My very first trip to Europe with a friend, 18 years old, I took all the wrong things, including heavy luggage, thin shoes, wrinkling clothes. I literally sent them home the first week, bought a small bag, rubber soled shoes, and learned to travel with two colors, wrinkle free light weight clothes and only carry-ons. I rarely deviate. I hate checking a bag and have found a way to make multiple permutations with the items I can compress into that small bag and personal bag. You have suggested some great items to take. Now I will wear my trench and walking shoes, just use my iPhone camera, simplify my hair, leave the dryer at home, etc. I have had Travel Pro and Tumi bags but am ready for a new hard-shell roller bag, black. We are going to Paris again next year. Your capsule list will be where I start. You are the best, Erin!😘

I learned the second bag trick from you years ago, and it is key. I could never do all carry-on until I got a larger second bag that would fit under the seat in front. One thing to remember is because of the 2 bag limit for carry-on, if you are carrying a purse it has to fit in the second bag for boarding.

For trips when I’m on the go, I pack a bedside cube. It has everything I need next to my bed eg lip balm, kindle, glasses etc. Saves so much time when I arrive in each location, I don’t have to spend fiddly minutes retrieving everything from everywhere. Also good in the morning when my room is going to be serviced, I just pop everything in there so they don’t’t get mixed up in any room servicing activities.

Thanks for these packing tips. I am a big fan of also bringing at least one scarf/wrap/Turkish towel/Pashmina: the versatility to tie solid color basics together, doubling as light blanket, taking up so little space in carryons. Also, jewelry is such a space-saving & are style-elevating items, too. 😊

Hi Erin, This video is perfect timing for me. I am going to Denmark and Sweden next month. I will take all of your tips to heart. Two years ago my husband and I took a three week trip to Italy. It was our first European Vacation without the kids since we had been married and we wanted to be a little more dressed up, but also do a lot of hiking. We overpacked so much and regretted it almost everyday. We stayed mostly in "Old City" centers so we had to leave our car away from our apartments. We often stayed on 5th or 6th floors so that meant we were constantly rooting through our luggage in the car lot to try to bring just essentials. My one additional tip is to pack your toiletries, tech and non clothing items before your clothing. It is amazing how much clothing you can cram in a bag, but then not have room for your other essentials. It just saves time and headaches when you are packing.

Really helpful travel tips Erin! I used to be an over packer but a few years ago, after struggling with mid sized luggage on trains on Europe, we decided to go carryon only, and after two successful trips with that system, I can attest that it’s worth it! Much less hassle, I had enough for a three week trip to several different cities just by hand washing some tops and undies along the way, three pairs of shoes is perfect, and travel size toiletries including bar soaps were great. I also pack a small backpack that qualifies as a personal item (and I pack my purse inside) and those two pieces held everything. It’s very freeing to plan your wardrobe and live with that for your trip. Scarves and accessories help change things up. Lastly, I’ve learned to pack a cashmere cardigan and scarf to layer with when you need some extra warmth. I travelled on airlines that have carry on dimensions but no weight restrictions, and I’m not sure what I’d do if they weighed my bags. That’s another challenge!

We went to Italy for 2 weeks in February with lots of train rides from city to city. ITA has a smaller carry-on size regulation, so I packed for that trip in a tiny carry-on and one of those backpacks that zips open like a suitcase. Compression bags helped. Leaving Friday for the Abacos in Bahamas. That trip will be a small bag with swim suits, coverups, a big floppy hat and a couple of sundresses. Easy Peasy.

