I’m over 65 and don’t wear all those same style of pieces, but the concept is brilliant and can be tailored to individual style. As other viewers mentioned, I’d probably wear evening pieces first. Thank you for these great tips!
@blueoctopus63 жыл бұрын
I pack in a similar way but it does get boring using the same colour palette after a while. Also wear the bottoms for night time first when they are fresh and carry them over to the next day, rather than wearing all day. It feels dresser that way. Couldn't imagine going out for the evening in something I'd already worn all day.

I totally agree for the warmer weather. I wear black in fall winter but too harsh in bright sunlight. I prefer a more French inspired look with navy and striped tops. Check out Marie Ann Lacoure’s French videos.
@irairod51602 жыл бұрын
Louisa, I feel the same! The beauty of using navy as a base is that it goes so well with OTHER shades of blue, it's almost impossible to find a hue that won't pair with it. With black, unless one wants to make a collection of "shades or gray", it's not as easy. My travel capsule usually has navy and lighter/brighter shades or blue, white and flax, and one or two accents, depending on location and weather. Sometimes I pack pops of red, sometimes is fuchsia or teal...but even if I limit it to "shades of blue" and "shades of white" I feel plenty satisfied in its variety in a way "black and white" doesn't. Also, I leave room to buy one locally-produced accessory wherever I go---a necklace or big earrings in a bright color, local leather or cork goods, wooden or brass bracelets, a colorful scarf or woven clutch...that way they inject excitement to my travel outfits AND become a souvenir of that particular trip once I return home. (So much better than magnets!)
@cynthiawhite83232 жыл бұрын
Yes, I use navy blue or a deep purple red color as my matching/combination color with black.
@melissac28842 жыл бұрын
Add me to the Navy based capsule packing. Not only does it pair well with my favorite accent color - magenta - it also pairs well with black - in fact my Tumi backpack and my travel sun hat both are two-toned with a hint of black since there are times a black sundress or pants is desirable. I use scarves to add color in a carry-on friendly way - I have a print and a solid whisper light silk/cashmere rectangle scarf that can be tied as a shawl or just thrown on to add a little color and zip to a monochromatic wardrobe.

CJ: Love these simple ideas to maximize a week of outfits with a carryon - very doable for touring or casual trip from spring to fall. I do this for business, as well. Even winter is easy with more layers. Traveling once or twice every month, I've found the older I get, the more I want to do carryon only. Why? Lost and delayed baggage can absolutely ruin a business trip and my budget when I need to chase down business attire for an early morning meeting. Not fun (and sometimes not even possible, depending on where I happen to be.) The small hassle of lifting my bag into an overhead is more than worth the confidence that everything I need for my trip is with me. If I have a tight window to get to a meeting or activity, the benefit is that I can head straight for a taxi or Uber, bypassing the luggage carousel. More important: I have learned that tourism traveling in Europe and other international destinations requires smaller carryon bags (regional planes) and ease of movement once on the ground (trains that have two minute stops which makes wrestling large bags foolish, buses with limited storage and short stops.) Less baggage also lowers my international travel costs significantly -- since you are charged by the size and number of bags for regional planes, taxis, shuttles. Once I realized that the odds of a bag being lost or delayed is 1 in 250 -- and airlines don't consider a bag truly 'lost' until it's been missing for 21 days - the stress of worrying about whether my luggage would make it on quick layovers inspired me to be a lifetime Team Carryon member. There is good news. 97% of delayed luggage is found within 48 hours. The bad news is, unless you are home or planning to stay in one spot until your luggage is found, purchasing clothing and toiletries is going to have to be added to your itinerary and you won't see your bag again until you're back at the airport heading home. If I'm on a two or three day trip, this means not only do I have to buy clothing (and a suitcase to ship it home) but I won't be able to charge the airline for any or all of those costs, depending on the carrier. Cruise ship trips makes this even more problematic, as you're in a different location every day, sometimes in areas that make it unlikely the airline will deliver your luggage to you. Having seen meltdowns on so many trips and social media over delayed and lost luggage, I'm not willing to travel with what I can't carry on the plane or lift onto a train or bus. Ultimately, we all get to decide what our comfort level is for travel and bringing our necessities with us. By being creative and utilizing the tips of mixing and matching a travel capsule wardrobe can easily shift outfits from casual to evening. For me, the peace that comes from traveling with carryon luggage is worth the extra planning!
@luluhaynes13882 жыл бұрын
On one trip, I actually got back my lost checked luggage back - next day!!! :-) Nowadays, I never check luggage anymore. It helps that my only makeup is sunscreen and ChapStick. Also, I've switched from fashionista outfits to comfy, comfy, comfy. I want to RELAX during my travels - not be bothered with trying for cute looks. I'd rather pack light - and do full-blown cute looks when I'm home with all my accessories and fancy outfits... Also, I try not to lug laptop. And I LOVE the planning part. I plan and practice packing weeks in advance [I don't travel much now]. tfs!

