Your page is such a gem for us who were the right age to enjoy all of the amazing toys the 80’s had to offer. Seeing the Power Lords and Beast Machines unlocked memories of toys that I completely forgot I’d owned

The Omnibots were originally available through the offer packed with the toys, and you needed 3 robot points. I didn’t have many Transformers toys, but luckily Kelloggs cereal later had the same offer, with robot points from the cereal boxes, and no added payment. Since we always had cereal, I got Camshaft and Overdrive from the mail away.

Really brings back some long forgotten memories. Nothing was like the 1980s when it comes to marketing toys to kids. Never came close to owning everything but I did have transformers, GIJoe, Voltron and he-man before my childhood ended and I got interested in girls.

I remember the magic of finally saving enough allowance (or begging mom/grandpa) and going to KMart to get that Transformer I had been yearning for. Getting home, opening the box, carefully applying the stickers. Great nostalgic memories! I remember looking for the Dinobot Swoop for months and finally finding one left at a store one day. I always wanted Voltron toys but spent most of my energy on G1 Transformers. Had a few Joes and Starwars figures.
@asdf9890Ай бұрын
I had the red Omnibot Transformer, and the silver one I think. My buddy was into MASK, those were really cool toys! I stuck with focusing my allowance on more Transformers though. I don’t remember some of these at all though. So lucky to have grown up in an awesome decade for kids, and then became a teen in the early 90s and experienced the whole Grunge phase! Great times! 😊

I had the beam blaster set for Masters of the Universe and it could be bought in most bigger toy stores here in Denmark and I got mine from the Local Toy store. Sadly it sucked so bad,that it ended on a shelf only a few days later,It did work though and it did exactly what it was supposed to do. But all Toys with batteries that kind of plays with themselves,was always bad Toys in my mind. Masters of the Universe was massive here in Denmark and we also had the final dinosaur stuff at the end of MOTU,but those things just felt out of place in the MOTU Universe. @@GENXPERIENCE They were in the plastic bags that you would have gotten if you mail ordered them. There were no tech specs or anything. Just the figure and weapons in a clear bag. You are right about the Omnibots never being updates by the mainline franchise. I know that at least one of the 3rd party companies has started to develop them. But what about the Power Dashers from the same catalogue, or the "Time Warrior" watch? One of my school friends had the Marshal toy from Bravestarr. It looked most impressive. You may be able to help me. There is a toy-line I can remember the look of, and what they did, but I cannot remember the name of. They were friction-engine boxes which had posts and ports over them, which came with sci-fi vehicle accessories which you could mix-n-match connect them onto the boxes, like what the Centurions could do. The packaging had Star Wars-style hangers on them. Would you know the name of them?

I was quite surprised I’ve got some of these. It must be something to do with being in the UK - it seems a lot of the stuff considered rare in the US was a lot more accessible here. Maybe the unsellable units were just sent over to go into discount bins. I mean those two Mask sets were incredibly lame in their conception, but I was given both of them. Scottish newsagents used to be full of sad, faded Star Wars playsets in creased and battered packaging as late as 1990! Not like that any more, alas. The excitement of discovering discontinued toys at the bottom of a giant basked is long gone.

I was kinda of surprised by Starduster being included since I have him, I just assumed all Joe fans would know. The cereal also came with a three or four part mini comic book about Starduster. The girl toys I can't comment on as I'm ignorant of them, never had any Masters of the Universe figures, I remember Power Lords, never had any; wasn't there a one-off, maybe a mini-series explaining the storyline? The cereal mail in for The Transformers was surprising as I have no memory of it. I do own Transformers but never are Cookie Crisp, Even as a kid, I thought cookies for breakfast ...ick.
@GENXPERIENCEАй бұрын
Thanks for writing. That is awesome you had Starduster. Like Jazz in Cookie Crisp, the Deep Cut is because both his existence in media, plus the way to get him was not something a casual fan would know about, but Joe Fans would. Sounds like many of these were new or interesting to you. Thanks for the comment.

I have asked this question of many vintage toy lovers and maybe you could help. Back in the 70s I had a purple wasp spaceship/robot. It had suction cups on its feet and a grappling hook came out of its mouth when you turned its eyes. It also had a bomb at dropped which they termed a bug bomb. I have been trying to find out what toy line this ship came from. It looked like a little bit the Galaxian graphic on the side of the video game. Nobody seems to know what this thing is. There were several spaceships to go along with it, one being a black spider. My mom bought me this from a discount store called treasure Island. I love this toy as a little girl and I would love to find a vintage one to buy. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

@therizinosaurus214Ай бұрын
@@GENXPERIENCE He was a well known character for sure even becoming the face of J.I. Joe for a time. His figure started as a Proof of Purchase figure and even had a phone number you had to call to get part of the qualifications to order the figure. Later versions would be direct to buy catalog through various promotions. He was package with several vehicles, though I don't recall if these were sold at stores. I could never find any. I was big J.I. Joe nut when i was a kid, and Slaughter was my favorite wrestler, so it was a like a match made in heaven... Sadly I never got my hands on any figure.

Original owner of one from 1987. Clip that attaches the top jaw is prone to wear over time. I refuse to push the tail to activate the tongue mechanism bc tongue is segmented with plastic straw material that’s also fragile, but the action feature is powerful enough to pull in any TCat or MOTU figure easily!