Great tips, Erin!! I packed a carry on for a week in Italy last year and I learned a lot about what to bring/not to bring next time! My biggest wins were a white linen button down from Quince, and a navy, polyester t-back, knee length dress that looks amazing on me, didn't show dirt, and was able to be rinsed out and would dry. One of the worst was actually a cream linen dress which looked grungy after I wore it once and (unlike the Quince blouse), still looked like hell after being washed in the sink (it needed an iron). My biggest dilemma is what to do with my hair next time: After I wear a hat, it looks AWFUL; to the point, last year, that I started wearing my hat back on my head (not shielding my face - Eek !) so I wouldn't feel hideous when I took my hat off! I will definitely keep your tips in mind for my next trip! Happy to see you posting a video! I was just thinking the other day that of the several fashion influences I watch, you have been THE MOST helpful in actually helping me to understand (like the lightbulb came on!) HOW to put a wardrobe together. Thank you!! ♥

I want to share a bad experience with you guys. My husband and I took a tour to Egypt/Dubai/Abu-Dhabi this year (18 days) and we packed EVERYTHING in our check-in luggages; when we arrived in Cairo my 2 suitcases didn’t arrive, they were lost for 7 days. The stress and the frustration that we experienced were immense especially because we didn’t speak the language. We had to buy pretty much everything including a carry on luggage which was an extra expense. We travelled with that carry on luggage for those 7 days which made me realized that I always over pack and that I can travel with few pieces and mix & match them to get more outfits. From now on for long trips, I am going to pack 3 outfits and my essentials in a carry on just in case my check-in luggage is lost again.

I have heard of a tip that you pack a small, packing cube of at least one full outfit and put it in your husband’s luggage and he does the same in yours so that if one of the bags gets lost you still have a few things if for instance, his bag shows up and yours didn’t.😊

Thank you so much for not making us feel a failure because we don't pack instagrammable carry on cases with everything in a matching beige pouch or packing cube. Absolutely crucial to fill all the little crevices with bits and pieces. I do struggle with bringing my hanging toiletry bag and have tried other smaller pouches but it lies flat on top of all my other stuff and I have all toiletries in one place, I'll keep experimenting though. Thank you for a great vlog, the one that you did a few years ago was invaluable too. x

The only colours I have are integrated into the 3 flannels and denim jackets that I pack as layering pieces. I wear my platform converse on travel days and pack sliders, slip on vans and ankle boots for when I want to dress up a bit. I also take 2 hoodies and a raincoat, since I mostly travel around the UK (the country I live in) I also decant all of my haircare and body care into silicone toiletry bottles and decant my skincare into little 50ml plastic travel size set. 2 pump bottles and 2 spray bottles, I found them through TikTok

Such good advice! I saw your post just before my trip to Italy and used the same Beis bag as my second bag for carry on. Also, I completely agree on trying on outfits before you pack. There is nothing worse than buying a new dress, swimsuit, etc. and having it look horrible on while you’re already on your trip. Trying clothes on early can allow you to pivot before you leave.

Walking sneakers, shoes for the ship, and black pointy heeled flats for 2 fancy events. The older I get ( now 62 ) the easier I want my hair style. Compression bags are a must and so is an AirTag, which comes in handy when an Intl flight says your bag is too heavy. My goal is to leave more room for purchases!

As someone who travels a lot these are some great tips. I especially agree with the fact you need to use every bit of space carefully. Stuff your shoes with socks if you can. I live in Europe and one thing I always see are tourists who don’t understand the overhead locker space issues on inter Europe flights. This is very different to long haul flying. You want to stand in the queue early and get on that flight as early as possible. Airlines like Lufthansa are a true flight for space. I also see people book discount carriers for these short flights and you have no hope of ever being allowed two pieces of luggage onboard an airline like east jet. Do your research in advance and book accordingly!!

One big lesson I learned is try on all your outfits before you pack them. Things might look good together on your bed but not on. Or things that looked great last year might you might not love as much. I like to shop on vacation so I bring a packable tote to hold things I buy. On the way home I check my suitcase and carry on the tote. The other thing I always travel with is a luggage scale especially to Europe. So many of those airlines have strict weight limits.