Don’t ever feel like you’re putting someone out by asking for help putting your bag in the overhead. Flight attendants are trained to do that and being able to lift up to 45-50 pounds overhead is part of the training/hiring.

I think your trips are much higher end than mine have been. That being said, I usually pack for 1 week no matter how long the trip is. I've done a few 3-week trips on 1 week's worth of carry-on. Although it does depend on the airline's carry-on limit (7-10kg). 3-4 bottoms and 6-7 tops, walking shoes/sandals, nicer heels and maybe thongs (flip flops). A good jacket/coat, backpack and maybe a smaller bag depending on the type of trip. Depends on where you're going, time of year and what you're gonna be doing so it really comes down to that. I do like how she put a bunch of stuff into a big tote for the plane. And a few choice pieces of jewellery - just keep to basics on a trip and the biggest piece of advice I could give about travel packing is take what you're prepared to lose. All that old shitty stuff that's wearing out, pack that. Because if it gets lost or stolen, it doesn't matter. It happened to me. That's how I learned to travel light.

I am planning a month to six week trip to England and I am having fits about thinking about what I can do to not overdo it. What you packed is good but I am not you. I would not wear what you wear. I know that on a trip what you pack and how heavy it is is what you end up carrying around. Keeping it simple is key. How many pants and how many tops and how many sweaters/jackets/coats to take? England is a mixed bag of weather even in June. You have some great suggestions and I love that mirror. I always struggle in hotel rooms with makeup mirrors.

I’m from Australia and did a European trip which included England for around five weeks a couple of years ago. From memory I took a pair of runners, pair of Birkenstock’s , flat sandals and mid heeled mules which covered all bases. 2 pjs, so I could interchange. About 10 pairs of underwear and a light hooded showerproof jacket. About six t shirts, six pants( jeans and navy and black plants, darker colours are better. 3 long sleeve tops and a couple of hoodies and light cardigans. Take about three singlets to layer. I used space bags which kept things neat and easy to get to and also used one for dirty clothing for the trip home. I found a toiletry bag that hangs on the bathroom door a godsend, packed with essentials made for a quick start in the morning. Coming from Victoria we went in June and I found the weather pretty good about 18-22 Celsius with a bit of rain, I was never cold. Put everything out you want to wear and then take some away. Hope this helps😁🇦🇺. Obviously this was checked in luggage, I’m afraid I’m a bit of an over packer and nowhere near as organised as the lady in this video🥴

Loved your sage wisdom and explanation on how you arrived at your decisions! Really helped seeing each option too! I have a faux leather blazer and carry it for the same reason you trust your leather pants. Which I never thought about until you connected the dots-which are easily cleanable and wipeable. 🤣 So many have suggested to try your line and I haven't yet made the plunge. What is the first item you know will make me come back for more? PS. YOU ARE IN DEED A PACKING GENIUS. Seriously, one tote, one carry on, tata to the luggage carrousel,💥mind blown.

Thank you so much for this video! I have gone over it several times as I am planning for an upcoming trip. Can you please share the brand of your short black eyelet dress? I know it's probably not available in a store anymore, but I'm hoping to find a resale version of it. Thank you !!!!

Also don’t you have to put the lotions and the hand sanitizer in the 1 quart bag? How can you have the liquids in different bags?

Thanks for tips, I always overpack! Only thing I will say is, small size clothes pack in smaller space than bigger sizes like me, size 12. Definitely some take away tips

I'm a whopping plus size 2XL / 22 - just imagine how much I have to compress into my bag (personal Item only). I've learned to wear/pack SUPER versatile clothes on travel / departure day. Tip: Wash nylon undies in sink or evening shower and drip dry overnight.

Wonderful, informative video with great ideas and lots of style! What about underwear? What about hair? Nails? ie: curling iron, shampoo & conditioner, brushes, nail polish & remover & implements? I love the mirror & hope it’s breakable! Also, chargers, extension cords & a night light? These are all items I’ve found I must have with me.

I enjoyed your tips on how to make a few pieces mix to create a wardrobe for a week and many occasions. I do wonder what size you wear and how it would work for a 6' 1" woman size 14 with size 13 shoes and for cold weather,. such as a ski resort.

