was wearing theirs, too.🙂

I’ve always ignored all fashion rules. But, I don’t like navy and black together because it’s too dark for me; I don’t wear much black at all, especially near my too-pale face. White is “my black”, it suits me much better and doesn’t dull colors like black does.

I love your style & enjoy all your videos but there’s one more fashion “faux pas” (sorry, it needs to be said). Viewers need to know that like them or not, all things (yes, including those polyesters you find even in luxury brands) exist for a reason and are not always wrong. I have some nice silk shirts and linens that regrettably have been committed to working in (alone…at night) or as loungewear (again, ALONE in my house) because they almost instantly wrinkle horribly and look like pj’s (kind of pointless in my wardrobe). When meeting/presenting myself to many different people throughout the day & need to stay neat & polished, those FAAAAAR more resilient, non wrinkling polyesters, rayon blends & some cottons which have had food/coffee stains scrubbed off of them umpteen times are what I tend to reach for. And in that category, the best one of all (this is important)…..”FAUX” leather pants I always wear for working in the rain💡🤯🌟💫 (while I watch the security dude getting soaked in his cotton cargo pants). Who says those are only a “fashion” thing for looking chic (I learned it from baby moms). But yes, 100%…luxury does not always mean quality nor vice versa. I have a luxury wool items that are always getting holes & have to go to the taylor…some $6 cotton tees (with that EVER so important 5% spandex for holding their shape) that wear great for years…and a very inexpensive (rayon) set that always draws SOOO much attention/compliments which has been in my closet for 35 years.

Well of course if you feel that passionate about something as always I would say wear what you love:) I’m a little more cynical on the ‘why’ of polyester personally, and think the motive for brands is down to price. The fact that it doesn’t crease was just a great marketing ploy for them to deflect to!

@@FashionStyleEdit Even if that were true, I gotta watch my tongue. I also will NEEEEEVER splurge when I can save. I’ve never bought those things from them in my life, I thrift them. Saves me the hassle of needing to concern myself with how they run their business. And I don’t have enough hands to count the number of “happy coincidences” in my life so I’m not one to talk 💁♀️

No. 13 Fashion Rule to break. Letting white dress pants (or any dress pants for that matter) to drag on the floor just because it's trendy. It's a waste of money and looks ridiculous. I've seen so many influencers do this lately.

No one looks good with pants legs drag on the floor. Many influencers don't have good style, they care more about selling trendy clothes. I have no problem with people making a living selling, but wish more like Jess who is truly stylish , sharing knowledge how to dress well and recommend clothes of high quality and with good taste.

I don’t like any trend as impractical as that, I’ve ruined jeans in the past by one day’s city wear when they were too long, the hems just eroded away. Puddling trousers are really unflattering, too, especially on us shorter women.🙂