Great suggestions! Many I use, but I finally had to give on hair tools for European vacations. We stay at high end hotels, and I have learned none of them have a high end hairdryer. NONE! I only wash my hair every 3 - 4 days, so on a European trip a wash and dry will be needed. Besides the hairdryers in hotels being cheap, and you will fry your hair using it, the hotels in Europe must have some rule on the power switch not just being turn on and it goes. You actually have to hold the button in the on position. This is nearly impossible when you are round brushing your blowout. I have even had my husband hold the dryer! Sooo, last time in Italy I bought a lightweight high end dryer that is now a must in my suitcase. 😊

I used to feel that anxiety you referred to in the beginning of this vid, then we had a 3-week trip to Europe ("luxury" supposedly) - where our luggage NEVER showed up. Never. Not. One. Day. We were completely luggage-less every moment of every day for 3 weeks. It affected me in ways I never expected; basically I was put-out the whole time. Yes, of course I bought some things, but footwear is so important if you're walking miles every day - not the time to break in new shoes or try out new brands. I wore the same pair of sneakers every shod moment. Yes, dinners and nights on the town too. And skincare, I'm seroius about that, and it was hard to purchase the right things in other languages. For the first part, I washed underwear and spent the night on the floor in the bathroom with a hair dryer (some of those are attached to the wall). I was mad; had a slow burn going the whole trip. It was awful, but every experience has a lesson - now I carry on my essentials and, if my luggage makes it, great, if not, at least I have what I need in skin and hair care and a few neutral basics to switch out. So, on behalf of those who've never had to learn the hard way, thank you for the tips, Erin. We all can benefit from new ones!

Hi Erin, I loved the Beis mini Weekender bag, so I ordered it in the black and white stripe. I received it today, and while I still love the style, I find it to be very heavy. I'm a petite woman, so I just wondered what your thoughts are. Thank you! 🥰
@BusbeeStyle5 ай бұрын
It is heavy, which is why I really only kept it strapped onto my roller bag for ease of movement! Without that strap, it would be a tough one to use. Thanks for watching, Trisha. xo

I L-O-V-E planning out a trip. Every item thoughtfully selected for impact and efficiency. Then there's my husband who found a $4 shirt at Goodwill the day before we left for a week at a Mexico resort, which he added to his 1 pair of slacks (for dinner), 3 pairs of shorts, 4 shirts, underwear, flip flops and athletic shoes and he's done. Where's the fun in that!? 🙂

I’ve heard about issues regarding 21” or 22” carryons for Europe, but I think it depends on the airline. For example, I believe Delta says 22” is allowed for carryon. I hope so!

How do you use the large BEIS carry on for international travel? They usually limit the length of the suitcase to 20” vs. 22” in the US.
@BusbeeStyle5 ай бұрын
I’ve literally never had an issue with measuring a suitcase. I just roll it on by. If you have a 3rd bag they will stop you, though.

Good timing! Two travel questions as I’m watching the video came to mind. 1. I’m going with family of 4 to Greece for 3 weeks, 4 hotels, so far first 12 nights those 2 hotels do not have laundry facility at the hotel for guests to use. Any advice as with the heat and sweating it’s harder to rewear tops, definitely cannot rewear athletic wear and undergarments. How do I avoid packing 3x what I would if I had laundry capability? 2. Why is a good daytime show for max comfort, breathability, but also not tourist looking with mesh athletic running shoes? Thanks! Been using your inspo videos to pickup some less costly but on trend pieces to enjoy being more fashionable and updated on vacation.
@mmemiel97955 ай бұрын
Hello, I would recommend clothing from natural fibers like linnen (best for the heat) and cotton. They reduce sweating compared to artificial fibers and you can hang them out in the fresh air, so you don't need to wash after each wear. And your underwear can be washed by hand and will dry quickly in the heat.
@BusbeeStyle5 ай бұрын
Packing fabrics that dry FAST (Lightweight, thinner, breathable) will be super helpful. You can wash by hand in the sink - just don't plan on wearing that item the next day in case it's not quite dry yet. But a hair dryer can help speed up drying in a pinch. Hi Erin I just wonder dont you have shoe bags? You put the shoes without protection in your luggage?
@BusbeeStyle5 ай бұрын
You can absolutely use a shoe bag... I don't so that I can easily fit them into tighter spaces separately. I put them in with the soles up, away from my clothes. In a shoe bag you just have less flexibility in where to pack them. Thanks for watching. xo