Great video and tips. Definitely will rethink my packing for times I only have a carry on case. But, I have to also include; a travel hairdryer ( not all hotels provide one) tongs, hairbrush, travel adaptor, phone charger, PJ''s and dressing gown/cover up, swimsuit, underwear, beach towel, cleanser, moisturiser, deodorant, etc. That's when things get really tricky. I buy some things in the country I'm travelling to such as sun lotion, shampoo to save space. Think I'll just stay in the Uk with the car, it's easier haha!

Yes, it was great, but she missed pj’s and underwear, including socks. Or maybe I missed when she covered those items.

Well I have to assume she packed toiletries and underwear, she was just focusing on the outfits.

To travel lighter, here’s how I nixed the need for the following: a travel hairdryer - cut my hair SUPER short. Only need to towel and air dry. Tongs/curling iron - n/a I have curly hair. But to get texture or curls, I would English braid damp long hair or pin-curl damp or dry long hair overnight. (I worked in my granny's beauty salon) Hairbrush - I cut my long curly hair SUPER short - I now finger comb, Or use 2-ended afro pick/comb. travel adapter - I leave devices needing electricity at home, and only use battery operated on trips. phone charger - my charger is tiny - it packs into snack baggie. PJ''s - on trips, I like to sleep in sleeveless tunic. OR oversize Tee shirt or Tee & baggy shorts. On final night, I could wear cotton sundress. If cold, I also wear my fave cotton knit full-zip cardigan hoodie w ith pockets. More stylish than hooded sweathirt - and easy to tie on waist.... dressing gown - I found a knee-length, button-down silk sleep shirt. It doubles as robe, shirt, shirtdress, coverup, and duster! (Winter Silks.com - but not available anymore from them). cover up - I use sarongs and/or T’s for pool and/or a cotton sundress. Sarongs are most versatile! Swimsuit - I now wear 2-pieces. Tankini camisole top with swim bike/board shorts. Very versatile separates. Underwear - for bra (44C), I wear a combo camisole/bra- many colors! [from Roamans .com or WomanWithin .com]. For panties, I use nylon and wash & dry overnight. I always bring pantiliners, too. For sox, I wear or pack 1 pair silk crew socks and 1 pair merino wool no-see-um anklets. Either can be worn for sleeping, too! For cold, I wear both. beach towel - I use the hotel’s towel or my cotton sarong. I’m looking into a lightweight camping towel - but not sure I really need to pack a towel... cleanser - my trips are so short, I just use the hotel’s complimentary soap. Moisturizer - I use low SPF sunscreen. For outdoors I add SPF50 sunblock. I’m mixed/black and trying to control a gazillion freckles. Deodorant - I found effective disposable deodorant towelettes that pack flat!. They’re huge - I tear one in half and use second half for next day. etc. - for toothbrush/paste - use hotel’s complimentary toothbrush. Or use travel toothbrush. Or use Brush-up towelettes in emergency - they pack flat! For paste, I use old, rolled up travel tube from dentist’s handouts - not full-size tube, not new tube. Fyi, I also travel with battery-operated baby monitor for it’s white noise generator option PLUS I wear ear plugs. For sleep mask - I use a satin sleep mask OR in-a-pinch a cotton bandana - which is MOST versatile... tie it anywhere (wrist, neck, headband, handle) Travel iron - I pack an empty travel-size spray bottle and fill it on arrival with water. Then lightly spritz any wrinkles. They fall out in seconds - or minutes, if stubborn! I have an ALWAYS t-shirt rule: I ALWAYS pack 1 oversize cotton graphic v-neck tee-shirt. It’s long enough to wear out or as PJs. In a pinch, it could be worn inside-out to make it ‘solid’ for even more days.

I love those tips. I have travelled a lot with a carry on and love it. No waiting at the luggage band, no lost luggage. The toiletries was a problem, but now I have shampoo and balsam bar, body lotion bar, parfume bar, and so on 😆 I will definately use these tips next time I travel but with another color scheme.. I look awful in black.. And there will be plenty of room to my outdoor gear wear. And I will use a small rucksack instead of a tote.. the theme of the holiday determines the accessories 😉

I'm flying to the UK in 3 weeks I'd like to know if a carry-on and a backpack would be allowed. Would that not be regarded as 2 pieces of luggage?
@ninaarntzen2 жыл бұрын
@@jen9774 It depends on the airlines rules. I could bring a perse added to my carry on. But I brought a small folding backpack instead. It fit under the seat in front of me. Good to have reading material, chargers and crossword puzzles easily accessible
@gill15452 жыл бұрын
@@jen9774 when travelling out of the UK, if you're economy it will most likely be counted as 2. Try and fit your backpack into your carry-on if you can, you can take it out as soon as you're through customs to make life easier on the flight x