My question is there's a weight limit usually on the carry on bag and size limitations. Would have been nice to know more specifics on that. Also liquid amounts depending on where you travel. Alot of airports restrict the amount of liquids and toiletries type items
@BusbeeStyle5 ай бұрын
While there can be weight restrictions in certain countries, I haven't ever been asked to weigh my bag...except on small private planes where we knew the restrictions before leaving home and the luggage requirements were very clear. There is a smaller sized carry-on in this luggage set as well, but this larger carry-on meets the TSA requirements for size. When you're traveling internationally, definitely check your specific airline's restrictions for everything first! xo

Yes, how do you pack only carry-on, with weight limits, and taking necessary toiletries, adhering to the Liquid rule. Even mascara counts as a liquid

I had to laugh at your advice to forget about your hair. I’m currently in an airbnb that had no products. I went to the drugstore and bought some shampoo. It’s in the mid-80s and very humid here every day. I feel like my hair looks like a nightmare but I don’t care that much. I just had lunch with some cousins who live here and they all told me how GREAT my hair looks. Hilarious. I’m going with the natural look from now on.

I tried for the start of my last trip but the humidity was next level... There was NO point in putting in any effort there and I just had to be okay with it. Love the compliments from your cousins! That is great and now you can confidently let your hair do its thing!! xo

How do you approach the challenge of weight restrictions if luggage in Europe?
@BusbeeStyle5 ай бұрын
While there can be weight restrictions in certain countries, I haven't ever been asked to weigh my bag...except on small private planes where we knew the restrictions before leaving home and the luggage requirements were very clear. This was a huge packing challenge for me when we traveled to South Africa last spring! It can definitely happen though, which would result in having to check your carry-on bag for that leg of your trip. xo

Hi, I’m new here. Going to Scotland mid August. I’m a self-professed over packer! I’ll be using your tips to try to minimize some but if I pack my case full, I won’t have space to bring home any purchases and I know I want to bring back gifts for my grandkids, etc. I know it would cost quite a bit to have these items shipped home. Suggestions?
@BusbeeStyle5 ай бұрын
How exciting! You can bring a packable duffle bag, use the duffle as your carry-on when you return home, and check your carry-on suitcase with your extra items in it. It's generally less of an issue to check the bag coming back home. I've also not packed a duffle a time or two and just purchased one on vacation as well. Here's an idea of a packable duffle bag that would take up a small space in your bag but hold enough to work great! rstyle.me/+3xm8t4VxVIqIvl4rb47avw

I'm going to Botswana in less than 3 weeks! 🐘Super excited but also stressed about packing. We have a limit of 26 lbs (12 kg), so that makes it a bit of a challenge, but we will manage 😆Have rewatched your Africa video several times. I wondered about bringing whites as a lot of guides mention that it's a bad idea. Did you have any issues with suncreen stains etc?
@BusbeeStyle5 ай бұрын
I hope that video is helpful for you as you prepare for your trip! The weight limit is definitely a challenge... If you do wear white, I'd opt for a light layer over it still. I think I wore more creams/tans and wore a jacket over any white tops that I did pack. I didn't have any staining issues though. Have an AMAZING trip!! xo

Pick a color story and mix/match your pieces. Add in a "Hiking Outfit" or two...Personally I'd go with something along these lines: Top | rstyle.me/+7dA9bhhelhWun1VTcGuFuQ Pants | rstyle.me/+HDdjDwqecOqbIF6qcsBmkQ or rstyle.me/+FmhYM5dk2OhBxkwasAwS0w or rstyle.me/+2Cf2srtiVXXABtAvS7coHg or Shorts (depending on weather) | rstyle.me/+6nzrUmftLE0LnkyxPD_eWw
